307 Night Disturbance
In a daze, he seemed to have returned to the time when he was in the cave.
After such a long time, Zhao Zhan’s heart would still beat rapidly as he held Yue Jiaojiao.
“The puppies can eat on their own now. I’ll go to Li Miao’s house tomorrow and bring them over.”
Since he wasn’t around, he had to find something to make his lover happy.
“I wonder how tall those two little pups will be when I come back.”
“They might reach your calf when you’re back.”
The two of them embraced each other in the dark. They were clearly chit-chatting, but the air was filled with an inseparable aura.
“Listen,” Yue Jiaojiao nudged Zhao Zhan, “The people outside are probably preparing to leave. Go and take a look and send Wagler and the others off. In a few days, you’ll follow them to the desert. You’ll have to look out for each other on the way.”
Zhao Zhan held her tightly in his arms and took a deep breath. Then, he reluctantly let her go. Alright, I’ll be back soon.”
“Hurry up and go.”
Zhao Zhan turned around and left.
Madam Qin happened to see his back in the backyard. After some thought, she knocked on the bedroom door. “My lady, the hot water in the kitchen has been kept warm. Do you want me to bring it over for you?”
“It’s late. You should rest early.” Yue Jiaojiao walked to the door. “You don’t have to help me get water.”
The iron plates hanging under the eaves suddenly made ding-dong sounds.
Yue Jiaojiao jumped in shock.
“Is there someone knocking on our door?”
Madam Qin rubbed her arms. “It’s definitely not him. He’s not such a rash person.”
“Let’s go and take a look.”
Yue Jiaojiao entered the study and picked up a dagger that Zhao Zhan had specially gotten someone to make for her. Then, she led Madam Qin to the front yard.
“Doctor Sun?”
Doctor Sun had been woken up from his dream and was in a bad mood. “Why are you out? I’m guarding the front courtyard, what’s going on?”
Yue Jiaojiao hurriedly followed Doctor Sun’s footsteps. Upon seeing this, Madam Qin did not dare to delay and quickly followed suit.
The courtyard door opened from the inside.
Yue Jiaojiao looked at the person lying on the ground and exclaimed, “It’s Fang Tianliu!”
“Hold on.” Doctor Sun stopped them when he saw that Yue Jiaojiao and Madam Qin were about to carry him up.
“We need to see what type of injury he sustained. I don’t want his injury to get worse from more movement. Madam Qin, go into the house and bring two lamps over.”
Madam Qin entered the house in a panic.
“What’s going on?” After sending off Wagler at the village entrance, Zhao Zhan saw the surprised faces of the people in front of his house. He jogged over to Yue Jiaojiao and asked, “Why did you come out?”
“Something happened to Fang Tianliu.”
Yue Jiaojiao pointed at the person lying on the ground. “Doctor Sun is taking his pulse.”
“The oil lamp is here!”
An oil lamp was placed on the ground, and Doctor Sun was holding the other one in his hand, carefully examining Fang Tianliu’s body to see if there were any injuries.
“He must have been surrounded and beaten up before coming here.” Doctor Sun touched all the bones in Fang Tianliu’s body. Seeing that there was no sign of them caving in or being stabbed out, he immediately called Zhao Zhan. “Quick, go to my room and bring out the carrying pole that Jiyan made.”
Zhao Zhan immediately ran over. Zhao Zhan brought the pole over and placed Fang Tianliu on it.
“I’ll carry him into the room with you.”
“Doctor Sun, don’t strain yourself. I’ll do it.”
Doctor Sun’s beard was almost completely white, so Zhao Zhan did not allow him to do the heavy lifting. Fortunately, the bluestone slabs that had been laid in the courtyard were smooth and neat without any bumps.
Zhao Zhan dragged the load all the way to Doctor Sun’s room.
“What’s his situation now?”
“His head should have been hit by a stick. In addition, he didn’t stop to rest and came all the way here immediately. He should have fainted, but seeing that he made it, he must have suffered a lot of damage.”
Fang Tianliu’s body was pierced with many silver needles.
“You guys should go back first. He would need a lot of rest before waking up. Come back tomorrow to see him. There’s no point in staying here all day.”
“I’ll help you look after him.” Zhao Zhan looked at Doctor Sun’s tired eyes. “If anything happens to him in the middle of the night, I’ll let you know.”
“Okay,” Doctor Sun nodded and released his hand. “Wake me up if there’s anything.”
He was an old man, and if he did not rest well, there was no guarantee that he would be accurate when applying the needles.
“Jiaojiao, you and Madam Qin should go back first. I’ll update you about him when you’re awake. Madam Qin, can you warm Jiaojiao’s bed with warm water? She won’t be able to sleep well if it’s too cold.”
Madam Qin nodded obediently. “You can stay here. I’ll get a bowl of noodles for you as well after.”
He had only cared about protecting Yue Jiaojiao during the entire bonfire feast today, so he did not get the chance to eat much.
Now that Yue Jiaojiao had mentioned it, Zhao Zhan felt a little hungry. “Thank you for your troubles.”
“It’s just a small matter. Wait here.”
The night passed.
Doctor Sun had gone back to sleep after applying the medicine last night.
He didn’t sleep much now, so he woke up before the sun rose and changed shifts with Zhao Zhan to guard Fang Tianliu.
“Zhao Zhan…”
An extremely weak voice was heard. Doctor Sun, who was boiling medicine by the door, heard the movement and immediately came over. “You’re finally awake.”
“Doctor Sun,”
Fang Tianliu clutched his head. The moment he moved, the pain was so intense that he wanted to die. He couldn’t help but fall back down. “Doctor Sun, thank you for saving me.”
His lips were so dry that blood oozed out the moment he opened his mouth.
“What happened?” Zhao Zhan, who was lying on the bed, turned over and went to him. “What’s wrong with you? Who hit you?”
“Zhao Zhan!”
Fang Tianliu’s face was also ashen, and his hair was mixed with bits of grass that couldn’t be removed.
When he saw Zhao Zhan, he hugged his shoulders and started wailing, “Zhao Zhan! From now on, Fang Yuan bodyguard agency no longer exists!”
Fang Tianliu cried miserably.
The sound passed through the wall and was clearly heard by Yue Jiaojiao in the backyard.
“Madam Qin, is Tianliu crying?” Yue Jiaojiao placed the book in her hand on the table. “I’ll go to the front yard to see if he’s already awake.”
When Yue Jiaojiao rushed over, Doctor Sun happened to be standing guard in the courtyard.
Seeing her come over, Doctor Sun waved his hand. “I don’t know what happened, but it sounds terrible.”
Fang Tianfu couldn’t stop crying.
Yue Jiaojiao then took a stool and sat by the door, not rashly entering to disturb him.
“Relax…” Zhao Zhan’s clothes were wet. He stuffed a handkerchief into Fang Tianliu’s hands. “Wipe yourself clean, and then tell me what happened in detail.”
“Zhao Zhan…”
Fang Tianliu wiped his face filled with snot on his sleeve.
