Autumn arrived, and Luo Tianyuan had completely forgotten about the fact that he’d exchanged numbers with Qiu Yutong.

Until he received a call from her one fine afternoon.

“Tianyuan, I’m sorry for bothering you at this hour. I can’t do this alone, and you know that I’m new to Ning City. I don’t know anyone else here, and I’m not very close to my colleagues. Since a few days ago, I felt like someone has been following me back home, and I’m not sure if my instincts are right. I’m very scared, and I’ve been staying with another female colleague at the company’s staff quarters, but she hasn’t been staying here these days…” Qin Yutong sounded helpless, and it seemed like she was about to burst into tears at any moment.

Luo Tianyuan knew that Qin Yutong was exceptionally beautiful, and had many admirers in Jing City. Thus, her looks must be a value adding feature to have in this small city.

They were good friends in the past, and graduated from the same university. Thus, he couldn’t just let her face things alone. He said in a low voice, “Don’t worry, what time will you be getting off from work?”

Qin Yutong sniffled and said, “I don’t have much to do today, so I should be going home at 5.”

“Alright, I’ll apply for a leave from the company and go to pick you up. Take me to the path you’d usually take to go back to your accommodation.”

Qin Yutong held back a tear and said, “Alright, Tianyuan, thank you. I’m so scared.”

Luo Tianyuan comforted her a bit more before he hung up the phone. He informed his colleagues that he’ll be leaving and headed to his car.

As soon as he left, Song Wanqing arrived. She sat in her car while she watched him drive away. When she saw that he was heading in the opposite direction from his house. She instructed her driver to keep an eye out for him. “Follow his car, but don’t go too near, don’t let him notice us.”

Song Wanqing was in a different car today, so even if Luo Tianyuan looked through his rear mirror, he wouldn’t be able to recognise her car.

One month had gone by since they last spoke.

Song Wanqing was the apple of her parent’s eyes. No one has ever allowed her to lose out, be it on material or intangible wealth. Thus, she was a proud woman who shouldn’t cut Luo Tianyuan out of her life as soon as he said such hurtful words to her. She had planned to cut him out from her life, however, her plans didn’t work out; her heart started to change after a month of not seeing him, and she mustered up the courage to visit him today.

Luo Tianyuan didn’t know that Song Wanqing was following him and he drove all the way to Qin Yutong’s office.

He looked at his watch. He had specified the timing with her through the phone, and she had agreed to be at the entrance on time. He’d even rushed to get there on time. Yet, after 10 minutes, she hadn’t come out from the building.

He gave it some thought and asked the elderly guard at the office entrance about her whereabouts. The kind old man helped him to phone the office. Within minutes, Qin Yutong was running out from the building.

The weather wasn’t very hot today, so she was dressed in a white blouse and a mid length skirt. She’d also put on a soft puffer jacket, which made her look very gentle and elegant.

Qin Yutong seemed to feel bad. “Tianyuan, I’m sorry, I had to help my colleague with something just now and I really couldn’t leave. Have you waited long? If not, how about I treat you to a meal?”

Luo Tianyuan laughed. “No need, I didn’t wait long either. Plus, my daughter’s class teacher is coming for a home visit later, so I don’t have much time for a meal. Perhaps another time.”

Qin Yutong was shocked for a moment before she regained composure. “Fine then, your child should be your priority.”

When she noticed that Luo Tianyuan had driven over, Qin Yutong was surprised. “Is this your company car?”

Luo Tianyuan opened her side of the car door and said, “I guess so.”

In actuality, they weren’t talking about much, but in the eyes of Song Wanqing who was peeking from afar, they were crossing the line.

She was furious, and her hands held tightly onto her bag.

True enough, Luo Tianyuan had lied to her when he said that they weren’t suitable. He left her because he’d fallen in love with someone else. This explained everything that happened in the past month; from him stating that he would never marry, and to why he reacted so coldly when she went to find him at his house. Turns out, some other woman was in his life!
