134 The Competition
In the laboratory, Xu Heng was on the phone. When he saw He Miao, he gestured for her to keep quiet. After he hung up, he smiled at her and said, “You’re just in time. I have good news for you.”
“Professor Xu, what’s the news?” He Miao asked curiously, blinking her eyes.
Xu Heng patted her shoulder with a smile. Our city is going to hold an fragrance-making competition. The participants are all experienced fragrance-making contestants, and the rewards are more generous than the last time. The city gave me the spot, but I think you’re more suitable than me to participate.
He Miao shook her head disapprovingly. He did not want to take up Xu Heng’s opportunity to be promoted. “Sir, I’ll be happy if you’re participating too.”
Xu Heng knew what she was thinking and smiled politely. “I’ve been focusing on teaching in school all these years and I’ve long forgotten about reputation. But you’re different. You have a very high talent in making fragrances and you’re still young. You need a bigger platform to let more people see your strength, so this time you’ll listen to me and sign up for the competition with my invitation.”
“But, professor, I’m afraid.” He Miao still felt uneasy.
She was not a person who cared about fame and fortune, but she would take the opportunity seriously. However, this was an opportunity that the city had specially called to promote Xu Heng, and she could not take it away for no reason.
“Alright, there’s no need to say more. You just need to prepare for the competition. I’ll send the competition rules and details to your phone. I’ll be leaving first.” Xu Heng only noticed Jing Yan standing beside He Miao after he finished speaking. The smile on his face disappeared.
His stern expression was as if he had seen some silly boy trying to snatch his precious daughter away.
Since Xu Heng had already said so, He Miao could only gratefully accept this opportunity.
She really needed a bigger platform to show off her strength. After all, the last competition was just a competition between students. Even if she won first place, the seniors in the fragrance-making industry would not look at her with much respect. However, if she stood out among the seniors who were invited this time, her fragrance-making career would develop even more smoothly.
Xu Heng was indeed a very responsible teacher. Even though He Miao did not need to learn anything from him, she respected him from the bottom of her heart.
Xu Heng glared at Jing Yan for no reason. Jing Yan touched his nose in confusion and saw He Miao looking at the direction he left in a daze. The jealousy in his heart immediately overturned and he said unhappily, “He’s already gone. How long do you want to keep watching?”
He Miao then retracted her gaze and glanced at him. “I’m indebted to you, professor.”
“Alright, alright, alright.” Jing Yan looked at her back as she turned away in anger. He pressed himself against her. “Am I not good to you?”
He Miao blushed at his question. She naturally knew how well Jing Yan treated her, but she did not know when she’d started treating Jing Yan as one of her own. She had subconsciously treated him as the closest person to her, so much so that she’d forgotten that he’d treated her well from the bottom of his heart even though they had no blood relationship.
“Why aren’t you talking?” Jing Yan looked curiously at her reddening face, his heart pounding. He had a feeling that He Miao did not dislike him as much as she showed.
“Of course you’re good to me. After all, you’re my brother.” He Miao hid the expression in her eyes and replied half-jokingly, then ran to the corner to take out the sachet she had hidden.
Jing Yan followed her closely and sniffed it carefully. He could smell the gentle and soothing fragrance even through the bag. He immediately asked her for it in surprise. “I haven’t been sleeping well recently. When will you make some for me?”
“No one can wake you up when you’re sleeping,” He Miao joked with a smile, but in her heart, she had already secretly noted down this matter.
However, she only did so because Jing Yan had helped her so much. It had nothing to do with any other feelings.
He Miao consoled herself like this, and her wildly beating heart finally calmed down.
Jing Yan thought to himself, ‘Isn’t sleeping so soundly only because I turn into that stupid dog every night?’ On second thought, he was waking up earlier and earlier. Maybe one day, he would not have such a bizarre change again. At that time, would he not have trouble sleeping alone every night and lose a great opportunity to get close to He Miao?
Thinking of this, the joy in Jing Yan’s heart was immediately diluted.
He Miao did not notice his deep thoughts. She wrapped up the things and walked out of the laboratory.
When they were about to reach the elevator, He Miao suddenly realized that there was one less person’s footsteps behind her. She walked back, not used to it. She leaned against the door of the laboratory and looked at Jing Yan, who was throwing a tantrum internally, and smiled. “Brother, we should go home.”
Jing Yan’s heart skipped a beat when he heard her words. Even though she had deliberately added the word “brother” to avoid arousing suspicion, it had already made his face blush and his heart beat faster. The haze in his heart had completely cleared up.
He nodded slightly and took the item from her hand. He muttered with determination, “One day, I’ll make you get rid of that annoying word.”
He wanted her to go home with him willingly as his fiancée!
