81 The Arrangement
“What a coincidence.” He Miao lowered her head and greeted Li Ming casually.
In fact, she knew in her heart that this was not a coincidence. It was clearly Xu Meng’s intentional arrangement.
She could tell that Xu Meng liked Li Ming. If Xu Meng was trying to match her with Li Ming, she would not choose to rent this house. However, if her good friend wanted to use this opportunity to pursue her own love, she was willing to help no matter what.
Geographically speaking, this neighborhood was very close to their university, and it was much more convenient than living in the He family’s house.
The place was a two-bedroom one. Although the facilities in the room were not new enough, it was clean and tidy. They could move in after a little decoration.
He Miao looked at the bedroom, which was even more spacious than the one she used to live in the He family, and was very satisfied.
However, she did not forget about Xu Meng and Li Ming. She pretended to look around the house, but in fact, she was secretly observing the expressions of the two.
He Miao could tell that Xu Meng really wanted her to rent the house, so when Xu Meng asked if she liked the house, she signed the rental contract without hesitation and transferred the rent to Professor Xu Heng without a single cent of difference.
The house was settled, but He Miao’s luggage was still at the Jing family’s house. She had just moved in and it was not appropriate to leave today, so she had to move in tomorrow.
When Xu Meng heard that she was living with the Jing family, she glanced at Li Ming’s expression in surprise. ‘Jing Yan looks cold, but I didn’t expect him to take care of his sister.’
Li Ming smiled faintly and suggested, “Why don’t you two come with me to grandma’s house for dinner tonight? I think your house has been empty for a long time. I can help you clean it up.”
He Miao quickly shook his head in embarrassment. “No, I can clean up myself. But I’ll have to trouble you to lend me some cleaning tools.”
“What’s so difficult about that?” Li Ming returned to his grandmother’s house and quickly brought a mop and a broom. “Let me help you. It’ll be faster this way.”
Xu Meng also took the initiative to raise her hand and recommend herself. “I’ll help the goddess clean up too! I’m used to doing housework at home, goddess, you don’t have to be polite with me!”
He Miao had thought that she would need a whole day to clean up the house, but with the help of the two of them, it was done in less than an afternoon. All that was left was to wait for He Miao to move her things over and arrange them one by one.
After that, Xu Meng sat on the bare mattress and looked at Li Ming pitifully. “Class rep, I’m hungry.”
“I’m going to buy some ingredients. Let’s eat at my grandma’s house tonight. I’ll let you taste my cooking.” Li Ming immediately smiled.
Xu Meng stood up in high spirits. “So you can cook! As expected of you! I’ll go with you to buy some vegetables!”
Li Ming shook his head helplessly. “It’s okay. You and He Miao should have a good rest. The supermarket is very close to here.”
“I’ll buy it.” He Miao suggested, “You’ve helped me so much today, so I have to treat you to a meal. I need to know the way anyway, so let’s go together. You can take whatever you like and I’ll pay for it.”
“The goddess is so good!” Xu Meng happily pulled He Miao to the supermarket. Li Ming could only helplessly follow the two energetic girls.
When they reached the supermarket, He Miao would ask for their opinions on almost every item they passed by. As long as it was something they liked, they would put it in the cart. The moment she looked back, the cart was already full.
The three of them carried the bags back to Li Ming’s grandmother’s house. He Miao and Xu Meng greeted the old lady sweetly and took the initiative to go to the kitchen to help Li Ming cook.
As night fell, the aroma of food came from the kitchen.
Xu Meng was so hungry that she collapsed on the sofa, but her eyes secretly looked at the busy figure in the kitchen.
He Miao sipped her tea and chuckled to herself. She sat on the sofa and chatted.
Her phone suddenly rang. He Miao put down her teacup and took out her phone, only to see that it was an unfamiliar number.
She picked up the phone in confusion and heard Jing Yan’s deep and magnetic voice ask directly, “Grandpa asked when you’ll be back for dinner.”
Only then did He Miao remember that she should have called Grandpa Jing. Now that Jing Yan had asked, she could only say apologetically, “I’m sorry, I’m having dinner at my classmate’s grandma’s house today. Don’t wait for me for dinner, I’ll go back later.”
Jing Yan snorted and hung up the phone. He looked expressionlessly at his Grandpa, who was reading the newspaper leisurely on the sofa. “She’s not coming back to eat.”
