Chapter 215 - Your Heart Has Corners

After the fashion show, almost thirty percent of Da Xia's audience was gone. She kept smiling even though she was already fuming in her mind. When she got down the stage and after the critics promised her nice words, she ushered them out of the room.

When she got in her dressing room, she unleashed the hell inside her. She made a big swipe at her table, throwing and breaking expensive make-up to the floor. She threw everything her hands touched. Her mother stayed quiet, her back against the door.

When her hands found nothing, she walked towards the dress on the mannequin.

"Don't touch that!" her mother shouted.

She was brought back to reality and realized she was seething. Her entire body felt hot like she had a very intense fever. She stared at the silver dress that was meant to be her next change. "I'm gonna kill her!"

"Don't say that. Someone might hear you."

"I don't really care anymore! She ruins everything!" she dropped to the floor and found a duffel bag filled with clothes and she pulled them all out and dumped them at the side. "I need to do something. I need to do damage to her."

"What damage will you do?" her mother asked, almost a sigh. "If you try to stop the date from happening, it would only draw attention to it. Don't be reckless."

Da Xia crossed the idea of putting Liu Meilien in a coma.

"You can't really touch her without you being the suspect." Da Xia's mother was also thinking of something but it would really be impossible to touch Feng Xuan and Wang Yimin. They wouldn't want to face the wrath of Qings and Yangs in this city.

The mother already wanted to tell her daughter to pack up and leave. She was going to be honest, this was not the best idea that they had.

She was suddenly reminded of the deal she made with the chairman.

No, they could not fail. Their everything was riding on this brand.

She dropped down to her daughter. Da Xia had never been the kind of girl who would go crying in a corner. "We can't take the attention away from them. What we can do is redirect the attention elsewhere. Something more immediate and big that the people would be alarmed and would make them suspects."

Da Xia looked confused. Her mother helped her up and pulled the zipper of her dress. "Get changed. You still have to visit your store. People are waiting for you there."

"But, what's the plan?" she asked, already reaching for the dress on the mannequin.

Her mother's eyes were wide but there was a decision set in her mind. "We're gonna have to burn something."

**

After their short breakfast, Qing Lok and Liu Meilien were offered a fifteen-minute break while the cake was still in the oven. Liu Meilien took hers. She still had to look at her notes and retouch her face.

Qing Lok, on the other hand, decided to stay on the counter, looking at the new things the people bought meant for designing the cake. He took some of the supplies and opened them. He wished he had something else to do with his fifteen-minute break.

He decided to try to practice on something before they get to the main event. In his mind, finishing the tasks faster would help them fly through the day (even though they were on an hour-by-hour schedule).

While he was busy trying to squeeze the icing to a clean tray, he had overheard some of the journalists talking about Da Xia's opening.

"Her party was a little small compared to what YANG did," said one.

Another gasped. "Do you know what she tried to do with Feng Xuan? I have read a transcript of an interview she did. She thinks the Yangs opened their own fashion brand because of her and she subtly hinted that Mrs. Qing is insecure of her success in the fashion industry and that's why she wanted to try her cards on the same business."

Qing Lok's eyes widened. He knew that his grandmother had put a stop on some articles when YANG was launched. But he didn't know that this was the content. He could only imagine what his sister-in-law would do to Da Xia when she heard that. Pull her fingernails one-by-one maybe…

Qing Lok put the icing on the fridge to freeze and when he went back, Liu Meilien was already there studying the card. "This looks easy," she said. "The only challenge was how we can make the heart shape."

Qing Lok smiled. "I actually know how to do it."

"You do?" her eyes lit up. "How?"

Finally they reconvened and the cake was brought to them. Qing Lok took the long straight knife and cut.

Liu Meilien was mortified. She grabbed his hand. "What are you doing?"

"Cutting a heart," he answered.

"That doesn't look like a heart!"

"It WILL look like a heart."

"Your heart has corners," muttered Liu Meilien.

He only chuckled and cut the other round cake into a square. "It's like this." He turned the square into a diamond and put the half-circles on either side of the top. "You're wrong. My heart has soft curves."

He let Liu Meilien handle the icing of the cake. He stood there and kept watched, nibbling on one of the edible flowers from the set. Now, this was something he would like to know how to do. It looked so fragile and intricate. Maybe he should start going in the kitchen.

"That looks so real," he said when Liu Meilien dropped 'petals' on the side.

The cake was light pink in color and the flowers were only a shade darker. It looked so innocent, clean, and pure. No wonder why it was called First Love.

Liu Meilien smiled at him and he suddenly remembered who he was. A person who has blood on his hands.
