Once he felt that he had moved far enough away from the previous location, Lance finally sat down within a large tree that helped shield him away from the gazes of any demonic beast who chose to come close enough to spot him. Swallowing a battle qi recovery pill, he concentrated heavily in order to build up enough energy to continue moving closer to the center, while also hoping he could find a more secluded area to rest.
At the moment, Lance had in possession a 1st grade fire elemental demonic core, which meant that even if he didn't have a high fire elemental affinity, that taking in the energy from the core, would allow him to increase his inner mana size allowing him to rank up.
For the average mystic, it would take more than a single demonic core at this grade to jump from the 1st rank to the 2nd rank, but since he was already about to breakthrough, Lance could just use this one elemental core to advance into the next rank.
And so, when he felt that he had enough strength to continue onwards, Lance stood up and started to move once again towards the center of the forest. However, the pace he was now taking, was much slower so that he didn't use any battle qi. In order to increase their physical strength or speed, a warrior path expert could use their battle qi to do this, but Lance did not want to waste any energy if it was unnecessary.

He was still upset that he was unable to take down a 1st rank demonic beast by just using the battle qi in his body alone. Lance wanted to temper his strength in order to stand a much better chance in this tournament, but the fact that he needed to use his trump card against an opponent when the other competitors might not have, made his stomach turn.
"Have I really bit off more than I could chew by entering this tournament?" was the one question that Lance kept asking himself as he continued moving forward. Taking out the talisman given to him by the judge and finally stopping in place once again, he felt as if a large bag of weights were sliding off his body the more he thought about just throwing in the towel at this moment and giving up, even though he was too old to enter one in the future.
Seeing Lance just standing in place and looking at the talisman in his hand, William along with the teachers of Griffin academy felt rather confused. The way they saw him fighting a demonic beast earlier, increased their hope that maybe he could in fact bring the reputation of the Griffin academy to higher heights.
"Come on you stupid boy, that may have been your first true life or death battle, but if you do not continue onwards, you may never breakthrough further as an expert of the mystic path or the warrior path." William said, loud enough for his friend and the teachers to hear since they were right next to him.
"Oh William, is that the student you were hoping would win the bet against the Mystic Sabre academy?" Leonard couldn't help but ask him as his gaze went from focusing on one of the dark horses of the tournament and back onto Lance.
"In your position, out of your students competing, I too would have bet that child would easily be able to surpass the preliminaries. From the short glimpse I took of the battle just a bit ago, it seems that child specializes in the warrior path, and yet you made him enter a tournament for mystics?"
"Still, if he were able to become a dual master, I wonder how exactly he would advance further along and what type of tactics he would use. What is his elemental affinity?" Leonard asked William out of curiosity, even though it was still unclear whether or not Lance would drop out of the tournament soon.
"His name is Lance, and he is close to breaking through into the 2nd rank as a mystic with a high light elemental affinity." William responded to his friend, trying to gauge why such a question would be asked. Leonard would rarely ask him any questions, unless it held a more significant reason.
"Well, I have never heard of a mystic specializing in the light element and also trying to pursue the warrior path at the same time. If Lance chooses not to remove himself from the tournament and continues on, there is no telling what his future will look like, but I would be excited enough to keep track of it." Leonard told William before concentrating his gaze onto a different competitor.
"I am sorry Leonard, but I must warn you that if Lance were to place high enough within this tournament, I was planning on taking him as my first personal disciple. But, if that is the case and you were interested in him enough, I wouldn't mind allowing him to choose which one of us would make the best teacher for him." William told Leonard with a very small and unnoticeable grin on his face.
Back on the island, Lance lightly squeezed the talisman as even more roars from across it. However, everything from his clan and family to the Griffin academy in his memories came to him as he continued staring at the talisman. He was after all just twelve years old and just killed something for the very first time in his life.
