Chapter 413 - I Hope Not

Qing Chen didn't think that La Hiena would be interested with what happened with The Zookeeper. Hell, he didn't think that anyone would want to know about that awful human.

"That's none of your business," he answered.

La Hiena nodded his again. "But do you realize that we were friends?"

"Oh," Qing Chen said. "Are you going to avenge him or something?"

"Let's go back. It's actually my business. It is everybody's business. In case you weren't informed, when you kill a mafia lord, wars are bound to start."

"To be honest, I didn't think The Zookeeper is that much important."

"He's far more important than you think," said La Hiena with a monstrous grin.

"Still," Qing Chen splayed his hands. "I don't see wars starting."

"You might not notice now, but some people probably already put a target behind your back. No matter how dislikable The Zookeeper was, he had made friends."

Seriously, Qing Chen didn't think that The Zookeeper would still plague them at this point. He did not care. That was it. "Well, let them come to me then. We'll just see." He was about to turn away as his goodbye but then La Hiena spoke again.

"We're all business-minded people here, Young Mr. Qing." La Hiena took more steps towards him. He was almost at the money bags. "We all go to the winning side. And the winning side is always the highest bidder." He rubbed his fingers together. "My alliance would not cost much. It would only take for you to sign another contract."

"I'm not doing this," said Qing Chen. "Don't press it."

"Chen," whispered Qing Lok from the side.

He only sent a look to his brother and it silenced him.

La Hiena tried once more. "This is not the time to be severing ties from your allies, Young Mr. Qing. This is the time that we should present a united front. We are both powerful. We can make them all bow down."

Qing Chen was only bored at this point. His father had valued this partnership with La Hiena. He had been their greatest source of income. But that had been long ago. Now, they no longer had the need to be in this kind of business.

He was really saying good bye.

"No thanks. We're good."

It looked like La Hiena finally understood that he was not going to change his mind. "A last shake then."

Qing Chen walked, wanting everything to be over so he could go home already. "It had been a pleasure, La Hiena."

La Hiena's hands were meaty and rough. He shook Qing Chen's hand with a firm grip. "I'll be seeing you soon, Young Mr. Qing."

"I hope not."

Then with that, he turned away.

Feng Xuan knew where Qing Chen had been but he didn't expect him to be out this late. Well, she herself had just gotten home less than a couple of minutes ago.

She opened the door for her husband and beamed at him. "Hey!"

He quickly pressed a kiss on her lips and they went inside.

"How did it go?"

"Better than I expected to be honest. I thought I would have to kill him to put an end to everything. I'm glad I didn't though." Qing Chen shrugged off his coat. "I would hate to be responsible for his death. Imagine if his descendants would come after us. It'll take years." He closed the distance between them and pressed another kiss on his wife's forehead. "How's dinner at Wang Yimin's?"

At the tip of her tongue, she was going to say that she had not informed him that she was going to Yimin's. "It's great. She's already stressing me out for the summer collection. She's already getting started."

"But Spring just begun. Not even a two-week break for herself?"

"She's really in the groove. How's dinner?" she asked. She hated knowing that Qing Chen would not get a single home-cooked meal in a day. But sometimes it was just inevitable.

"We got some takeouts on the way home. We ate in the car." Qing Chen already moved for the stairs. "I still have some work left. I'll see you in the bedroom?"

Feng Xuan nodded. "I'll meet you there."

Over dinner, Feng Xuan had been wanting to talk to Wang Yimin about her situation with the Qings. But she could not just tell her cousin that her husband's long-dead mother was suddenly alive again. She wanted some advice but her lips were sealed.

Her father told her to stay away from it. But on her last try, it looked like they were fine. There weren't any violent reaction as much as she had anticipated it.

Was it too soon to talk to Qing Chen about his mother again?

Feng Xuan showered and finished her night routines before she knocked on Qing Chen's office. He sat on his huge seat, staring intently on his empty desk with his fingers propping up his head.

She had to call him thrice before his attention snapped to her. "Are you okay?" She let herself in.

Qing Chen rest against his seat. "Yeah, I'm fine."

Feng Xuan settled herself on Qing Chen's lap when he made space for her. She wrapped her arms around his shoulders. "You don't seem so fine."

"Just thinking."

"About?"

Qing Chen smiled. "A lot of things."

"Well…" she said and trailed a finger on his neck. "I think I know a way to get those thoughts out of your mind for a while."

Qing Chen chuckled and held her hand. His mood was still on serious. "There's a lot of things that would need my attention in the coming weeks. Especially in Enigma. Will you be fine?"

"Yeah, I'll be okay. You just do what you need to do, and I'll do things my way."

Qing Chen nodded.

"Wait, I want to say something," she said.

"What?"

"I want to do something for your family."

Qing Chen's face turned sour.Find authorized novels in , faster updates, better experience, Please click #'s-rose-married-the-ceo_15939261805465305/i-hope-not_52413832945006664 for visiting.
