271 Chapter 271: She Stayed Strong And Positive

There was a light that never went out. She was the light. She saw the light.

Nathalia blushed bashfully. "Thank you, Spencer. I'm grateful that I've met you. I'm very lucky."

Spencer felt comforted greatly. "Do you still hate him? Your father?" He asked tentatively.

"No. I don't think so. I don't think of him anymore. It's the past." Nathalia said calmly.

She used to hate Frank and his wife and children. She wished she could ruin him and everything he had. And she did it. He had lost the company, what he was proud of the most, his once beautiful wife, and his most arrogant son. She had won the battle, and she had let go.

The wind was blowing hard tonight. The leaves danced frantically and rather loudly.

The next day, the sun was out, and the sky was clear after a windy night. Nathalia had asked for a few days' leave so she could stay at the hospital and be with Mrs. Davidson while Spencer could go to work.

Spencer hesitated, then thought about what he had to deal with, and cheered himself up. Be a man and be strong. The family needs me. He told himself.

"Just call me whenever you need me, ok?" He said gently to Nathalia, gave her a hug, and kissed her goodbye.

As soon as he walked out of the hospital, he was surrounded by a group of journalists who had been waiting there all night.

"It's said that your mother got beaten. Is it true? Who hit her? Is she terribly injured?"

Spencer looked annoyed and remained silent. His assistant replied instead, "There's nothing to tell." However, the journalists were persistent. "Mrs. Davidson got injured just right after she went to court. Does it have anything to do with it? Is it Mr. Curt Davidson that hit her?"

One had to say that the journalists were not stupid at all, and they saw the connection straight away. "There's nothing to tell." They were given the same answer.

The bodyguards managed to keep the journalists in the distance from Spencer, who looked exhausted and sleep-deprived.

"Mr. Spencer Davidson, how do you feel? Are you worried about your mother? What do you think about your parents getting divorced?"

Finally, Spencer spoke, "I don't want to talk about it."

He got into the car and drove off.

"Poor Mrs. Davidson. Who would expect that Mr. Curt Davidson would ever hit women? And it's his wife!"

"I didn't know he's a violent man." The journalists watched the car leave and went on talking, or to be exact, gossiping.

"It's all about money, isn't it?"

"Yeah. If I were him, I would not give away half the property either."

"True. True. One would think that Mrs. Davidson is the luckiest woman marrying such a successful man, but the truth is another story."

As soon as Matt heard what happened, he went to see Curt. "Dad, what happened? Why? Why did you hit her? It's not good for you. They will probably use it in court, and the judge will..." Matt knew the law very well, and he understood how some cases were decided by how the judge liked or disliked the plaintiff or the defendant.

Curt hadn't slept all night. He looked drained and worried. "Is this what you came here to tell me?" He snapped, looking annoyed.

Spencer recalled vividly how he could only watch his mother getting hit when he was little. He was just a kid and couldn't help. And now again, he failed to protect her.

It made him angry. He felt like punching the wall. Why couldn't I help her? Why is she hurt again? She's been through so much.

Tears filled Nathalia's eyes, "I'm the one that's useless. I was there. I was there, and still I couldn't stop it. Spencer, do you blame me?" she said timidly. She watched it happen, and she felt so remorseful.

Spencer turned to look at Nathalia instantly, "Babe, it's not your fault at all. On the contrary, I'm so grateful that you were there with mum. I can't imagine what would have happened if you were not there." Matt hugged her tightly.

"I saw him hit mum and mum fell, and her head hit the corner of the chair, and, and the blood...so much blood..." Nathalia recalled, and her little body shivered. It was a shock to her.

Spencer felt her fear and squeezed her gently. "Let's not think about the awful memories. Mum will be fine." He said gently and pecked a kiss on her head.

Nathalia shook her head slightly as if to shake away the thoughts. "Right. Mum will be fine. Now, would you please eat something? I got you your favorite BLT sandwich. You remembered last time how the three of us wolfed down the sandwiches together?" Nathalia said with a smile.

"Hahaha. I do. And yes, BLT sounds delicious." Spencer patted Nathalia's nose cheekily.

Just then, the door flew open. "Mummy! Spencer! What happened to mummy? How is she? Who hurt her?" Anna rushed in and asked hurriedly.

"Did you hurt mum?" Then she spotted Nathalia and pointed the finger at her instantly.

Spencer frowned at the sight of Anna. Again! How the hell did she come in? Didn't the bodyguards stop her?

"Nonsense." Spencer retorted.

Anna glared at Nathalia and went to bend down next to Mrs. Davidson. "Mummy. Mummy. It's Anna." She cried dramatically.

Does she have to be so dramatic all the time? Nathalia thought.

Spencer was about to kick Anna out when a familiar voice came from the door, "Spencer, how's your mum? What did the doctor say?"

A very well dressed middle-aged lady walked in gracefully.

Spencer's eyes lit up. "Aunt Emma! What brought you here?! What a surprise!" He exclaimed and gave her a hug. So Anna came in with aunt Emma. No wonder.

Nathalia was rather curious. She could tell that Spencer was rather close to aunt Emma. However, she didn't recall hearing Spencer mention her.

One couldn't really tell aunt Emma's age. Her attire and the expensive jewelry that adorned her, as well as her mannerism, suggested that she was a woman of fame and grace.

She and mum do look alike in some way, but they are so different at the same time. Mum is gentle and can be weak while she looks rather bossy, though graceful at the same time. I prefer my mum. Gentle and kind. Nathalia thought to herself.
