Chapter 270 - Onto the Next

When the captain saw that the soldiers couldn't hold it off, he made the decision to ferry the survivors to safety. Li Heilong could only blame him for choosing the lesser evil. The boat moved away with the captain's heart sinking, but the other mercenaries even kept on signaling him to go faster.

Du Zhizhuo actually jumped off at the last second. He barely used his ammo. If they needed a little more firepower, he would help his brothers. The soldiers left behind started to cover for the others. However, they had no idea how to kill the thing exactly.

"What is that?" Chuan Nayi narrowed her eyes. Soon, a final one emerged, and she actually had three heads in her arms. All of them were men, but only Du Zhizhuo recognized all of those faces: one was code name Seven, the other was Director Sun's designated bodyguard, and the last one was the captain of the elite guards.

"Something we have the misfortune to meet." Jiu Yuanli saw that the bullets and shells did so little to her. That wasn't a King. It's probably one of the demons of the Black March. Damn, for him to actually die in a rather stinky place. The only consolation was probably having his head collected by that demon maiden.

He wouldn't such a thing if they didn't see how one of the copies managed to chop off one of the heads and presented it to the real thing. She then murmured in a voice of a shy maiden, "...ugly."

Chuan Nayi and Jiu Yuanli were the only ones who didn't have a gun, and so they had to stand back. However, there was no safety in just staying still. The demon was freely butchering whoever they got close to. It's just that… the copies stopped all of a sudden. They then slowly backed away as if cautious of the shadow cast by the tree next to Chuan Nayi. The soldiers had also backed away past the shadow, feeling strange as if they were saved.

"Why retreat, little girl? I'm not even as powerful as you..." The Mother was actually waiting with Chuan Nayi. She still had hopes of finding Guangru again and collecting a prize for keeping his Mama Nayi safe. Moreover, the dead forest spirit had known Guangru way before she died out and he rebelled. Their sense of camaraderie endured the test of time as the Mother wanted to see how things end for Guangru's search for parents.

"...dybbuk smell… repulsive..."

The voice of the woman murmured as the copies came back to her. The maiden demon then looked up at the Mother creeping from the shadow of the tree. "Hard fight… no like… handsome head, you want?" She wanted to pick up one of the heads, but she couldn't choose which one to let go of. She then repeated in a strange tone as if hoping that the Mother would decline. "...you want…?"

"You can keep your handsome heads, dearie. Let me keep these live ones instead..." The Mother didn't know why the rather stronger demon was bribing her… to let the maiden off. In terms of the pecking order, the Mother should be on the ground bleeding in their fight.

"Yingxia remembers…" the maiden demon looked at the soldiers and seemed to be pissed that she had to peel off the helmet first before knowing if she wanted their heads. "Directive… kill all living..."

The Mother moved to block her view, attracting the mirror maiden's gaze again. "There will be a hard fight if you continue. Just assume that we have all gone away..."

Yingxia, the mirror maiden—or what she called herself, blinked her single eye. "...can't go... directive..." However, the inconspicuous black band on her neck trembled. She winced a little and received new directives. She then turned away without another word. Just as peaceful as chaotic when she arrived, the mirror maiden had left as if she had not brought death.

Jiu Yuanli only frowned at the scene. "We should look for a place to hide. In case those fighter planes come to sight. They're already pulling out the demons."

"...that demon…" Chuan Nayi only watched until the maiden demon vanished behind the wall. She had a feeling that the demon had some sort of intelligence, unlike what she expected of them. She thought that the demons of the Black March would be crazed creatures. Actually, she hoped that they were. At the back of her mind, she figured this slight intelligence would charm Liu Xiaodan into liberating them.

She couldn't believe that she had become like this. She used to classify entities into what would kill her and what wouldn't. Right now, it was more of what would Liu Xiaodan befriend and what he would feed to his friends. Sigh, was this the real expense of falling in love with something that he had become?

"Is there anything you need from him?" Guangru asked in his low howling voice, the noise coming out of him not befitting his sweet child visage. However, the ancient demon didn't care anymore. He had already lost his father, and he might have to accept that one day… he had to move on and find another.

"...the head please. As proof." A sweet smile curled Qiao Shan's lips as she asked for something rather impossible. Bang! Bang! Bang! Multiple wh.i.p.s of wooden vines broke out from the ground, and Qiao Shan gracefully evaded them. She summoned the red cloth and the red dress behind her before launching an attack.

The ancient demon growled in all animosity as the wooden vines had grown so aggressive. Guangru even left the body down and moved his small physical body to vent out his anger. A wooden husk went to safeguard the body as the ancient demon continued to go on a rampage. Some wooden vines began to crawl and pierce through the walls of the room on the deepest floor of the facility.

Causing heavy structural damage, the ancient demon seemed like it was planning to bury itself with his father in the rubble of the Treatment Hall… along with everyone in it!

"Oh, shit!" Li Feng ran to the husk, but Mian Qingwei actually went to attack him again. However, he could only evade and wobble at the tremor caused by the wriggling wooden wines. The female transcendent actually struck at the husk, breaking it with her most powerful attack. She also did so when Li Feng was parkouring past it.

He actually fell inside. Li Feng rolled to the side to find a place that Mian Qingwei couldn't reach. However, he felt his body froze when he saw the state of Liu Xiaodan. It… it really looked like he was never going to come back. "...dammit… Xiaodan..."

Mian Qingwei climbed the husk that was a meter tall from the ground. She wanted to use her very own hands in tearing through Li Feng's body. However, she actually found Liu Xiaodan—the man who beat her up. Anger boiled in her body as she made use of her hand and stabbed mercilessly at the already dead cadaver!

"I will—!" Mian Qingwei was about to scream how much she would enjoy ripping Liu Xiaodan's body apart, but a loud gunshot actually echoed. Before she could say more, a hole appeared on her forehead. She also fell in, bleeding on top of Liu Xiaodan.

"Onto the next..." A grin tore open his lips.
