Chapter 649 - The Scum Is Fragile

After everyone delivered dinner to Wen Wen and He Shun and talked with them for some time.

"Xiao Bao and xiao Ling said that the Shapeshifting Blanket was also sent to check the perimeter." The talkative Tang Li said. Before Tang Li and Li Yan could answer, someone entered the tent.

"No." it was Wen Yan. His expression is extremely cold.

"Brother…" Wen Wen called.

"What? Feeling aggrieved now?" Wen Yan's eyes narrowed as he stood in front of Wen Wen and crossed his arms.

Wen Wen didn't answer and hung his head in self-blame. If he had just been more careful and didn't leave the camp, this wouldn't have happened.

Wen Yan snorted in disdain. "This serves as a lesson for your willfulness and carelessness!" he said before he stormed off.

Tang Li and Li Yan worriedly looked at Wen Wen when they saw his reddened eyes. But, they saw that Wen Wen is also smiling. Ah, brotherly love! Wen Wen knows that Wen Yan came here because Wen Yan is extremely worried for him. But, since Wen Yan is awkward in expressing his care and love towards his younger brother, he said harsh words to Wen Wen instead.

"Uhm… how about Qi Lan-ge?" He Shun asked as he looked at Tang Li and Li Yan. "Has his condition turned better?" he asked. After all, Qi Lan lost too much blood earlier.

"Yes. Cui Xiang has responded in time and saved his barely hanging life." Tang Li joked to ease He Shun's tension. "And Qi Lan is tough! He definitely would live longer!" he assured him.

He Shun sighed in relief. "Thank you." He said.

Tang Li and Li Yan then bade the two goodbye since they also have to sleep.

"Are you going to sleep now?" Wen Wen asked He Shun.

"En. The sooner I sleep, the sooner I will wake up tomorrow." He Shun said. "I want to see Qi Lan-ge soon." He smiled.

"Mn. Then, let's retire for the night." Wen Wen said. Then, he blew the candle beside the cage.

Darkness fell upon them and Wen Wen and He Shun lied on their bed to sleep.

But, everyone is actually not asleep yet, including the Shanliangde Sect and Wu Tie who are still recuperating. They are also worried about Wen Wen's and He Shun's situation, so how would they be able to sleep?

"How is Wen Wen?" Chen Wu directly asked Wen Yan.

Wen Yan's jaw clenched. Indeed, he was relieved earlier when he heard Ling Yun's finding. But, his rationality returned to him. In fact, he is really blaming Fei Yinzi for this. But, like earlier, his rationality returned and his hostility towards Fei Yinzi lessened.

They don't know much about He Shun, so they are not able to judge whether He Shun was being controlled by the talisman. But, they just can't judge that it was He Shun who the foreign talisman clung onto just because of their unfamiliarity to them. They haven't lost their minds yet. They can't hang an innocent person, in case He Shun is really innocent.

"This…" Su Mi worriedly muttered, feeling conflicted.

"What if the talisman doesn't control the person every time?" Fei Luo spoke.

They looked at him.

"That's right… we all know that this talisman is very tricky, so maybe it can let the person act like the usual to trick us into thinking that that person wasn't being controlled by it so that we would point the gun to the other person?" Wu Tie looked at them.

Everyone sharply inhaled as they thought of this possibility.

"Then… what should we do?" Xi Bing asked. "You said that we can't make contact with them two to check their clothes because it is risky, in case the foreign talisman would sneak into our own clothes." He frowned.

"Tsk!" Xi He clicked his tongue. "Since you are all hesitating, then why not let time decide this?" he asked.

They all looked at him.

"You said that that talisman could also deceive us by making the person act like the usual so it won't be discovered by us." Xi He sneered. "Then, let us see until when this talisman could act as it is!" he told them.

They all fell silent.

"But… what is the more this talisman control the person, the more this talisman would damage Wen Wen or He Shun's mind and spirit?" Su Yi worriedly asked.

There was a suffocating feeling in their chests, especially Wen Yan and Fei Yinzi.

"Then, do you want to risk yourself and check their clothes, or stand by and observe first?" Xi He asked as his brows raised. "It will be either you, or them." he added.

"Xi He!" Xi Bing warned him.

"Hmph!" Xi He scoffed and looked away.

"No. Xi He has a point." Chen Wu sighed. Then, he looked at Wen and Fei Yinzi with a heavy expression on his face.

After all, Wen Wen is the only family that Wen Yan have left. If something happens to Wen Wen, they don't know what would Wen Yan do.

Ling Yun raised his hand. "How about you let me try checking them again?" he asked them.

"No." Wen Yan shook his head and clenched his fists. "Let me go." He said.

Zhu Xi's eyes widened in shock and his heart sank. Then, he lowered his head. He knows that this is for Wen Wen, but Zhu Xi still feels unwilling. After all, he doesn't want to lose Wen Yan…

Fortunately, they don't have to choose anymore, as the tent opened and xiao Bao and xiao Ling came in. "The talisman has been found." He told them.

Their eyes widened in shock. "REALLY?!" they exclaimed, can't hide the joy in their voices.

"En." Xiao Bao nodded while xiao Ling's brows are knit and he is frowning at the side.

Xiao Ling remembered what happened earlier.

In the darkness, they saw one of the two figures moved and sat up on the bed. Then, that figure took out something from his sleeve. By the moonlight, its blade glistened. It was a dagger! The figure, holding a dagger, slowly and silently approached the other who is sound asleep. Then, he raised his dagger, intending to kill the sleeping person. 

"If I didn't remove the control on He Shun's mind, you would have killed him, right?" Qi Lan wryly smiled as he accurately took the talisman on He Shun's nape. 

He Shun's body instantly became limp. The dagger fell on the ground with a loud clang. But, before He Shun could hit the ground, Qi Lan caught him and held him in his arms. 

Xiao Bao and xiao Ling who were hiding behind the trees didn't answer. Then, suddenly, an object flew towards them. Xiao Bao caught it and saw that it was the box that he secretly gave to Qi Lan earlier for him to store the foreign talisman. 

Yes. Xiao Bao already knew that it was He Shun whom the foreign talisman clung onto. Not because he saw it through the smoke earlier, but because he knows that He Shun is the weakest among the participants, and thus his mind and spirit is the weakest among them, making him vulnerable to mental attacks, not to mention that he has been mentally and spiritually attacked before. 

"The talisman stuck on his skin, especially on his nape where his brain is the nearest." Xiao Bao said. 

Qi Lan understood. He Shun's mind would be deeply penetrated by the talisman. And only Qi Lan knows how to remove the control, as the talisman came from his own land. "You already found me out." He sighed. 

Xiao Bao didn't answer while xiao Ling placed the box inside the Shapeshifting Blanket after checking that the foreign talisman really was inside. It is not that he doubts Qi Lan's integrity, but that he was just being careful.. After all, they still yet to see where does Qi Lan's loyalty truly lies, especially that he is the son of the leader of their enemies.
