Nie Wuying heard Jinxun’s report too and knew that Song Yixiao was leaving the feast so as to talk with her mother. She would not stop her for sure. Then she nodded her head and said, “Okay. I will look after myself. Mother and Sister Qingjiang are at the feast too!”
Song Yixiao put down the cup and left quietly with Jinxun.
When they went out, the overwhelming cold air made Song Yixiao and her maid tighten the clothes and feel clear-minded!
Song Yixiao asked, “Which maid is the one who delivered the message to you? Did she mention what my mother wanted to talk about?”
“I don’t know her name,” Jinxun replied with embarrassment. “But I know she is one of the Princess Consort’s maids. As to what Her Highness wants to talk about, she didn’t mention it at all. She just came by and said a few words before leaving.”
“Is that so?” Song Yixiao narrowed her eyes and said as if thinking of something. “Recently we have seldom had contact with my mother, so we are even unfamiliar with her maids!”
Jinxun realized that she acted too rashly. Even though the messenger came and went hurriedly, she should have inquired more before she reported to Song Yixiao!
She blushed in shame and was about to apologize when Song Yixiao shook her head and said, “Anyway, let’s wait in the dressing room first!”
“What will be, will be!” She said calmly.
For the moment Jinxun didn’t understand what she meant. After a while, they didn’t meet Wei Mengying in the side hall for dressing up. Instead, they got to see Cui Jianlian, who was teetering towards them with a swollen belly.
“Surprise, huh?” The minute that Cui Jianlian walked across the threshold, her maid Xiaoman immediately closed the door and locked it.
With her hand rested on Xiaoman’s, she walked to the table slowly and sat on a chair. Then she glanced at Song Yixiao with disdain, saying, “You were expecting your mother and now I am here?”
“Dowager Consort of Hengshan doesn’t like me and my mother for a long time. Why would I feel surprised that she did you a favor?” Unexpectedly, Jinxun looked astonished while Song Yixiao was still calm and peaceful, who also took a sip of the tea, saying, “Do you think that I would feel set up by my mother only because of a maid?”
Cui Jianlian heard her questioning and slightly narrowed her eyes. She didn’t ask in surprise until a while later, “You knew that something wrong was with the maid?”
“Of course I did.” Song Yixiao put the tea bowl on the table and rolled her bracelet, saying with a grin. “As a saying goes, the daughter knows her mother best. Even if I seldom meet my mom these days, I won’t be coaxed by your little trick!”
Her mother always knew how to protect herself!
Even if she had something to discuss with Song Yixiao, she would never propose meeting in the imperial palace! Otherwise, if their meeting was found by others, they would be considered to be exchanging secret messages in the guise of distancing from each other. If the Crown Prince failed to take over the power one day, Wei Mengying would get into trouble then!
However, Song Yixiao didn’t have to tell this to Cui Jianlian.
Song Yixiao giggled. “I don’t understand on what ground you must create difficulties for me again and again. After all, it is you who owe me big and I don’t owe you anything. Isn’t it?”
“I owe you?” Cui Jianlian questioned and suddenly laughed with cold eyes. “You are sitting here, well and healthy. How dare you say that I owe you?”
Song Yixiao sneered, “Doesn’t a maid matter?”
“I didn’t mean to hurt your maid at that time!” Cui Jianlian straightened her sleeves disdainfully. “If it were not for you, why would the maid become disabled?”
“I’m impressed that you can call white black and black white so confidently. Indeed, you are as shameless as you were back then!” Song Yixiao clenched her hands in the sleeves and then loosened them, saying with a grin. “No wonder the Empress Dowager taught you a lesson at the Lantern Festival Feast so that you would know how to behave well as a concubine.”
Upon hearing the word “concubine”, Cui Jianlian flew into a rage immediately!
Then she shouted, gnashing and grinding her teeth, “I am never as shameless as you and your mother! If you hadn’t expelled me back home and I could have met with my cousin, how could I have become like this? You’ve ruined my life. How dare you say that I owe you? It is you who owe me big!”
Song Yixiao laughed in anger, “You are such a vicious woman that even if you spend every day with Guanlun or just stay in a room with him all day long, he will surely kick you out! Those who haven’t seen your true colors may be captivated by your beauty; however, if your evil heart is disclosed, no one will fall for you at all!”
She stared at Cui Jianlian coldly and snapped, “All that you’ve suffered by today is the fruit of your evil doings! No matter how miserable you get, you just deserve it!”
“What about you?” Extremely raged, Cui Jianlian calmed herself down instead and then asked, “Are you a good person? You’ve been raised in Prince of Hengshan’s mansion and even started off from the mansion on your wedding day. And you still help your mother scheme over the position of the heir of Prince of Hengshan! Why can you marry a good husband and live happily?”
“That’s why you keep badgering me!” Song Yixiao burst out laughing. “You are simply jealous of me living well after getting married while you cannot marry Guanlun.”
She rolled her jade bracelet and looked up, asking, “But even though you dislike me, what can you do?”
“You’ve known that the maid was up to something but you still came here to wait for me. You thought that I couldn’t do anything to you anyway?” Cui Jianlian stared at her coldly and questioned scornfully. “And you wanted to take the chance to mock me?”
Song Yixiao said with pleasure, “You are finally smart for once!”
