Chapter 58 - Fifty Seven: Assassins

The man walked to Becca's driver's seat window and pulled out a gun, pointing it directly at her.

On seeing the gun, Becca's face paled and became as white as paper, with all the color draining from it. Her pulse throbbed in her temples and her heart drummed hard in her chest. Her eyes darted from the man's face to the gun in his hand as she choked down a sob, still visible trembling on her seat.

It wasn't the first time she had seen a gun but it was definitely the first time it had ever been pointed at her.

Becca's hands tightened on the steering wheel and her eyes never leaving the gunman in front of her.

She flinched when she saw the man's finger move to the trigger and franticly began shaking her head, her eyes pleading the man not to pull it.

" No, please don't. Please don't kill me. If it is money you want, then fine. I have a lot of it in my purse, please don't pull the trigger." Becca begged, her lips trembling violently with every word that left it. Her breathing uneven and harsh.

She didn't want to die, not like this, in the hands of a man she knew absolutely nothing about and definitely not this soon.

Seeing as her words didn't waver the man's intentions and he was still firmly holding the gun to her face, Becca began silently praying for a miracle. Though she knew it was most likely not to happen, she still kept asking God for a way out.

What else could she do? She was a defenseless woman who was being a attacked on the road at night, the best and only thing to do was hope for the best.

Hot tears began streaming down Becca's face as she kept staring at the gun being pointed at her. Despite there being a little ray of hope inside her, Becca was aware of the seriousness of the situation and knew in a few seconds she would most likely be dead. Just another murder case for the police to investigate on and soon going to be forgotten by everyone.

But just as the man's finger curled around the trigger, ready to pull it, he froze. The gun dropped from his hands and he collapsed on the ground.

If Becca thought her heart was beating fast before, then she had been badly mistaken because after witnessing what just happened, her heart felt like it was going to explode.

Not knowing what to do, Becca opened her car door and saw the gunman laying on the ground in a pool of his own blood with a bullet wound on the back his head.

A shriek of terror left Becca's lips on seeing the bloody mess in front of her, feeling the urge to puke and pass out at the same time.

It all felt like a dream, a very bad one at that. A gruesome nightmare.

But despite the fear and shivers Becca felt inside her, she mustered up some courage and slightly kicked the body, checking to see if it was dead or not.

After confirming that the man was indeed dead, a gasp escaped Becca's lips and her hands instantly flew to her mouth in shock. Her body shook with fear and her legs wobbled as she reach for her car door to make a run for it but froze when she felt something pressed to the back of her head.

A gun.

Her eyes bulged out as shivers raced down her spine.

' Oh God, why does the universe hate me so much? Why does it want me to die so badly?' Becca whimpered as she slowly turned around with shaky legs to see yet another gunman aiming a gun at her head.

That night was definitely not her night.

She forced down the lump stuck in her throat, her body, still shaky like a leaf on a windy day.

" What do you people want from me?" Becca mustered the courage to ask. If she was going to be murdered, then she might as well know why.

The gunman just stood there with a gun in his hand, pointing it at Becca's skull. He didn't even bother to cover up his face as though he was sure his mission would be successful and he didn't have to take precautions.

Becca saw he had a vicious scowl on his face, probably angry that his accomplice was shot dead and now, like a vengeful soul, he was out for blood. Her blood.

" It not about you. Your boyfriend messed with our boss and this is just payback so no hard feelings." The man answered while staring at Becca, whose eyes where now widened to the size of beach balls in fear.

On hearing the man's words, Becca's already terrified brain began running, trying to interpret his what he had just said.

' Boyfriend? Boyfriend? What the fuck is he talking about? I have be single all my life except for the twenty four hours I dated Leo. Was it Leo he was referring to or did he get the wrong woman?' Multiple questions ran haphazardly in Becca's mind as she stood there with shaky knees.

She knew she couldn't possibly fight the guy, he was twice her size and she didn't work out too much to be that strong.

She could always pass out and pretend to have died of fright but what if the man still went ahead and shot her in the head anyway?

If he was crazy enough to attack a woman at night because of a feud he had with her alleged boyfriend, then he would be crazy enough to do anything.

For the second time that night, Becca looked death in the face, literally hearing the grim reaper asking 'what the heck was taking so long?' beside her.

She watched the man tightened his finger around the trigger and quickly shut her eyes, her heart still thumping harshly against her chest as she waited for death. For the bullet to blow her brains out but it never came.

Instead, she heard a weird sound and something collapsing on the ground.

Still trembling terribly, Becca opened one of her eyes to peek at what was happening, or at least to check if she had made it to heaven.

But to her greatest surprise, she was still standing on the same spot but with drop of blood on her clothes.

She stared at her bloody blouse with a horrid expression on her face, wondering whether the blood was hers or not. Since she didn't seem to feel any pain on her body and she wasn't hurt anywhere, she concluded it most likely wasn't hers. But if it wasn't hers then whose is it?

Her questions were soon answered when her eyes trailed to the man lying on the floor, again in a pool of his own blood.

