124 Forgetful
He Miao stayed up until the wee hours of the morning and could not take it anymore. She lay on the sofa and curled up to sleep.
At 1:20 a.m., Jing Yan finally woke up from his bed.
He opened his eyes and looked for the figure that he had been thinking about for a long time. Finally, he focused on the girl who was curled up and sleeping on the sofa. He got up and lifted the quilt. Looking at the bandage on his hand, he narrowed his eyes and smiled sweetly.
He had seen with his own eyes how serious He Miao’s expression was when she was bandaging his wound.
As long as she still kept him in her heart, he would one day break through his status as her brother and become the most important person in her life.
He got off the bed quietly, walked to the sofa, and bent down to pick up the girl’s slightly cold body.
He Miao suddenly touched a warm object and was jolted awake from her sleep.
She looked up at Jing Yan’s doting smile and her eyes blurred for a moment. Her heart suddenly beat violently. “You’re awake? Is your body alright?”
“I’m fine.” Jing Yan was reluctant to let go of her, but the sofa was too close to the bed. Even if he deliberately slowed down to buy time, he would reach it in no time.
He placed the young girl on the bed, covered her with the blanket, and turned to leave.
However, his arm was suddenly grabbed by a pair of cold hands. He turned around in surprise and saw that He Miao had already turned on the bedroom light. She pulled him to the bedside with a serious expression and looked at him with a frown. “Are you really okay? Why did she suddenly fall into a coma? even your private doctor can’t diagnose the cause.”
“I’m really in good health. You don’t have to worry about me.” Jing Yan looked at her puffing her cheeks and seriously interrogating him. He could not help but pinch her chubby cheeks. “Are you worried about me?”
“You’re not serious.” He Miao pushed Jing Yan’s hand away and curled into the blanket in frustration. The blanket covered her head, and her muffled voice came out. “You can go now. I’m going to sleep.”
Jing Yan turned off the bedroom light for her, his fists clenched and relaxed by his side. With his heart beating like a drum, he bent down and pulled her blanket away with shaking hands. Looking at the sweet face inside, he could not help but lower his eyes and say with a red face, “Miaomiao, I’ve missed you so much during the past few days.”
“Jing Yan.” He Miao looked down at his feet. The atmosphere in the dark was too ambiguous. She did not even dare to look up at him. “You should go back.”
“Alright,” he said. Jing Yan sighed and greedily sniffed the unique sweet milky fragrance on her body. His voice was hoarse and low. “I’ll pick you up tomorrow.”
“Mm,” He Miao replied, half of her face buried under the blanket. She watched as he left the room. It was only when a soft sound came from the door that she realized she had forgotten to breathe.
He Miao’s face was flushed red, feeling strange about her thumping heart. She closed her eyes and stayed up until it was almost dawn before she fell asleep in a daze.
The next morning, He Miao had just woken up when Jing Yan knocked on her door, looking refreshed.
They went back to visit Grandpa Jing on the weekend as usual.
The old man knew that his grandson had been staying upstairs with He Miao for a while and would definitely bring He Miao home during the weekend, so he woke up early and sat on the sofa to read the newspaper.
The butler poured a cup of tea for Grandpa Jing with a smile. As they were talking, Grandpa Jing suddenly felt a sense of discomfort in his heart. He bent down and his hand trembled so much that he could not hold the cup steadily. The cup fell to the ground and broke into pieces.
The butler was about to call the private doctor, but Old Master Jing stopped him. He panted slowly and said with his eyes closed, “Go to my room and get the medicine. There’s no need to call the doctor.”
Seeing that Jing Yan was about to come back with He Miao, the old man did not want them to know that he had not been in good health recently. He was afraid that they would worry about it and affect their studies. If he called the doctor now, he might just run into them.
The butler understood what he meant and sighed disapprovingly. However, he did not dare to say anything that would worsen the old master’s illness. He hurried to the room to find medicine and fed it to him.
When Jing Yan and He Miao arrived, they had not had time to clean up the broken pieces of porcelain on the ground.
He Miao frowned and said, “Be careful.” Then she squatted down to pick up the broken pieces of the glass.
Jing Yan quickly stopped her. “Let the servant do it. Don’t hurt your hand.”
He Miao looked at the Old Master’s pale face and suddenly felt a wave of panic.
She walked to the Old Master’s side and held his arm. She patted his chest to calm him down. “Grandfather, are you not feeling well?”
“No, I just watched TV late last night and woke up early today.” Old Master Jing waved his hand and smiled. “You haven’t eaten yet, have you? Let Jing Yan take you out to eat something, you don’t have to worry about me.”
He Miao was still worried and suggested calling the doctor, but the old man insisted, so she had to go to the dining room for breakfast uneasily.
She always felt that she had forgotten a very important thing, but she had only glanced at the contents of this book in the past and had not read it carefully, so she could not remember what it was for a while.
