96 Chapter 96: Cunning And Selfish

The other shareholders realized it was highly possible and became furious. "Don't be ridiculous, Mr. Carter. It's your mistake, your responsibility. How can you make us pay for it?"

Nicolas thought angrily, Frank Carter, this is unacceptable. I will have to treat you the way you treat us.

"I suggest we have another meeting at the end of the year, a meeting about dismissing Mr. Frank Carter as the chairman." He said sharply.

"Good suggestion." Richard agreed immediately.

"I agree."

"I agree." Others followed.

Though each of the shareholders had only a small percentage of the shares, they had 34% in total. If Nathalia wasn't involved, with 43% of shares, Frank didn't need to worry too much. However, it was a different situation now, and he had to be careful.

Assholes! Useless assholes!

In despair, Frank assured them by saying, "Don't you worry. I will take complete responsibility. If there's any loss, I will take care of it." It hurt him to make such a promise as if he could see the money taken away from his bank account already.

Nathalia! It's all her fault! Naturally, Frank blamed Nathalia for it.

The shareholders didn't really want to dismiss Frank but needed to be assured that they would not pay for the loss for the mistake Frank made.

With the promise, they left the meeting room, not interested in whatever plans Frank was going to suggest anymore. Hearing the shouting, banging on the table and chairs, the secretary standing at the door shivered in fear.

When Frank returned home, Anne had been waiting. "Honey, what happened? How come? It's a big loss." It's not just a few thousand. It's a lot of money. That could last me for a while.

Frank was in a terrible mood, but he tried to stay cheerful and comfort his wife. "Don't worry. I will find a solution."

Anne handed him a cup of tea and said angrily, "It's that little devil again! Nathalia is heartless. She works with others to go against you. You are her father, but what is she doing to you!"

It had become a habit for Anne to drive a wedge between Frank and Nathalia even though now there was nothing but hatred and revenge left between them.

Frank's eyes turned cold, and he swore, "Ungrateful little shit. I will not be kind to her this time. I've raised her up. 18 years! What is she doing to me?!"

Anne sighed in relief, knowing that her husband would surely do something about it. She was more concerned about the heritage Nathalia would get than the loss of several million.

Thoughts and ideas flowed in her mind as she lay in Frank's arms. She looked up at Frank with affection and said softly, "Honey, I love you. Whatever happens, I will always be with you."

Her sweet words seemed to do the magic, and all the troubles were swept away from his head. He hugged her tight and placed a kiss on her lips. "I know, darling, you are the only person in this world that truly loves me, and I can trust."

Nathalia's phone rang just as the sun was rising, and the first beam of sunlight broke through the clouds and shone into her bedroom window.

She awoke slowly, had a stretch, rubbed her eyes, and answered the phone. "Hello." Her voice was still drowsy.

Hearing the sudden news, Nathalia sat up straight away.

"What?! Really? Frank Carter was attacked last night, badly hurt and in hospital." Sophie was shocked as well, and her jaw dropped, eyes wide open. "Ha. Finally. He's got what he deserves!" She said with excitement, then thought it might be a bit too mean and giggled shyly.

Nathalia made a phone call and confirmed the genuineness of the news. She wore a frown on her face and was a bit confused. "I wonder who attacked him?" she spoke her mind out without realizing it.

How bad is it? What were the bodyguards doing?

Sophie had been visiting Nathalia often to keep her company, and sometimes she would stay the night if it was too late to go back to her mother's.

"Who cares? He's done so much harm to so many people. It's not surprising that someone wants to hurt him. I guess many people want him dead." And in fact, Sophie did want him dead, so to spare Nathalia from living a life of hatred and revenge.

Nathalia sat on the bed, her hands cuddling her knees, her lips pouted, she wasn't sure what to think.

Is he going to die?

Despite how angry, disappointed she felt about him, she had never thought of him dying and disappearing in her life.

No, he can't die.

Sophie then realized something wasn't right. She hesitated, then asked, "Nathalia, do you want to go to the hospital to see how he is?"

Nathalia smiled a sad smile. "No. If I go, people will just think I'm pretentious."

"Yeah." Sophie agreed in a helpless tone.

Though it's still very early, neither of them could go back to sleep, so they got up and tidied the room a bit before Nathalia decided to go out and get some breakfast. There were many restaurants and cafes around. She grabbed her purse and went out.

As soon as she walked out of the apartment building, a man in his early thirties showed up from nowhere. He had a scar on his left cheek, looking malicious. He seemed anxious as if he was running away from someone.

"Miss Nathalia Carter." He rushed to Nathalia and blocked her way. Nathalia frowned, stepped backward, and instinctively, she put her hand in her purse and found the Taser.

"Who are you? I don't know you."

The man looked annoyed and said, "I'm Jack. You hired me to work for you. Your father called the police, and they are all looking for me. You need to help me out. I'm running away from them. I need fifty thousand..." He extended his hands out for money.

Nathalia realized something had gone wrong. She responded quickly and glared at the man sternly, "I don't know you. I don't know what you are talking about. Stay away from me."

She backed away quickly. But the man was prepared. He quickly grabbed Nathalia's hand and said, threateningly. "Miss Nathalia Carter, you hired me, I did the job, your father is in the hospital, and now you want to deny everything?!"
