Chapter 174 - Mistake

Her words stopped Li Feng dead in his tracks. Even those who were getting up stopped. Qiao Shan only focused on Li Feng's somewhat-angry frown like she was at fault for not letting him know anything before they encountered the thing. However, Ruan Jin flashed his open palm to sever Li Feng's line of sight. "Dude, it's part of our orientation. Everyone in RS Noah was given insights about the Kings."

"They were willing?" Li Feng then cast the glare in Ruan Jin's direction, even if his face was still turned towards Qiao Shan. It was because he didn't know if Ruan Jin was just concocting lies just so he wouldn't talk Qiao Shan down. Without Li Feng, the people in this group could have all died. The mere fact that Qiao Shan said 'live ones' meant that they had found the dead first.

"They were forced to. Someone directly asked them about the Kings, and that Qiao Yun was too fl.u.s.tered to get things down. In the end, she could only tell us about the Kings. However, since they were A.K.A. accidents to this place, they didn't place any guards against them." Ruan Jin wasn't new to Li Feng's aggressive stance. Tang Ernian was bolder in that aspect. "Aside from that stupid barrier, I guess."

Li Feng only took a few breaths before softening his stance. He even stepped back from Qiao Shan. "So who's this God Raven?" He said that, but he walked past Qiao Shan and the other mediums with them. However, he stopped as he stared directly at Ye Ling's eyes. She was concealed in the darkness, but Li Feng was one of Liu Xiaodan's 'children'. He could detect her easily.

Ruan Jin pouted angrily, but he couldn't blame Li Feng. There was blood on Li Feng, and they saw bodies that had big holes on them. The shaman must have dealt with watching people die under his gaze… when he could be more cautious if he knew anything about the Kings. It wasn't about Qiao Shan lying to him; it was the expense of the secrecy that Li Feng accounted for.

"It's like, uh… he's the second-strongest King in the facility, after that Abaddon." Ruan Jin decided to speak as he took a walk towards Li Feng. He had a feeling that Li Feng was still looking for someone to receive his anger, and this little Ye Ling was trying to mock and intimidate him for brushing Ruan Jin off. "Come on, man, calm down for a bit. If fistfights can fix this, I will punch you first."

"Second-strongest?" Li Feng scoffed, moving his line of sight away from Ye Ling and back to Ruan Jin. "That's funny to think because it ran like a wuss when Guangru arrived. Just how strong could these Kings be, huh?"

"Li Feng, that's enough." Chuan Nayi patted his shoulder as if f.o.r.c.i.b.l.y calming him down. "Let's argue later. It's cold, dark, and dangerous here. Let's go out." She only eyed Ruan Jin as Li Feng decided to move ahead again. The materialized ghosts blocking his path parted like the sea their project's namesake divided.

The rest had no choice but to proceed in silence. None of the people in the two groups spoke, aside from that girl from the Qiao family who was giving Li Feng directions as he led the big group. Soon, they located a door, and the navigator took out a key and unlocked the door. Even that very action made the psychics angry. The other group had a key while they were supposed to stay three hours in a hellhole.

Bright lights shone on Li Feng's face, but his expression was still dark. When he got out, they were actually greeted by Dr. Tang, Tang Liang, and some other researchers. Those who were in charge of the operation didn't show up, forcing the doc.u.ment wing to take on the brunt of their complaints. However, Li Feng only walked past all of them. They couldn't even talk as well since it felt like Li Feng would eat them after a word.

"That aura..." Dr. Tang whispered with a frown after Li Feng had entered the Lodging Hall. "It's the same as Xiaodan's. Find data about that guy just now." He ordered Tang Liang, but Tang Liang didn't have to do that just to convince his uncle. All he had to say was this: "That's his cousin, Li Feng."

"...the Mian descendant?" Dr. Tang twitched.

Lunch in the cafeteria was very uncomfortable. Aside from a few RS Noah mediums and Chuan Nayi, everyone else was just staring at their food. It was just a few hours after they clashed with a dangerous King as it was called. Moreover, aside from the big group that huddled together, everyone else from RS Moses died. This in itself made the mediums scared of their test later.

Li Feng walked into the cafeteria and easily located Chuan Nayi, Ruan Jin, and Qiao Shan within the wide cafeteria. His eyes quivered as he paused before picking up his tray of food. He still went to eat with them… but he stood before the table first. In a low and apologetic tone, he spoke: "About earlier… I am sorry. I was upset."

Ruan Jin and Qiao Shan looked up at him, and the former nudged at the latter's knee. Li Feng was apologizing to her in particular. Qiao Shan, knowing that this would happen again, only looked down at her plate. Since she didn't give a real answer, Li Feng had no idea if she was accepting it. 

"Li Feng, sit down." Chuan Nayi sighed. She waited for him to put his tray down as well. "Are you forgetting that the Qiao family has their own agenda for doing these experiments? Why would you think they will tell everyone the real thing that each will be facing? For all I know, we might be just here to feed those things. Though thank you for apologizing to Qiao Shan."

"But it's too much." Qiao Shan couldn't even pick up her chopsticks. "I don't really deserve his apology at all. Those Kings… they had been here for so long. I should have told everyone about them before we started. As for the specifics, aside from their ranking, I don't know much about their abilities. Perhaps that information is only available here in the facility."

"...the decision not to warn us lied in the responsibility of the supervisor. Blaming you for it just because you're an insider… that's my mistake. It's not your obligation to force us to plan for these tests." Li Feng felt strange. He was supposed to be the one apologizing, but he ended up forgiving the very person to whom he was apologizing.

"L-Let's just talk about it some other time." Li Feng grew frustrated and gave his meat strips to Qiao Shan. "For now, you should eat. Our test has already gone south. I wish you will be luckier than us! Here, have all the meat. I'm okay with vegetables."
