Chapter 28.1

The midterm results were released soon after. Primary school children were only tested on Mathematics and the Chinese Language during their midterms and finals. Out of the 5 classes in Grade 1, there were two children who scored 100. The class teacher of Class 1 and 2 was delighted because the two students were from both classes.

Luo Shuyan and Shen Yan both scored 100 in their tests.

And both were in the limelight.

Luo Tianyuan and Shen Qingruo were very happy. Even though it was merely the first exam, it was important enough to let the parents of the children become excited.

Shen Qingruo went to the wet market to buy a whole chicken and made chicken stew with half of the chicken, and another half of it as roasted chicken for the children.

At the dining table, Shen Yan glanced at Luo Shuyan before saying, “I don’t want to eat my drumstick.”

Shen Qingruo didn’t think much about it and said, “You can pass your share to Shuyan and have the chicken wings instead.”

A few days ago, Luo Shuyan watched a very long Korean drama with Shen Qingruo. Before long, Shen Qingruo ushered the young child back to study.

Shen Qingruo didn’t think that Luo Shuyan could understand what was happening in the romance drama, and she didn’t want her eyesight to be ruined from watching the TV for too long.

Luo Shuyan snickered. “Shen Yan, you like chicken wings?” And she turned to Shen Qingruo and said, “Aunty Shen, in the Korean drama we watched a few days ago, the middle-aged woman said that men who eat chicken wings are two-timers. Is that true?”

At that, she recalled that she was a young child and cocked her head. “What is a two-timer?”

She will not allow Shuyan to watch Korean dramas with her in the future.

It means that, that when two people are together, for example if they’re in a romantic relationship or married, one of the parties went behind their partner’s back and got together with someone else.”

Shen Yan looked at the chicken wing in his bowl; the chicken wing no longer looked appetizing.

“However…” Shen Qingruo was superstitious, and when she saw her son’s upset expression, she continued, “I believe that even if my little Yan eats a lot of chicken wings, he’ll grow up to be a righteous man. Chicken wings are healthy and are a good source of protein, we can’t blame cheating on innocent chicken wings.”

When Luo Shuyan heard her explanation, she laughed and said, “Shen Yan, if you’re scared, I can switch with you. You can have the drumstick, and I can eat the chicken wing.”

Shen Yan quietly protected his bowl. “No.”

In the end, Luo Shuyan ate the big chicken leg, while Shen Yan had the chicken wing.

Luo Tianyuan had also prepared rewards for the children. Other than some small gifts, he’ll also be bringing them to the steakhouse outside for dinner.

The Red House Restaurant was the most high class western restaurant around the area.

Usually, Luo Shuyan would do everything in her power to stop them from having dinner at such a pricey place. However, now, she felt like she was set free.

She wasn’t sure if her father was truly the rich man from the novel, but she was certain that they weren’t as poor as he portrayed them to be. They may even be part of the list of billionaires in China.

Since they were loaded with money, having a meal at a western restaurant wasn’t an issue anymore.

Luo Tianyuan didn’t know that his secret had already been discovered by the two children. Just like how Luo Shuyan unconditionally trusted him, he too looked at his daughter through the eyes of a doting father. He also portrayed himself to be extremely confident in front of her. Thus, he completely missed his daughter’s long stares at him, as if she were saying —My father is such a good actor.

Shen Qingruo and Luo Tianyuan understood each other very well. She would graciously excuse herself from joining them during such occasions. Their town was small, and it was likely they would run into someone they knew. It hadn’t been easy for them to convince others that they were merely friends, and for the rumors to die down. Thus, if people were to see them eating at a restaurant together, their past hard work to distance themselves from each other would go to waste.

When Luo Tianyuan brought the children to the Red House restaurant, he happened to bump into someone he knew as soon as he parked his car.

He hadn’t expected to meet Qin Yutong in Ning City.

After some small talk, Qin Yutong smiled and said, “A manager from the Ning City office requested for someone from the HQ to train their staff. Originally, it had been two other colleagues, not me. However, one of them just found out that she was pregnant, while the other has children and elderly at home to take care of. Thus, I volunteered to come over to help, and I’ll be here for half a year.”

Luo Tianyuan knew that Qin Yutong was one of the higher-ups in her company. After all, she had amazing grades in university and was given scholarships.

Even though they didn’t end up together, they’d been together in the past, and he remembered her as someone who couldn’t endure hardships. She was from Jing City, and with her now volunteering work in the outskirts, he could tell that she’d grown a lot over the years.

“Mn.” Luo Tianyuan thought about it for a bit. He figured that since they had gone to the same university, he said, “You’re new to this town. If you ever run into trouble, feel free to come to me for help.”

Qin Yutong bit her lips and broke into a beautiful smile.

She raised her hand and tucked a piece of hair behind her ear. She happily said, “Sure, let’s exchange contact numbers. I brought some snacks for children along with me from Jing City. When you’re free, I can bring them to your house for your daughter to try.”

Shen Yan and Luo Shuyan stood at aside, totally ignored.

Luo Shuyan didn’t think much about it, but Shen Yan was much more sensitive towards the lady’s words. He had a bad gut feeling when he looked at her.

The lady said that she wanted to bring snacks for Luo Shuyan, but she never looked at them once.
