103 Chapter 103: If You Want To Play, Then I Shall Play Along

Ann looked worried and pulled Evette behind her, "Enough. Stop this nonsense. Your dad is still in the operating theatre. What are you arguing here for?" She stared at Nathalia as she stressed the word 'argue' as if she was accusing her of starting a fight.

"Nathalia, please leave. We don't want to see you." Her attitude seemed less hostile, but her tone was harsh. She sounded like she was trying to provoke Nathalia.

Nathalia gave it a thought before she replied, "Yeah. No problem. Please call me when the operation's over and let me know how dad is." It wasn't a response they were expecting, especially Ann. She's supposed to get angry and start arguing. Ann thought, dismayed and annoyed.

Evette stomped her feet angrily. We can't just let her leave! She freed herself from Ann's hand, stepped forward, and blocked Nathalia's way. "You are leaving just like that? Don't you worry about dad? He might die. How can you be so cruel?"

"I'm just obeying Mrs. Carter, your mother. She doesn't want me to see my father, and I don't want to upset her." Nathalia looked into Evette's eyes, lifted her eyebrows, and smiled, "Talking about being cruel, I believe you are better than me." Anyone else can call me cruel, but not the Carter.

"You should at least wait till dad wakes up. You need to ask for his forgiveness, promise him you won't hurt him again and let him take care of all the properties and heritage..." Evette grew impatient and let it all out without thinking.

Nathalia let out a sigh, realizing what they were trying to get from her. So that's what you are plotting, waiting for me to give up everything and let you control my life again.

"Evette Carter, you know what, you sound just like a mad girl. I've heard that they have very good psychiatrists here. Why don't you go and see one?" Nathalia suggested sarcastically.

Evette shouted in a trembling voice, her fists clenched, "Nathalia Carter, you are taking it too far! How dare you call me mental?!"

Sean watched Evette speechlessly. Has she not got a brain at all?

Nathalia glanced at Evette indifferently and said clearly, "I've asked the police to investigate the whole thing, and I will make sure it will be a thorough investigation. Don't you worry? I will find out the truth, and no one, no one can set me up and make me take the blame for what I have not done."

If you want to play, then I shall play along.

"What do you mean? Are you trying to deny it? Do you think we are accusing you? Huh? You dared to do it, but you are scared to admit it." Evette retorted with a bit of unusual cleverness.

Sean played along and said with sincerity, "Sure, Miss Nathalia Carter. I will take care of it. It's very kind of you to help your half-sister."

Nathalia realized that the normally serious Mr. Rushton had a good sense of humor as well. She smiled understandingly and said, "I trust you. Thank you."

It made Evette furious, and she couldn't hold it anymore as she yelled at Nathalia, "Nathalia, I will...", but she was immediately stopped by Ann. "Stop." Ann grabbed Evette's hand and pulled her over. "Let them go." She said in a demanding tone as she thought disappointedly. Silly girl. She still has a lot to learn. Why can't she stay calm?

Nathalia took a glance at them, kept her chin up, and walked out of the door. As soon as Nathalia and Sean left, tears rolled down Evette's cheeks, and she stomped her feet in frustration.

"Mum. How could we just let her go like that?"

Ann took Evette into the bathroom, closed the door behind them before she replied, "Don't rush. We need a little bit more patience, and we WILL get it all back. We will get revenge..." Anger and hatred were written on her face.

On hearing so, Evette stopped crying, and her eyes lit up. "Yes. Mum. You are right! We will!"

The news that Frank Carter had been attacked and was now in a coma had traveled all around the country. It was a hit in the business field. People were discussing it, analyzing it, predicting the outcome. Meanwhile, a video clip online had been clicked at and watched thousands of times. It was about the encounter between Nathalia and the Carters at the hospital. The public condemned Nathalia for being disrespectful.

What was worse was that, somehow, the rumors that Nathalia hired someone to attack her father spread out, and it angered the public greatly. Nasty comments were left under the video clip.

Nathalia watched the edited video and sneered. Seriously? Using the trick that Ive used before? Can't they think of something new?

However, one could not deny the influence of social media.

Sophie slapped the desk as she watched the video, her face reddened with anger, "Horrible people! Horrible people! I can't believe they actually did this to you." She knew that Nathalia was not at all someone that would rob, hurt, or kill. It was obviously a setup. Someone wanted to hurt Nathalia.

Nathalia grabbed an apple from the fridge, took a bite, and said casually, "What are you angry about?"

Sophie jumped up from her seat, "They are spreading rumors about you. They are attacking you. How can you be so calm? Wait, Nathalia, you have a plan of what to do, don't you?"

Nathalia sat down, rested her chin in one hand, and smiled confidently, "Don't worry. Let them enjoy it for a few more days."

University life was to start in a few days for Nathalia. Queenland University was over an hour's drive away from where Nathalia was living. Shall I rent a flat near the university? She was wondering and wasn't bothered about the video.

Sophie was even more worried, seeing how indifferent Nathalia was. "Come on, Nathalia. We need to do something about it."

Just then, the doorbell rang. Sophie and Nathalia looked at each other, surprised. Who can it be? It's late.

Also, ever since Nathalia moved it, no one had visited apart from Sophie.

Sophie opened the door, saw a tall and handsome figure standing outside, a smile lit up her face as she exclaimed with excitement, "Matt! You are here! Do you remember me? I'm..."

It had been a while since Sophie last saw him. Though she knew he lived in the same building, she had not bumped into him once.

"You are Sophie, Nathalia's friend," Matt said plainly.
