214 Chapter 214: What A Stupid Mistake

Spencer lifted his eyebrows and sneered at Evette, "Well, well, if you say so. I'm sorry about your father's death then. So it has nothing to do with my Nathalia because now that we know you have a different father, you and Nathalia are not even half-sisters."

Nathalia looked at Spencer with a content smile, feeling grateful for his protection.

It's possible. Anne Carter probably doesn't even know who the father is. Ha. The crowd looked at Evette with disdain.

Nathalia Carter is smart, good-mannered, and understanding, but Evette Carter is nothing like her sister, well if they are sisters. She's probably not Frank Carter's daughter.

The same question arose in everyone's head. Evette was trembling with anger. "Spencer, you are so mean. You know what you said is not true. You are insulting me." Of course, I'm Frank Carter's daughter. What's wrong with you people?! There's no doubt at all.

Spencer thought it was enough, and time to end this ridiculousness. "I don't have time to waste on some brainless girl. Nathalia, shall we go? He took Nathalia's hand, fingers intertwined, and went up the steps to the entrance."

Evette stomped her feet, her fists clenched and shouted after the beautiful couple, "Apologies, or I won't let you leave!" She was too angry to think or make sense anymore. All she knew then was to have them make it clear to the public that she was Frank Carter's real daughter.

I'm my dad's favorite girl! He's loved me and spoiled me all my life. How dare they think that I'm illegitimate!

Spencer didn't even pause. He waved his hand and said to his bodyguards, "Please take the psychopath away." The same air of authority, with no allowance of questions or doubt, it demanded immediate obedience.

The bodyguards obeyed and quickly went for Evette. Evette screamed and hid behind Ben. "Ben Johnson, are you dumb or something? Say something! Do something!" Useless! He's definitely not good enough to be my date! Evette cursed silently.

Ben had embarrassed himself a few times. I can't escape this one. I might as well try to win some respect back. He thought and plucked his courage to say, rather, calmly, "Nathalia, be civilized, please. Frank Carter is, well, was, your father, at the end of the day. Despite what he's done or what's happened between you two, you should still at least give him a funeral."

It was obvious that he was implying Nathalia's lack of mercy. Unexpectedly, Nathalia paused, turned around, and looking down at him, she smiled a disdainful smile and said, "When Mr. Frank Carter actually passes away, I will surely give him a grand funeral. Don't you worry about that, Mr. Johnson?"

Again he'd embarrassed himself. He couldn't find his tongue and remained awkwardly silent.

Nathalia sneered as she said casually, "By the way, the police have done a DNA test on the body, and the result showed that there was no biological connection between us. But, who knows, maybe he IS your biological father, Evette. You are welcome to give him a funeral."

The dead is not Nathalia's father, but might be Evette's father? Ha, that means Nathalia is Frank Carter's daughter, but perhaps not Evette. The crowd analyzed and murmured.

Evette stared at Nathalia in disbelief. That's not what I've heard! The information I got is different.

"Impossible! You are lying!" Evette snapped.

Spencer frowned and said scornfully, "It sounds like you really wish your father dead. How lovely!" He led Nathalia up the steps without turning around, determined not to pay any more attention to either of them. No more needs to be said. They are merely a waste of our time. He thought.

Evette was so embarrassed yet helpless that she ground her teeth, clenched her fists, and couldn't do anything but watch Spencer and Nathalia leave.

Some journalists started laughing out at her. "How are you feeling, Miss Evette Carter? Carter? Is your family name Carter? Hahaha"

"Even I feel ashamed for you. My god. How embarrassing!"

Surrounded by sneers and mockery, Ben's face turned red. How he wished he could hide somewhere. Why the hell did I bring her here?! What a stupid mistake!

He aggressively brushed Evette's hand off his arm and went towards the door. Evette ran after him, anxiously, "Ben Johnson! Wait! Wait for me!"

As soon as Spencer and Nathalia went into the hall, people came to welcome them courteously and eagerly. Greetings were exchanged; wishes were conveyed; toasts were made.

Ben and Evette, who came in following behind, were, by contrast, ignored, especially Evette. Despite the great effort, she made in seeking attention, people offered her none, which irritated her immensely. Ben, who was an expert at socializing, acted calmly and won himself back some favor from the crowd.

Spencer led Nathalia through the crowd for some time, and when he noticed the tired smile on Nathalia's face, he quickly took her to a quiet corner for a little escape. It was rather energy-draining.

Nathalia had been watching Ben and Evette. It was obvious that Ben was doing very well socializing. He had learned his tactics through the years, knowing what to say to please others, all the dos and don'ts.

Most of the guests seemed to like him, despite the fact that his horrific past conducts, mainly for the reason that he was now one with a large sum of fortune. It was a time when the rich had a say.

Evette insisted on holding Ben's arm, following him around. However, it didn't help her much. No one showed any interest in having any interaction with her.

Though she was one of the Carter, she had no shares of the company. What's more, the Carter went bankrupt, and her reputation didn't help. She would have probably been thrown out or not even been allowed to come in if it wasn't because of Ben Johnson.

Nathalia watched them quietly, with a frown between her brows and lots of thoughts going through her mind.

She felt a little squeeze from the hand holding hers. She turned around to see Spencer looking displeased. "What's wrong, honey?" He was fine just then, talking and laughing with people. What happened? Nathalia wondered.

Spencer tilted his chin. "What's she doing here? Who allowed her in?" He sounded very annoyed.

Nathalia followed his indication and was shocked to see Nancy, Matt's mother, dressed up fancily, accompanied by Amy Berry, the girl who loved causing a scene at shops. It looks like the news about the marriage isn't based on anything. Nathalia thought.

"Huh? Don't worry. She's probably just come for the crowd and attention. It should be fine." Nathalia comforted.
