Chapter 470 - I Did Well

Once Feng Xuan's phone was back in the real world—the one with the reception—she immediately called Qing Chen and told him of her success at Aunt Chunhua. Qing Chen replied to her in a calm reasonable voice.

"Are you sure?" he asked.

"Yes!" she said and pressed harder on the gas. "I'm certain. She's keeping something. I tried to get access of the people who visited her but apparently none of those were in the computers and Qing Lok would not be able to hack in their system to get it. But there are cameras. He can work with that, right?"

"Yes, of course," Qing Chen answered. "You're heading straight home?"

"Yep, I'll be there in…" she looked at her GPS. "Less than forty minutes?"

"Alright, I love you."

"I love you," she replied with her heart feeling lighter. Qing Chen must think that she was delusional. Feng Xuan was actually getting the same idea about herself.

What she saw was real. Aunt Chunhua paused, that kind of look that you knew she stopped herself from saying further. Feng Xuan rubbed her hands on the steering wheel.

Something was telling her that Aunt Chunhua was in her mother's correspondence list. They were in contact after all these years! Because what risk would it be, right? If Aunt Chunhua claimed that her mother was alive, they would only say that she was not right in the head. No one was going to believe her.

Now that she thought about it, her mother would never have left Aunt Chunhua to rot there! The woman was her ride or die! If someone knew if her mother was alive, it was her father and Aunt Chunhua. They were more than friends. They were sisters!

Feng Xuan was going to get those footages and she was going to see her mother.

Her mother would not be able to escape her.

==========

Feng Xuan was in a buzz! With everything set with La Hiena, Qing Lok was free most of his time.

As soon as she got home, she asked Qing Lok to help her. It did not take long before Feng Xuan saw the cameras in Forest Haven on the screen.

"What about the visitor's list?"

Qing Lok shook his head. "Sorry, I don't think I can get that for you right now. We can try to contact someone from the inside to give us a copy of it. But if there's no digital trace, I can't do anything. It's not captured well with the cameras too."

"It's okay," Feng Xuan said, looking at the camera feed that was focused on Aunt Chunhua's entrance and in her room.

She also chose one camera angle from outside of the asylum. Aunt Chunhua's room had been on the first floor and was at the end. She could not risk the windows being an entrance and not have a look at it.

"Thank you so much," said Feng Xuan.

"Anytime," Qing Lok smiled at her and left the desk. "I'll have someone check it at the end of the day to see if there's anything. I'll let you know ASAP."

Feng Xuan nodded and left the computer room for now. She grabbed her phone and sent a text to her father:

Why don't you just admit everything to me? I'm going to know anyway. I'll give you a chance, Father. Tell me the truth now. If I didn't hear it from you, I'm never going to talk to you again.

Feng Xuan waited all day.

But that night, when she checked her messages, she knew that her father read it, but did not reply.

Aunt Chunhua was watering the plants on her windowsill. "Are you growing well? Look how green your leaves are! I can't wait for all of you to flower!"

Being in an asylum and away from the city could be really boring. There was not that much things to do in this place other than to space out and eat. Aunt Chunhua had always been a plump woman, but she was convinced that ever since her arrival in Forest Haven, she had grown rounder.

She wished that she was at home even though home and this room was almost the same. Ever since her daughter took over her late husband's company, Aunt Chunhua had nothing left to do with her life.

She had spent the last of her city life with her best friend Yang Baozai. They were both trophy wives whose knowledge in life consisted of choosing wallpapers, buying the most expensive china, and spending their husbands money.

Yang Baozai on the other hand, even though a housewife, had spent a lot of time managing events and fundraisers for charities. She had always been a leader even when they were younger and Aunt Chunhua had always been her devoted followed.

Aunt Chunhua had grown up in a household that had everything. She bȧrėly did chores in their house. She found comfort of someone else being responsible to whatever else was happening and she was only in for the free ride.

Yang Baozai and her had been a team.

Aunt Chunhua continued to spray on the plants until they had enough water. She was about to get back to her rocking chair when the door opened and a nurse came in.

"Hello, Chunhua. It's time for your medicine."

"Hello," she replied, happily seating on her chair.

The nurse had pretty skin even though it had wrinkled over the years. She was still beautiful despite and carried that easy smile Aunt Chunhua was used to. "How are you today?" asked the nurse and brought the small cup to her.

Aunt Chunhua accepted it. "I did well today, didn't I?" She quickly drank the pills and swallowed with water.

The nurse smiled, her red lips framing the white teeth. "Yes, dear Chunhua. You did well. I'll see you soon again."

Aunt Chunhua only nodded and grabbed the remote control of the TV and started to watch a drama.
