98 Chapter 98: She’s Too Fearless

He closed his eyes, hesitated, and helplessly, he said in an unusually soft tone, "Alright, come with us." We need to get her to the police officer first and deal with the camera later.

Nathalia let out a laugh. It was so clear and cheerful that it made the three guys shiver with fear. What is she trying to do now? She's too fearless. Frighteningly fearless.

Matt glanced at Nathalia as if he understood why. "She's my friend. I will go with her."

Jeff hesitated but dared not say no directly. "Well. I'm afraid..." he muttered.

"Why? Am I making it difficult for you? Shall I call your supervisor?" Matt questioned with lifted eyebrows.

The fact that Matt was close to the supervisors and bosses gave him some authority and demanded respect from others in the same job.

Jeff's face went pale. "Don't. I mean, of course, you can come with us if you want." One is tougher than the other. Shit.

When they finally got to the police station, Jeff and the other two guys felt immense relief. Matt was asked to stay outside the interrogation room according to the rules, and Nathalia was led inside. Before she went in, she passed the camera to Matt.

As soon as Jeff was in his territory, he regained his confidence and soon bombarded Nathalia with questions.

"Nathalia Carter, anything you say can be used against you in court. I suggest you be honest and cooperate with us, or severe punishment awaits. So, where were you last night?"

However, he was not to get a single answer from Nathalia. He tried to threaten, to sweet talk, to persuade, but Nathalia refused to utter a word. He was furiously frustrated again by a young girl, and he lost his temper, "You paid Jack to attack Frank Carter. We have the evidence. What do you have to say?"

Nathalia glanced at him, mockingly and said nothing.

Her cold indifference enraged Jeff tremendously, and he swung his hand up, intending to give her a slap, but Nathalia simply stared at him with a smile on her face. It made him shiver with fear, and his palm landed heavily on the table.

"Speak! Cooperate!" He yelled.

The two assisting officers looked at each other, both thinking what's this? Who's interrogating whom?

The interrogator was furious and had no control of the situation while the one being questioned remained calm and indifferent, even elegant.

Jeff had no idea what to do to get Nathalia to speak. He dared not threaten her physically, knowing that Matt's right outside the room. Anger brewed inside him.

After a while, Nathalia finally spoke only to enrage them even more.

"Before my lawyer gets here, I won't say a word."

Jeff clenched his fists, his eyes reddened with anger, and he bellowed, "What an arrogant, wicked rich girl you are! No wonder you would actually try to kill your own father." He was pushing her limit, but it wasn't the right way to take.

The other officers glanced at Jeff, shook their heads in disapproval. He can't say that. That's stupid. Does he think he's the judge? Even so, he has no right to make such a comment.

Nathalia threw a pitiful look at him as if she could see what he had to face soon. "Officer, may I remind you that you committed the crime of defamation. You accused me of something that I have not done. I have the right to sue you. How do you feel about that, officer?"

Jeff's jaw dropped, eyes wide open, "You are suing me?!" He started to regret taking the job. If he had known how difficult it was to handle Nathalia, he would not even give it a think. But it was all too late now.

Just then the door was pushed open, and the police chief hurried in, with an apologetic smile on his face, he said to Nathalia, "Miss Nathalia Carter, you can leave now." His tone was polite and gentle.

Nathalia smiled at Jeff as if to say 'see, and it's all for nothing. What have you got in the end?' The anger brewing inside Jeff just exploded, and he lost his senses and yelled at his boss, the police chief, "Why? We have just got her here!"

The police chief pulled a long face, and his tone turned cold, "Are you questioning me?" Jeff then realized how he had behaved and panicked, "No, no, no. I didn't mean that. But," He had almost got what he wanted, and he could not bear to just give up, so he went on, "All are equal before the law. We can't just let her off because she's Nathalia Carter..."

The police chief frowned and wondered what happened to Jeff as he was usually smart.

"Who says she's committed any crimes? Do you have the proof?" The anger in his tone was obvious, and Jeff's face went pale, and straight away, he spat out the truth, "It's Mrs. Carter. She said..." As soon as he said it, he regretted, and as expected, Nathalia retorted angrily.

"Did she see me do it? Ask her to talk to me! Huh, why do you do whatever she tells you to do? Are you her pet? Or is she paying you well?" Nathalia showed no mercy nor politeness at all. Extremely embarrassed and enraged, he was left speechless.

The chief glared at him and thought Useless idiot. I will deal with him later. Then, he turned to Nathalia with another apologetic smile, "Miss Nathalia Carter, it's just misunderstanding. Please don't take it to heart."

Nathalia was wondering what was happening, but she maintained her angry look, "I was almost threatened to admit something that I have not done. I'm thinking if someone's actually paying him to do this to me. I need an answer, the truth."

Her demanding tone and straightforwardness shocked everyone present, including the police chief. Where has she got so much confidence from? Has she got support from someone important? But it doesn't make sense. Her father has denied her. Spencer Davidson and she broke up. She's just a girl with the title of 'Miss Carter'. Why is she so self-assured?

It was the first time the chief acknowledged the aggressiveness from Nathalia. "Miss Nathalia Carter, don't you worry. We will investigate and get the answer." He said with a worried smile.
