216 Chapter 216: Why Is She Lucky?

People seemed to understand Nathalia's silent response.

One of the shareholders, Richard Smith, couldn't help interfering. He remarked sardonically, "Well. That's different. Of course, no one questions Miss Nathalia Carter. She's the older daughter of Carter, and this is her family business. Also, she holds the second most shares of the company. But, you, you are just working for someone who we don't even know. You are new to us, and you just came to claim the position of CEO..."

He just joined the company like he's the big boss. Does he really think that he controls the whole company just like that? He should know himself better. He's not one of us, the real shareholders.

Richard's comment brought a blush of embarrassment on Ben's face. He had not expected someone would insult him on such an important event right there and then. He then recalled that the manager of the sales department who he fired recently was Richard's nephew.

Evette thought of something and suddenly shouted out loud at Nathalia, "Nathalia, did you plan this? To make it difficult for Ben? To insult him in public? You can't be the CEO because you are not capable. You can't beat us by playing such tricks." She yelled aggressively, anger flaring up.

Nathalia remained calm as usual. "Us? Who's us? You and Ben Johnson?" She questioned causally yet challengingly.

She carried herself with an air of elegance and confidence, which left everyone impressed and even amazed. Though she wasn't one of those that possessed the beauty that would have every man begging, she had a light that shone everywhere she went and charmed people around her.

Standing next to Spencer, her beauty was even more eye-catching. The couple was like a perfect circle, making each other shine even brighter.

Evette thought quickly and had another idea. A sneer appeared on her face. "Huh. You can't blame Ben for not loving you. It's not his fault. What do you want? However hard you try to seduce him, he won't consider..."

She went on and on excitedly with her ridiculous accusation.

The crowd was as intrigued as puzzled. They listened and watched the two couples curiously while thinking Ben Johnson and Nathalia Carter? Impossible. Nathalia Carter would be out of her mind to fall for Ben Johnson.

Most of them had come to the ceremony simply for the sake of courtesy. Ben seemed successful, but deep down, they had no respect for him. It would be a different story if Ben himself was the real shareholder.

Ben watched Nathalia with pretentious affection. The crowd was reminded of a certain incident that happened recently and couldn't help wondering.

Spencer stroked her hair tenderly. The two were like living in their own world, protected from the scandalous attack.

It angered Evette even more. What the hell is their response?! What do they mean? Ben seemed disappointed.

The crowd watched quietly. It's a free drama show. Why not? Who would believe her? I mean, who would choose Ben Johnson over Spencer Davidson? She's just shouting nonsense.

Spencer took a look at his watch, noticed the time, and his face lit up. He suddenly stood up straight, extended his hand, looking into Nathalia's eyes, and said gently, "Come, Nathalia."

Nathalia smiled and put her hand on his, wondering what his plan was.

"Everyone, you are welcome to join me," Spencer announced delightfully. He led Nathalia out of the hall and up to the rooftop.

The crowd followed out of curiosity and completely forgot about the people on the stage. Soon the hall was empty and quiet as if nothing had happened. Evette felt like someone had slapped her on her face. She stomped her feet and clenched her fists furiously.

Ben ground his teeth, trying not to scream, and quickly followed the crowd up to the roof.

It was beautifully decorated. Blossoms of roses stood around the railings, colorful balloons waved in the evening breeze, and fairy lights flickered wonderfully. In the middle, red candles in glass domes were lit and placed in the shape of a heart, circling red roses spelling the words 'Nathalia, I love you.'

The full moon shone brightly in the clear sky, her light reaching every spectator's heart and caressed them with love and gentleness. The fragrance of the roses filled the air and greeted everyone's nose pleasantly.

Nathalia gasped, her hands covering her mouth, her heart racing. "Spencer..." her voice trembled slightly.

A band had been waiting on the side. Spencer nodded to them with a smile. It was Nathalia's favorite tune, Unchained Melody.

Nathalia brushed shyly. She was so nervous and overwhelmed that she couldn't utter another word. Though she had guessed that Spencer would give her a present, this was much more than she expected.

With everyone watching, Spencer picked up the bunch of roses that had been prepared, and all of a sudden, he got down on one knee, looked up at Nathalia, his eyes brimming with love, and he said tenderly, "I've never known what love is until I met you. You've changed my life. I love being with you. I'm the luckiest man in the world to have met you and fallen in love with you."

There was only the sound of Spencer's words and the gentle breeze.

The usually cool Spencer Davidson, who was extremely economical with words, had expressed his love affectionately, sincerely and openly, with a crowd of people watching. At this moment, he was just a man in love.

It touched many hearts and broke a lot. Evette stared in disbelief. Why? Why? Why is Nathalia so lucky?! What has she done to deserve this? To be with the best man?

Tears were streaming down Kelly's face. She was sobbing so hard that her body was shaking. He is in love, but not with me. Subconsciously, she wanted to run to Spencer but was stopped by two bodyguards who seemed to have been watching her expectedly.

Amy grabbed her arm when she almost fainted. "Kelly, it's fine. It's fine. You deserve a better man than him." She comforted feebly, knowing how unconvincing it sounded. Is there a better man than Spencer Davidson? They both thought.
