Chapter 234 - No Game to Play

Still human?

Chu Youlan looked up at Liu Xiaodan and wondered what he meant by that. Was he saying that Red Justice must completely lose her humanity to be the final product? Then again, she wasn't really sure what exactly Qiao Shan had to lose. Being human… what actually constituted being human?

Bang! They saw Qiao Shan get thrown away, just past them. Chu Youlan was shocked. The power output of this project should be higher than Abaddon, but why was she being overpowered by a simple Mo Xingli? Did that mean that Mo Xingli's companion was stronger than Abaddon now? No, that couldn't be the case.

"...dammit… why…? Why?!" Qiao Shan started to roar and growl as she got into a crouch. She couldn't fully make use of her power to defeat a simple King. She was able to save Li Feng from Abaddon earlier, but why couldn't she take down such a small thing now?

"You're not thinking." Liu Xiaodan turned to the side, looking past his shoulder to find the form of the blood-red girl. "Whatever you're using isn't your own. You have to clear your mind to control it."

Qiao Shan darted her glare at the father, her beautiful face distorted into a monster's right now. There were red marks on her face, her blood dripping from the scars on her cheeks. "Clear my mind? Demons are fueled by anger. I have lots and lots of anger. It should have been enough to draw out Hongfei's power!"

A sigh came from Liu Xiaodan and looked at the crazed girl and her wriggling companion. Even a transcendent like him still grimaced at the disgust it was making him feel. However, he still spoke to Qiao Shan softly—his eyes stuck at the enemy, "Qiao Shan… we're not demons. We only borrow that power. Will you be angry alone if you find Li Feng being swallowed by that thing? Won't you clear your thoughts to make sure he'll be safe?"

"I..." Qiao Shan was shocked. Right, she managed to do that earlier with Abaddon. The girl then got to her feet. "If you continue helping me like this, you will regret it, Xiaodan. I once thought that I need you in my Qiao family, and now, I might have to kill you. In the long run, I will become Red Justice and trample you…

"Won't you regret it?"

Liu Xiaodan actually laughed out, but it was rather bitter. "Don't worry, when you become Red Justice, I might be looking at an empty shell. There will be no more you to think about. Without a mind of your own, what is there for me to be scared of?"

A sharp gasp came from Qiao Shan as she was blatantly underestimated by this father. Hades might be the one with the most power output, but he shouldn't be looking down on her. Didn't he just say he was around God Raven's strength? How powerful could he only be?

However, Qiao Shan decided to focus on Mo Xingli again. She loathed this child for killing her Hop, and she couldn't shake off the thoughts of wrangling her in pieces. It's just that, since they were both not moving, Mo Xingli decided to attack first. The wrangled beast scatted all over and rained upon them with their horrendous mouths. Qiao Shan jumped forward, trying her stunts again.

Clack, clack. Chuan Nayi's eyes fluttered slowly as she sat on the couch in the sophisticated-looking office. Two men in soldier uniforms were behind her, and she was evidently being detained. However, unlike Tang Liang who was cuffed behind his back, she was freely crossing her arms on her c.h.e.s.t. The clacking noises were coming from Wu Zhong's shoes… as he paced before the couch back and forth.

He didn't want to let go of these two hostages, but they seemed to be very problematic. Wu Zhong knew that the demon child wouldn't be able to come here to the Administrative Hall, but he didn't want to risk it… especially when Qiao Muwei had yet to respond to him. He then looked down at the beautiful girl who refused to look higher than her eye level and then at that man who just hung his head down.

"Are you really holding my nephew responsible for this?" Tang Zhenluo spoke as he continued to scan the cameras that showed them the Rooms Hall… or what was left of what they could access. Some connections had been severed by remotely turning off the cameras.

"Isn't he the one doing the work for her? Nayi is already talented in her field. Should I believe their lies that all of these were her work?" Wu Zhong only hummed as he stopped and turned to the doctor who didn't even seem scared for his nephew. He then regarded the pistol in his hand and aimed at Tang Liang who only shuddered at the action. "Tell me, Dr. Tang, if I shoot your nephew, what would you do?"

"What can I do?" Tang Zhenluo turned to him and shifted his weight to face him, his eagle eyes staring up at the man. However, even from a lower angle, the doctor looked so arrogant. "Do you think I'd just sit here and cry? Dr. Fan is your slave, but don't think I'd do the same as her. Listen to me, Mr. Wu. I hope you have already exported everything you need. I really think the demon child is not your only enemy here."

The old man then lowered his aim and shot Tang Liang's t.h.i.g.h. The man cried out from pain, and Chuan Nayi gasped at the matter. She wanted to help him, but one of the soldiers grabbed her shoulder to keep her from moving from her spot.

Wu Zhong then aimed at the doctor. "Do you think I don't know that? What do you want to achieve by letting Li Heilong's people inside this facility, Dr. Tang? Didn't you know that you were the one who destroyed this very thing you were protecting?"

A raised brow was the only answer Tang Zhenluo gave him. "Me? I wasn't the one who approved of their application. I only appraised the skill level and qualifications of the new doctor to look after our patients. If you think that I'm the one responsible, then why did you shoot my nephew?"

"Do you really think I'm playing with you?"

"There's no game to play, Mr. Wu." Tang Zhenluo huffed and raised his chin as if encouraging the man to shoot his neck. "This is not a game; this is war. If you don't move correctly, you will die."

Wu Zhong then aimed at the nephew again, and Tang Zhenluo's eyes only gazed at Tang Liang and glistened apologetically as if he had failed this nephew of his. When Wu Zhong was about to pull the trigger, a nurse opened the door. She then spoke immediately, "Mr. Wu, Master Qiao is on the phone." It was too late for her to gasp as she saw the gun pointed at Tang Liang.

How lucky...