“I didn’t expect the maid to make it flawlessly!” Cui Jianlian was not angry with Song Yixiao’s words. Instead, she cast a glance at the latter as if looking at a dead person, saying with disdain, “I’m glad you are here anyway, no matter why you came!”
While speaking, she lowered her head slowly. Song Yixiao and her maid followed her sight and saw that the dark red bloodstain appeared and got more and more on her dark blue dress!
“Ah!” Jinxun shouted with her hands covering her mouth and her pretty face getting pale. “Your… Your baby…”
“You are one of the craziest people that I have ever met in my life!” Song Yixiao didn’t look well but her eyes didn’t show any panic. She said calmly, “You are hurting your twin babies! And you are six months pregnant now! You hurt them only to get revenge on me? How dare you? I wonder what the Noble Consort and the Crown Prince will think of you when they find out the truth.”
Cui Jianlian grabbed the table edge and endured the more and more severe pain from the belly, snorting, “But they will never find it out! I am more intrigued to know how Duke of Yan will think of you. Oh, maybe it is not necessary at all. Her Majesty the Empress Dowager loves him so dearly that she will never allow his wife to hold him back. I suppose that you are not even 15 years old, are you? Pity on you! Like Sikong Yiluo, your life will come to an end!”
Song Yixiao noticed that Cui Jianlian glanced over her skirt hem and subconsciously gripped her napkin tightly, “You Qingchun?”
“How do you feel about being betrayed by the daughter of your foster nurse?” Cui Jianlian was delighted to hear Song Yixiao’s question rather than being surprised. Then she said joyfully, “It is said that you are not close to your mother and consider your foster nurse as half a mother. However, sadly, she loves her daughter more! Otherwise, why would Ms. Zhao let someone do something to your clothes?”
“You deliberately tried to make me suspect my mother and then feel disappointed about my foster nurse. How interesting!” Song Yixiao puckered her lips and said grinningly. “Let me guess. You didn’t want to be a concubine of the Crown Prince but your family forced you to, especially your parents, right? Otherwise, why do you try every means to make me have a taste of being betrayed by seniors?”
Then she smiled with evil intention and said in a sweet tone, “Unfortunately, your trick doesn’t work! But it is fated too. You are such a young girl who doesn’t value one’s life and you just deserve to be taken as a counter only by your family!”
“Bi*ch!” Song Yixiao’s last sentence hit a sore spot of Cui Jianlian, so Cui Jianlian didn’t feel like talking anymore. Then she threw the table cloth and tea set on the ground, and winked at Xiaoman. Xiaoman took the hint and yelled, “Help! Help! Her Highness the Side Concubine is not feeling well!”
Jinxun looked at what was happening before them in terror, anger and loss. “Your Highness, what shall we do now?”
“Her Highness the Side Concubine puts on such a show at the cost of her unborn baby. She is risking her life too!” Song Yixiao only stared at the blood on the ground without turning her head to her, saying casually, “It is such a good show that I must finish watching it.”
She touched her hair and smiled mockingly.
After a while, the Crown Princess arrived in a hurry and saw the blood under Cui Jianlian’s dress in shock. “Where is the doctor? Have anyone sent for a doctor?”
Song Yixiao rose and curtsied to her, saying calmly, “Your Highness, a eunuch has just left and sent for the doctor.”
“Luckily, you are here!” The Crown Princess felt relieved and nodded her head at her gratefully. Unexpectedly, Xiaoman suddenly whimpered, “Your Highness, why do you thank her? If it were not for her, Her Highness the Side Concubine would not be like this!”
“What?” The Crown Princess was astonished and then glanced at Song Yixiao only to find that the latter looked her in the eye. Then she couldn’t help frowning and reproached Xiaoman disgruntledly, “Your mistress is feeling miserably bad now. How can you talk nonsense rather than serve her well? Lady of Yan has no grudge against Jianlian. How can she hurt Jianlian?”
Then she went forward and hold Cui Jianlian’s hand, “Jianlian, how are you feeling now? Hang in there and the doctor is arriving soon!”
“I know your sister is close to Song Yixiao!” Suddenly, Cui Jianlian, who was breathing weakly with closed eyes and a pale face, opened her eyes and let go of the Crown Princess’s hand, saying bleakly, “But you and I serve His Highness the Crown Prince together, for which we should be closer to each other. No matter how you show partiality for your sister, how can you still defend Song Yixiao now? In this case, why do you send for a doctor? I may as well die now!”
The Crown Princess sensed something wrong and was slightly angry, “I can’t follow you now.”
Then she rose and looked at Song Yixiao, “Can you tell us what happened just now so that we don’t have any misunderstanding?”
Song Yixiao squinted at Cui Jianlian’s cold face, saying calmly, “Even if you didn’t ask me to, I would talk about it after Side Concubine Cui’s condition got stable.”
She sneered. “After all, it is my huge honor to marry Xubai but we are married and certified by the clan organization. Now I cannot just agree on divorcing easily!”
For the moment, not only the Crown Princess felt shocked but also Cui Jianlian, who was confident, now was struck dumbfounded. When did she ask Song Yixiao to get a divorce? She only wanted Song Yixiao to go to hell!
“Wait!” Cui Jianlian pondered and suddenly thought of something. Instantly, her face turned ghastly pale!
