"Okay, what are we talking about?" Qing Chen asked as Feng Xuan sat down next to him. His stomach was already grumbling with all the hard work he had put in last night. He was so hungry.
"About… the s.e.x."
Qing Chen suddenly felt his stomach dip. Did she not have fun last night? Even though she was basically screaming his name. "What about it?"
Feng Xuan saw the confusion and slight panic in his eyes. "Oh no, it was not that. It was great. Last night was great. Last night was mind blowing—okay, I'm blubbering but… I want to talk to you about was the… uhm, our family planning."
Qing Chen nodded his head, his chest feeling with relief. "Ah, I see. Do you want to talk about having kids?"
"Well, husband, I'm pretty young," she said. "And there's a lot of things that I want to do in life and I honestly haven't thought about this for a long time. I just… the thought occurred to me while I was in the shower."
Qing Chen held her hand. "Initial feeling about this?"
Feng Xuan could feel nothing in her chest. She was passive about this.
"Okay," Qing Chen said. "There's no flaming desire in your body that you want to have a baby. We'll put that on hold."
Feng Xuan held on to him with her other hand. "No, but I also want to know how you feel about this. You want to have a baby, right? Like, make a family?"
"I do," he smiled at her and kissed her forehead. "But if you don't want it yet then we're going to wait until you want it—"
"But—"
Qing Chen pressed a finger against her lips. "It's your body, Xuan. I am not going to force you to have a baby or get pregnant just because I want to. I guess then that we're not both ready yet and that's okay. We're still young."
"But what about…" she clamped her lips. "Sleeping together?"
Qing Chen's lips grinned. "Wife, we can still do it. We'll just have to be more careful. I can be the one who will use protection."
Feng Xuan immediately protested. "But they said it won't feel as good." Then she realized that she didn't have any concrete any evidence for that so she clarified quietly, "as they say."
Qing Chen laughed and pulled her onto his lap, cradling her like she was a child. "And where did you hear that? Hm?"
Feng Xuan pouted. "I had friends overseas, you know? They were really open about this kind of stuff."
He swept her hair behind her ear. "So what are you suggesting?"
"I could be the cautious one," she said, unable to look at him.
Qing Chen rubbed her back comfortingly. "When we get to the hospital tomorrow, we will have an OB-GYN look at you. Okay? Then we will talk about this again." He kissed her cheek and put food in front of her mouth. "Here, have a steamed bun."
Feng Xuan slid down next to him, pushing the food to her side of the bed. On the TV was an interesting docuseries about unsolved crimes. Feng Xuan munched on her steamed bun, loving the sweet pork inside.
Now that she was finally coming down from the high of her emotions last night, the thoughts about her mother came knocking on her brain again. But she could not help not thinking about her. She was now watching a crime that was committed by a woman who was now a suspect for killing her daughter and ex-husband.
Little did she know, Qing Chen was also thinking about his mother because of this docuseries.
Was it really possible that their mother's deaths were all fake? A fluke?
As much as they didn't want to let The Zookeeper in their heads, it was not something that they could avoid because they both wanted it to be real.
Even if they don't want to admit it, they were just kids inside these a.d.u.l.t bodies who wanted to be with their mother. Or at least KNOW for sure that their mother was somewhere in this world, breathing still.
The Zookeeper told Feng Xuan that her mother was not the person she thought she was. What was her mother like? She was overbearing but she loved her. She was against the mafia but she was a supportive wife to her father. She wanted Feng Xuan to be more ladylike but in the end she turned a new leaf and went to her side (not that she got to tell her daughter personally because The Boar already killed her—or according to The Zookeeper, FENG XUAN did).
Feng Xuan shook her head and buried her face on Qing Chen's chest. She didn't want to think that she was the one that killed her mother. She didn't want to be the daughter who kills her mom.
But what did he mean when he said that his mother was not the person she thought she was. She breathed out. Was it possible that she was not on their side all along? But how would that be…
She shook her head again and pushed the thoughts away. "Can we watch something else? Something with aliens in it? Or something Disney?"
Qing Chen was thankful for the distraction. When he saw the first animated film, he clicked on it.
His mind was eating him up.
The Zookeeper told Qing Chen that his mother's move was something from the movies. What? What was it that happened in the movies? Characters faked their deaths because they were running away from something.
So what was his mother running away from?
Was she running away from his father? Or from them? Or from all the chaos in the mafia?
Qing Chen closed his eyes. "Want to go on a trip?"
"Where are we going?"
"Somewhere with sun and I think a beach is possible."
"Okay."
"We're going to see my dad."
