158 The President Takes Office
Jing Yan stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window on the top floor of the building, listening to his secretary, Chen Zhao, reading the report he had submitted with a cold expression. He would interrupt from time to time, pointing out the problems or filling in the loopholes.
It was not until the secretary’s mouth was dry from reading that he finally finished reading the documents handed in by his subordinates. Looking at the cold back of the new president, he swallowed unconsciously and asked tentatively, “Then, President Jing, should I send out the documents that need to be edited now?”
“Yes.” Jing Yan turned to him expressionlessly and said in a flat and serious tone, “You’re the secretary grandpa assigned to me. Don’t ask me about such trivial matters in the future.”
“Yes.” Chen Zhao wailed in his heart. He had heard that the former president’s grandson had not graduated from university yet. He thought that his work would be easier if he followed Jing Yan. After all, he knew the behavior of those rich playboys.
If it were not for Old Master Jing’s age, he would not have handed over such a huge family business to his grandson.
He had come to Jing Yan’s first day of work with a lazy attitude, but he did not expect Jing Yan to have learned so much from Old Master Jing at such a young age. He sat calmly at the head of the table the whole morning, but the directors who had been eager to make a move earlier were already beginning to feel nervous.
A few of the braver ones expressed their dissatisfaction with Jing Yan, and even tried to sound him out and threaten him, but he retorted them with a few words, leaving the group of old generals speechless.
Now, everyone in the company knew that this new young president was not easy to fool. They had to serve him with 120% care and attention.
The crisp sound of the door closing came from behind him. Jing Yan finally turned around from the floor-to-ceiling window and returned to his seat. He stared at the phone on the table in a daze with a melancholy expression.
It had been an entire morning, but he had not received a single message from He Miao. She had clearly agreed to his request before she left.
Did this mean that she had not missed him the entire morning?
The more Jing Yan thought about it, the more depressed he became, and even his expression became worse.
Chen Zhao was shocked by the resentful new president when he returned to his office. He quickly made a pot of hot tea and placed it on the president’s desk. “It’s time for lunch. I still don’t know what you would like to eat.”
Jing Yan pursed his lips and listed a few home-cooked dishes with a deep look in his eyes.
Chen Zhao immediately called to order food. He was secretly surprised at the new CEO’s taste. He looked like a cold CEO who did not eat anything, but the dishes he liked were so ordinary that even he did not like them. This new CEO’s personality was really hard to pin down.
Chen Zhao had no idea that the dishes Jing Yan had casually mentioned were all made for him by He Miao in the past.
Since he did not receive her message, Jing Yan could only look at the plum blossoms to quench his thirst and rely on these things to fill the emptiness and loss in his heart.
However, when Chen Zhao really brought out the delicious food, Jing Yan was suddenly dissatisfied. He only took a bite and put down his cutleries unhappily, which frightened Chen Zhao.
“Doesn’t it suit your taste? Do you want me to get someone to make it for you again?”
“No need. Go and rest. Come see me on time in the afternoon.” Jing Yan fretfully pushed away the extra people around him. He desperately wanted an independent space to miss the girl he loved.
He remembered that when he was freeloading at her house, He Miao would occasionally make mistakes. She would either put too much salt or too little salt. In more serious cases, she would mix up the other ingredients, causing a perfectly good stir-fried dish to become a mess, as if someone had poisoned it.
However, Jing Yan enjoyed the food every time. Compared to the delicate and delicious food in front of him, he would rather spend his rest time with He Miao in their own house, eating the food she made for him alone.
However, the ones Chen Zhao brought did not have any of her taste.
Jing Yan closed his eyes. Just as he was about to continue editing the documents in frustration, the phone in front of him vibrated.
He hurriedly picked up his phone to take a look. A familiar pink profile picture was followed by a red circle, placed at the top of all contacts.
He Miao sent, [‘ll be very busy for the next few days. I’m afraid I won’t be able to find time to visit grandfather. However, I just video-called the caretaker in charge of taking care of grandfather. He’s in good condition, so you don’t have to worry.]
Jing Yan could not wait to call back, but after the call went through, he suddenly stopped for a moment and asked in a low voice, “Have you eaten? What are you busy with tonight?”
“I just finished.” He Miao’s eyes widened in surprise. She did not expect him to call her all of a sudden. “I’ve got a new order coming up, so I’m staying in the lab to work overtime.”
Jing Yan’s black eyes flickered, and a gentle smile brewed. “Don’t work too hard, or my heart will ache.”
