163 Chapter 163: What’s Between Them?

Nathalia stopped, but she didn't turn around, "Yes?"

Anna was clenching her fists, stomping her feet. These two synchronize! What's between them?! It made her worry.

"Spencer, don't you blame her at all? She's the one that hurt mummy..."

Spencer glared at her, and she froze. "Why...why are you looking at me like that?" Anna muttered.

Nathalia sighed, "I'm running late. I shall go. See you."

Spencer stood there, gazing at Nathalia's back as she walked away. Suddenly he made a move and was about to run after Nathalia again, but Anna stopped him, grabbing his arm. "Spencer, can you please do me a favor?

Spencer frowned and said, "What is it?"

Biting her lips, Nathalia pretended that she was in big trouble, "It's my dad. He's coming here, and he's very angry. Can you please help me and talk to him?"

Spencer looked at Anna, pulled her hands off his arm, and said, "Ok, I will speak to him later." Then he ran to the parking lot and jumped into his car.

When Nathalia got out of the car, she felt exhausted after all these emotional turbulence.

"Nathalia." The familiar voice came behind her when she just walked through the apartment gate. Her body shivered, and she clenched the key in her hand, "Yes?" but she answered calmly.

The bodyguards saw that it was Spencer and Nathalia and stepped aside, leaving the couple plenty of space for their own.

Spencer walked slowly towards Nathalia. Each step was like treading on Nathalia's heart.

"I miss you, a lot, a lot, but I..." he said emotionally. But I can't see you. There's too much pain, too much worry.

He had been longing to talk to Nathalia. So many times, he had stared at his phone but couldn't press the button to dial her number. It was driving him crazy, this pain inside him.

Tears filled Nathalia's eyes. She could hear the pain in his voice. "It's ok. I understand. Let's wait until your mum wakes up." If she dies, then it will be over. We will never be together again.

Despite how much they loved each other, how much they wanted to be together, they both knew it all depended on if Spencer's mother lived or not.

When she signed the paper, she already knew she had put everything on one bet and predicted this coming, but she didn't have a choice, and she never regretted it. She did what she should and wanted to do.

It wasn't about right or wrong. She was just following her heart.

A sharp pain gripped Spencer's heart, and tears filled his eyes. He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down. "Nathalia, you understand me the best. I'm really lucky and grateful that I've met you. I promise you that mum will wake up. I promise."

She did care. Of course, she did care how people would think of her, especially how Spencer would think of her.

In the dim moonlight, her skinny figure looked so fragile. He wanted to hug her, hold her, feel her heartbeat, but he didn't.

"I know. I know you, Nathalia. You never hurt the innocent. You have a warm and loving heart. You never lie. You don't care to defend yourself or explain because you know you are innocent and those who understand you and trust you understand."

Tears were streaming down Nathalia's face. She couldn't hold them back anymore. It was a relief. It was a joy because Spencer understood her.

She turned around and said, "Thanks for understanding. Your trust means a lot to me." To have someone that really understands me, trusts me, and loves me is more than I've asked for. Being able to come back to life and experience such love, I have no regrets.

Spencer held his hands tight, suppressing the urge to run to hug the girl he loved so much.

"Wait for me." He said. All those words running in his head disappeared, but only three words came out. Wait for me. Wait for the day when I can be free and be myself to be with you. The day will come soon. It will.

"I will." Nathalia nodded with a tearful smile. I will wait for you to come back to me. Even if it takes a long time, even if the day won't come, the promise you made will keep me going.

Spencer handed a folder to Nathalia, "Here, take this."

Taken aback, Nathalia asked, "What is it?"

"Have a look when you get home," Spencer said.

Nathalia knitted her brows, took the folder, and said, "Ok. I shall go now. Bye. Take care." She waved her hand as she walked away.

"Nathalia, I love you." The wind carried Spencer's voice to Nathalia's ears. She paused for a few seconds, but she didn't turn around, didn't say anything, then continued walking steadily. Her heart was assured.

The day of the engagement party finally approached. It was held in one of the most expensive and luxurious hotels in Miami. A lot of journalists and successful guests were invited.

The party hall was beautifully decorated. Presidents of well-known companies gathered around, all dressed in their best, wine or champagne in their hands, chatting and laughing.

The Carter couple welcomed the guests with bright smiles. All those invited were present except the Davidson family. There were even quite a lot of guests that came uninvited.

Frank Carter was proud to see so many guests around, thinking he was someone of great influence in the business field.

Wearing a tight sexy dress, showing her curves, Evette looked very desirable and attractive. Ben was wearing a formal suit, his hair well-groomed, looking cheerful and excited. He was all smiling. They stood next to Frank and Ann, greeting the guests.

A lady in her sixties walked in and went straight to Ben and Evette. She held their hands and said, "Congratulations. You are a beautiful couple."

The crowd was shocked. Most people recognized Evette, remembering her beautiful and attention-seeking face, but not all.

However, it wasn't surprising that some people would misunderstand. The fact that Frank Carter was marrying his older daughter to some random guy was rather peculiar, and many of the guests had come to see who the lucky man was.