Shit! This definitely wasn't her day.

Becca stared at the bloody man, who was now a corpse from the bullet wound on his head, in shook, fear and relief at the same time before noticing that it wasn't only her there staring at the corpse.

She lifted her eyes up and saw a man standing in front of her, who she probably didn't notice before because of how petrified she was.

He had his back to her and just like the other two men from before, this man had a gun in his hand but the only difference was he wasn't pointing it at her yet.

Realizing that it was the perfect opportunity to make a run for it, Becca quickly but quietly turned around to tiptoed back to her car to run away and escape from all the craziness before it catches up to her again.

But just as she was about to take the first quiet step, the man turned around to look at her, causing her to freeze at the spot.

" Are you okay? Did they hurt you anywhere?" The man asked, his voice full of worry as he stared at the escaping woman in front of him.

Becca swallowed and forced herself to turn around, despite her poor terrified brain telling her to run away as fast as her could.

" Yes, I am fi—" Becca's words got stuck in her throat when her eyes met those of the man in front of her.

' His face. His face. He looks like... What the fuck?!' Her brain couldn't even form thoughts, talk more of reasonable words.

The man in front of her looked just like Leo, a slightly younger and way more devilish looking version of him. But despite the huge similarities they had in their appearances, all it took Becca was one look to know the man in front of her definitely wasn't her Leo.

Becca's eyes then looked Leo's doppelganger from head to toe and took a step towards him despite seeing the loaded gun in his hand.

And the more steps she took closer the more she saw how unalike the man look when compared to Leo.

They were about the same height but the man was leaner that Leo, he didn't have as much muscles as Leo did. Then there was his eyes. The man had blue eyes like Leo did but his blue wasn't Leo's type of blue.

The man in front of Becca had icy blue eyes, the color of the cloudless sky on a hot afternoon. He wasn't like Leo who had dark blue eyes.

The man was also very good looking, so good looking that you could put a wig on him and he would still look better than most women out there and Becca couldn't deny it, the man was indeed handsome, gorgeous even but for some reason, Leo still looked better looking in her eyes.

Becca soon snapped out of her trance and saw that the man was still staring at her with worried eyes then quickly shook her head.

" I'm fine, they didn't hurt me." She finally answered completely and saw the man heave a sigh of relief, as if he had been holding his breath in anticipation.

" Are you sure?" He asked to confirm and Becca nodded.

Then she looked at the two corpses beside them and instantly felt shivers running down her back. Her eyes darted back to the man in front of her, the alive one not the corpse.

After hearing Becca's response, the man nodded his head as well and turned his back to her, ready to go on his merry way after shooting a man dead as though it wasn't a big deal. But Becca didn't even let him make it four steps away, before calling out to him.

" Wait, who are you?" She asked, tilting her head slightly to the side in confusion, causing the man stopped in his tracks and turned his head to her with a smirk on his lips.

' Damn, he even smirks like Leo.' Becca said in her head as she saw the amused expression on his face. Did she say something funny?

Instead of answering the question, the strange man threw another one at Becca. " Who do you think I am?"

With the smirk still playing on his lips, he resumed walking away from Becca, leaving her all alone and vulnerable for the next attacker to come and try his luck on finally killing her. But Becca wasn't a fool to wait for the next gunman to arrive, she hastily got into her car once the man disappeared from her sight and quickly fled the area. Vowing to herself never to use that road again for as long as she lived.

After leaving Becca, Leo's doppelganger kept walking straight ahead, further away from the crime scene and only stopped once he got to where his car was parked. He reached for his car door and froze when he felt a gun pointed to the back his head.

But for some sick reason, instead of being frightened by the gun, he smirked. He was fucking amused.

Since the person pointing the gun stood behind him, he couldn't see his face but from the way the gunman stood and the faint reflection of the person that formed on his car window, he instantly knew who it was.

" Put the gun down, Alfonso. I'm harmless this time." The man's smirk turned into a smile when he saw Alfonso lowering the gun.

" What are you doing here, Damian?" Alfonso, asked, putting his gun back into his pocket.

" If I wasn't here, Leo's woman would have already been dead by now and you would have been preparing yourself to be executed. Instead of asking me questions, you should be grateful." The man named Damien turned around and looked Alfonso straight in the eyes, his eyes no longer holding the worried look it had when looking at Becca but now had a murderous glint in them.

" I had everything under control, I didn't need your help." Alfonso averted his gaze from Damien's scrutinizing eyes.

" If that's so then explain why two trained assassins were sent to kill her. Who is stupid enough to want a death sentence from my cousin?" Damien asked despite already knowing the answer. It had to be Lazzerro, one else was stupid enough or had the balls to go against Leo like that. Damien knew it and was sure Alfonso did too.

" What do we do about it now?" Alfonso asked, causing the smile on Damien's face to instantly vanished.

" We do nothing, just stay silent.. What happened tonight shouldn't reach Leo's ears or else there would be fucking war, the war my grandfather always wanted."
