268 Chapter 268: She Sounded So Helpless

Mrs. Davidson looked at the questioner for a little while. She looked sad and alone. "He doesn't know. It's between his father and myself. We are all adults, and we are capable of solving problems of our own. Spencer loves both his father and me, and I don't want him to feel that he has to take sides."

Some reporters found it difficult to believe. Didn't she ask Spencer? Did she make the decision on her own? Hmmm, she's much stronger-minded than I expected.

"You requested to have half of the family property. Don't you think you are asking too much?" A male journalist picked up the courage and asked boldly. Half of the Davidson's family property was a sum that not common people would even dare to dream about. People also thought about the announcement Curt made about dividing the family property a few days ago and couldn't help wondering if it was related.

It would cause such a mess in the family.

"Too much?" Mrs. Davidson's face went pale. She looked terribly upset. "Am I not supposed to have half of it? I'm his spouse. He was the one on the wrong, I could have asked for two-third of it. But considering that he's the father of my son, I decided to compromise. Also..."

Mrs. Davidson grew more and more emotional, and tears filled her eyes. Her lawyer noticed and interrupted instantly, "I'm afraid Mrs. Davidson is getting a bit emotional, and will you please excuse us." He said to the reporters politely and clearly, then gently to Mrs. Davidson, "Mrs. Davidson, shall we take you home?"

The bodyguards protected Mrs. Davidson from the persistent reporters who kept running after them, questioning.

"Mrs. Davidson, are you not going to change your mind at all?"

"What does Mr. Davidson say about it?"

The car drove off and left the curious reporters behind.

Then Mrs. Davidson's phone rang. Looking at the familiar name and number on the phone, Mrs. Davidson heaved a sigh, and as if with great effort, she answered.

"Susan, what the hell are you doing?" The voice sounded familiar yet at the same time so strange. Mrs. Davidson heard the anger and anxiousness in his voice, and she smiled helplessly. He called her by her name, Susan. She couldn't recall when was the last time he called her.

"Dear Mr. Curt Davidson, I'm so flattered. It's the first time you've phoned me in over a decade. What a surprise!" Mrs. Davidson said calmly.

Curt was shocked. What had happened to the gentle and obedient woman he'd known for years? How did she just change?

"What's happened to you? Can't we just talk it over? Do you have to make such a big scene?" Curt said dejectedly.

Curt felt his head aching terribly. "I will meet you at your home. I will be right there." He hung up.

Mrs. Davidson looked out of the window, holding the phone tight in her hand, her face pale.

As soon as the car pulled over at the gate, and Mrs. Davidson got out of the car, Nathalia came over anxiously. "Mum, how are you? I've just heard the news."

Nathalia was studying at the library after class, and as soon as she heard the news, she rushed home. She couldn't believe it. Mum loves him. She loves him so much that she's given up a lot. It's not like her. She's changed too suddenly. And she didn't even say anything before.

Mrs. Davidson looked pale and exhausted as if she'd just come off a long battle. She almost fainted, and Nathalia quickly supported her. "Mum, you ok?" She asked worriedly.

"I'm ok. I just realized that it's meaningless, all this waiting and being passive. He's never cared about me; he's never respected me. I'm tired of waiting, and I'm tired of living life passively." She said with a defeated smile.

She'd had enough. She had lost herself waiting, hoping. She had lost self-respect. And he would never change.

It wasn't an easy decision for her to make at all. She felt the great pressure in her heart, on her shoulders, but she knew that she couldn't be selfish and passive anymore for the sake of her son.

There was a lot that Nathalia wanted to say, but she was too confused to know where to start. "But...Spencer..." She didn't dare to think about how Spencer would react. Though he hated his father, it was because he loved him, because he cared.

They went into the lift. Looking at herself in the mirror in the lift, Mrs. Davidson saw a pale, lost self, like a puppet without control of her own life. After a while, she answered, "I will have to rely on you with Spencer. You are the only one that can calm him down and balance him."

She sounded so helpless.

Tears filled Nathalia's eyes. It must be a difficult decision for mum.

Mrs. Davidson almost collapsed onto the sofa as soon as they got home. Nathalia quickly went into the kitchen and made some tea. "Mum, I know it's hard, but you have to really think it over. I don't want you to regret later on." Nathalia said gently.

Mrs. Davidson held her hand and looked her into her eyes, "Nathalia, I've thought it over for over a decade. Do you..." she paused for a bit, then continue uncertainty, "Do you support me?" Like a little kid lost and isolated, she looked worried and scared.

"As long as you are following your heart, you have all my support, mum. I love you, and I want you to be happy." Nathalia hugged her tightly, tears in her eyes. Everyone has their own battle to fight in their life. However hard it is, one has to go on. Mum's fighting hers.

Tears ran down Mrs. Davidson's face. "Thanks, Nathalia. I'm so grateful that I have you with me."

"I'm always with you, mum. I love you."

Just then, the bell rang. Mrs. Davidson dried her eyes and said to Nathalia, "It's him. Nathalia, would you please stay in the room. I'd like to talk to him privately."

Nathalia understood that she'd better leave them alone. She went into the room quietly, but worried, she stood behind the door, ready to run out to help if anything happened.

Mrs. Davidson checked on herself in the mirror for a bit, heaved a sigh, then went and opened the door.

Curt stormed in furiously. "Where's Spencer?! How dare he come up with such an idea?! I'm his father!" He yelled. Just because I'm giving one-third of the property to Matt, he's now asking his mother to divorce me! Curt assumed. He's embarrassed me!

Mrs. Davidson sneered and said, "What did Spencer do? He had no idea that I went to the court that I'm divorcing you. I'm not like you, merciless to your own son. I don't want him involved. This is between you and me."
