49 Chapter 49: This Isn’t Like Her

Neon lights danced around inside the club. Loud dance music was blasting. Flirtatious laughter and exclaims burst out from clutters of young girls and boys now and then. Most girls were clad in tight dresses or crop tops and shorts.

Evette swam her way through the crowds, grabbing Nathalia's arm. Obviously, she was a regular there. They went up straight to the fifth floor, the VIP room area. The vibe was very different from the first floor. It was abnormally quiet. They zig-zagged through maze-like hallways in dim lights till Evette pushed a door open into a grand room where neon lights shone, and dance music blasted again.

Young girls in tight dresses were dancing with guys in shirts, shaking their bodies and heads exaggeratingly. They stopped to stare curiously, when the door opened, at Nathalia as if she was some sort of weird creature.

"This is your half-sister? She's so plain-looking, nothing like you at all. Are you sure you two have the same father? Seriously?"

The girls were terribly mean, probably due to jealousy. "Spencer Davidson is getting engaged to her? It must be some kind of mistake."

"Exactly. Any girl that has been with Spencer Davidson is way better than her."

Some guys took the chance to please Evette, "Evette, you are so beautiful, but your sister is so ugly? That's weird. She should at least be half good looking as you if she's really your half-sister."

Evette all smiled. "I don't really understand either." She said as she swayed her hair back and revealed her partially covered breasts.

Tony had been staying close to Evette, his eyes fixed on her alluring chest, though he remembered to support her by questioning Nathalia, "What do you think, Nathalia Carter? How do you explain that?" Obviously, he was insulting Nathalia as an outcast.

Tony had been trying hard to get Evette, following her around. Extremely loyal. However, it didn't bother Nathalia at all. She knew very well what he was trying to get and paid no attention to him.

If people were just trying to make her feel embarrassed and inferior, it was no big deal. It didn't mean that she would compromise either. She glanced around the crowd, and calmly and casually, she commented, "I'm sure I have the Carter's blood in me. As with someone else, I can't guarantee it. If you do want to know, why not ask her to do a DNA test?"

Though Nathalia didn't say who it was, everyone knew who she meant. Her words were cold, and her attitude firm. They poked straight into Evette's heart like needles.

The crowd was shocked. Don't they say she's weak and doesn't talk much? This isn't like her.

Again, Nathalia wasn't bothered at all. She simply replied, "I didn't say it's you, just giving an example in general."

Nathalia was very careful with her wording, so even if anyone wanted to record it, it wouldn't be a problem.

Evette was outraged but couldn't find a word to say. Seeing so, Tony remarked loudly, "Wow, wow, wow. No wonder Evette has been bullied so badly. You are really good at it, aren't you?" He pointed his finger at Nathalia.

She used to look weak and timid. I guess I was wrong. Huh. Mean and calculating, that's what she is. My poor Evette, getting bullied by her. Tony thought.

Nathalia smiled. "Who are you?" she asked casually.

Tony was astonished by her smile, and it even made him shiver, however, he took a look at Evette, the girl he called goddess, and he plucked up the courage to defend her and himself. "I'm Evette's classmate. How you treat your sister is disgusting, and of course, it's because you are jealous of her."

Nathalia sneered and found him rather irritating simply for his stupidity. Another dumbass was fallen for a stupid, vain girl.

"What's about her that I should be jealous of? I'm the oldest daughter in Carter's. My grandfather has left me millions, and even if the Carter doesn't give me any money, I have no worries. What's more, Spencer is my boyfriend, wait, I should say, fiance. Do I need to be jealous of anyone?"

Everyone was dumbfounded as if they never realized it. It was true. Just the fact that Spencer Davidson was Nathalia's finance would make all the girls jealous.

Evette, who had remained silent, suddenly commented, "Nathalia, at least I have love from my mother, my natural mother."

What Evette was trying to say was that Nathalia's mother had died and so she was jealous of Evette for having love from her natural mother. It was like rubbing salt in the wound. Evette was trying to provoke Nathalia to see her lose control of herself.

Some people frowned at Evette's comment while some feel unpleasant as not everyone had their parents' love, and not everyone had a happy family.

Nathalia looked astonished, eyes wide open, "Evette, what do you mean? Your mum is my mum. What's the difference? Doesn't mum always say she sees me like her own daughter and loves me as much as you? Isn't that true? Or is she saying that just to use me? Is it just a lie?" Nathalia sounded more emotional as she went on. Evette didn't expect it was coming at all. She acted like she was terribly misunderstood, and immediately she tried to justify herself. "No, no, that's not what I mean." tears in her eyes.

Again, Tony couldn't bear seeing Evette upset and sternly, he remarked, "Nathalia Carter, you are making things up. Evette didn't say that. Why are you trying to make Evette look bad?"

I guess it is an advantage of being good looking. No matter how wrong she has been, she gets forgiven and even protected. Huh. Nathalia thought. What an idiot this guy is!

"I'm trying to make Evette look bad? Or Evette has told you to say that?" Nathalia retorted. She could imagine how badly Evette spoke of her to her classmates, and she found that rather amusing. That's all you can do? Come on.

Her self-assurance and confidence overwhelmed Tony, and he lost his tongue.

Nathalia then turned to Evette, eyes looking right into hers, and her lips tilted to a sneer "Evette, did you tell him to say that? How have I made you look bad? Huh? Tell me, please."

No one dared to question her or utter a word. She was in control.

Evette was in tears, and she replied meekly, "How dare I say such a thing? You are my dad's favorite. Even if I am wronged, I dare not tell anyone.", implying that Nathalia had been mistreating her as she was doing it there and then.

The crowd looked at Nathalia in disapproval, but Nathalia didn't bother to explain. Instead, she picked up her phone and dialed a number. She pressed 'speaker.'

"Dad, Evette is saying to everyone here that you only love me, and she's been wronged by us, and we have been mistreating her. She even doubts if she is your real daughter..."
