117 Exchange Breakfast
“Hey, where are my mooncakes?!” He Miao stared at the crumbs on the table and then at Jing Yan, who had an innocent look in his eyes. She then turned her anger to Onion.
“Did you secretly eat it?” He Miao picked up Onion and lectured to its ears.
The pitiful Onion did not know what had happened. It opened its wet eyes and listened to his master’s lecture.
As for the culprit, Jing Yan, he turned around and laughed with red ears.
After the meal, Jing Yan promised to pick her up to visit Grandpa on the weekend, and then he left, satisfied.
The next day, after school, heavy rain poured down with a muffled thunder as Jing Yan walked out of the lecture building.
Mu Xiao grumbled as he retracted his foot. “What kind of weather is this! Brother Yan, did you bring an umbrella?”
“I did.” Jing Yan looked in the direction of the Fragrance and Perfumes Department’s lecture building, then glanced at Mu Xiao, who was full of anticipation. “You come with me first.”
“Where are we going?” Mu Xiao hesitantly hid under the umbrella and followed Jing Yan silently.
When they arrived downstairs, Jing Yan handed the umbrella to Mu Xiao. “Alright, you can go first. I’ll go back by myself later.”
If Mu Xiao still did not understand what Jing Yan meant by now, his head would be useless.
He pursed his lips and stepped into the rain alone with his umbrella.
Jing Yan walked into the laboratory without hesitation. He saw He Miao, who was wearing a white coat and preparing spices.
The fresh fragrance mixed with the smell of the rain filled his nose, instantly calming down Jing Yan’s frantic heartbeat.
“What are you doing here? What’s wrong?” He Miao looked up and asked, then lowered her head and fiddled with the spices again.
Jing Yan casually found a seat and sat down. His gaze fell on He Miao, who had a serious expression on her face. With an undisguised gentleness, he said, “From today onward, I’m your neighbor upstairs. I was just waiting for you to come home.”
He Miao nodded slightly, not too surprised. “I’ll probably be busy until very late today.”
“I won’t disturb you.” Jing Yan took out his phone and secretly took a photo. He put it away guiltily and looked out of the window.
He Miao did not notice any of this. It was not until the sky turned dark that she lifted her head from the perfumes and walked over to the drowsy Jing Yan with a smile. She patted his shoulder and said, “It’s almost time. Let’s go.”
Jing Yan opened his eyes and looked at the time. There was less than half an hour left before he would become that stupid dog.
He nodded and looked at the rain that had stopped. He pulled He Miao’s hand and ran into his car.
“You seem to be in a hurry?” He Miao sharply sensed something and asked with a frown.
Jing Yan did not stop driving, his fingers tapping on the steering wheel. “I’m just hungry.”
He Miao pursed her lips and smiled guiltily. “I’ll be in the lab until this time for the next few days. You don’t have to wait for me.”
“Don’t worry,” Jing Yan said lightly. “I’m worried about you going home alone at this hour.”
The car was parked downstairs.
He Miao wanted to invite Jing Yan to her house for dinner. After all, ever since he became her brother, he had always been considerate of her.
However, who knew that Jing Yan, who had been clamoring to eat the food she cooked, would act out of character today and rush upstairs?
He Miao thought it was strange and was worried that he was not feeling well. She wanted to send him food after he made it.
Jing Yan lay lazily by the kitchen, watching as He Miao put the food into the lunchbox and was about to go upstairs to find him. He felt a warm current in his heart.
Unfortunately, he could only bite the hem of her pants and not let her waste her efforts.
He Miao bent over and patted Onion’s head. “Be good, I’ll be back soon. Wait for me at home.”
Jing Yan was easily pushed aside by He Miao. He squatted down gloomily, his ears drooping as he waited for her to come back.
He Miao returned very quickly. She knocked on the door for a long time, but there was no sound from inside. She had no choice but to come back with the lunchbox. She picked up her phone and sent him a message, asking if he wanted to have dinner together.
Jing Yan saw everything. He lifted his paw to hook her trouser leg and looked at the lunchbox with pitiful eyes.
“Do you want to eat, Onion?” He Miao asked affectionately.
Jing Yan barked, his tail wagging behind him.
He Miao smiled and put away the lunchbox, then stuffed beef jerky into his mouth. “Eat this if you’re hungry. You won’t like these dishes.”
Jing Yan chewed the beef jerky in his mouth in a daze and watched her put the lunch box into the refrigerator.
Jing Yan woke up on time at 1:50 a.m. He was still thinking about the food she had left for him, but she should be sleeping soundly at this time.
Jing Yan did not have the heart to disturb her sleep, so he closed his eyes and went back to sleep, enduring his hunger. It was not until dawn that he quickly tidied himself up and went out to buy breakfast.
He Miao had just woken up and was about to make some breakfast when she heard a light knock on the door.
When the door opened, Jing Yan looked at the drowsy-eyed He Miao and said with a smile, “I’ll have a fresh and warm breakfast in exchange for your meal last night.”
