Chapter 399 - I Doubt She'll Die Yet

Feng Xuan was not able to sleep that night. All she could think about was how she could help this family reunite together. She should not be problematizing about this as more than half of the said family blatantly expressed their lack of desire to reconcile.

"Aren't you excited to be going home?" Qing Chen asked when he stepped out of the shower.

Feng Xuan was done and was already dressed. She was busy untangling her hair with a round brush. "A bit," she said.

Qing Chen, on the other hand, although it was not that obvious, looked very much excited to be going back to their house. It was not like he was smiling too much or jumping up and down in joy, but it was evident as he had already packed up his items and cleaned everything. He even made the bed while Feng Xuan was in the bathroom.

"Are you sure you don't want to stay?" Feng Xuan tried. "You know, at least until your mom is better."

Qing Chen sighed and pulled the shirt he prepared earlier from the bed. "She's pretty hard to kill. I doubt she'll die yet."

Well, are you going to wait until she's dying before you talk to her properly? She wanted to tell him that but didn't have the nerve to tell him so. When she was younger and thought about having a husband, she always told herself that she was not going to be the type of wife that would bite her husband's head off in the morning. Figuratively and literally.

Qing Chen noticed the small frown on her face and he looked at her through the mirror. "It's nothing you should be worried about, wife. She's going to be fine. Besides, father's there."

Yeah, your dad who has cancer. She bit back her tongue again.

There was this flaming feeling in her chest that was pushing her to say something about the matter. But there was also water inside of her that keeps putting out the fire, whispering that she was not in the right place to be making comments about their family when she had not been there when the whole commotion started.

He's not you, Xuan, she reminder herself. You might want your mother despite everything that has happened, but he doesn't. And neither does his siblings.

If she was going to fix this family, it was not just Qing Chen that she had to persuade. There was also the matter of Qing Lok and Wuming—who among all the brothers, was the hardest to talk to.

In Feng Xuan's opinion, he didn't strike her as someone who you could talk into doing things. He was very firm. And it was clear that Qing Chen was helping his brothers into building this wall to keep their mother out.

Feng Xuan could only wish that her mother-in-law has a big enough sledgehammer to break it all down.

Qing Chen could not be bothered to visit his mother while she was on her sickbed. As soon as they were out of the threshold and was driving away from the house, she could see weight from her husband's shoulders lifted. She watched as his chest got filled with air in a silent breath of relief.

Feng Xuan knew that he was being a d.i.c.k to his mother. At some point, their mother deserved it. It was just that Feng Xuan could not imagine herself ignoring her mother this way. It broke her heart just thinking about it.

After coming down from all the disasters and raining gunshots scenarios, the silence in their house was eerie. If she was being more honest with herself, she would definitely say that it was scary and alarming. All she wanted was to make noise.

She was about to offer to clean the house but it was spotless clean. If this were an animation, small diamond shapes would appear on the screen to exaggerate how squeaky clean it was. "I'll be in my office," she said and Qing Chen moved to get their luggage upstairs.

Feng Xuan started to wipe down her space. She needed to be doing something or else her mind would drift back to how she wanted to help the Qings… and how hopeless every plan she could think of were.

She wished she could take her mind off it. But she could not. Once she was in the kitchen, trying to prepare their lunch, she was so absorbed with her brain that she didn't even notice that she was already mincing the meat into small particles that it looked like ground beef.

Qing Chen's mother was alive. The Zookeeper had been right.

What if he was also right about her mother?

She shook her head. Nope, she should not even be thinking about this. Didn't she say that she was going to kill her mother if she was still alive?

Feng Xuan bent over the counter with an audible sigh. She was feeling so torn from the inside that she could feel it physically.

Here she was trying to help the Qings reconcile, thinking that that was what she would have wanted if her mother was alive. But then this other side of her believes that she was going to be the one who will end her mother. Again...

She raised the knife and brought it down hard enough that it remained upright on the chopping board.

No, my mother is dead, she said and straightened up. She's dead.

Still there was a slight knock on her mind--The Zookeeper's words that she was the one who had killed her mother. He mentioned something about a secret. A secret that made her kill her own mother.Find authorized novels in , faster updates, better experience, Please click #'s-rose-married-the-ceo_15939261805465305/i-doubt-she'll-die-yet_51941785420751554 for visiting.

But Feng Xuan could not think of an enough reason to kill the person who bore her into this world. Was she someone who was planning to end the world with nuclear bombs?

Or… was her mother trying to kill her?

Who is the real killer?
