Chapter 1667 The Calm After A Storm

Name:The Substitute Bride Author:Mi Lu
After a pause, Charles noticed how terrified Leila was, so he said in a soft voice, "Of course, if you behave yourself, nobody would intentionally make things difficult for you."

"I see, Charles. Don't worry. I'll work hard and won't be a bother to you anymore from now on." Leila turned around and smiled shyly at Charles, as if she didn't hear what he'd just said.

Charles remained silent, and then Leila walked out of the ward.

He really hadn't wanted to say that, but he realized he had no choice as he thought of Melissa in the ward next door.

Melissa was still sick. If Charles asked Leila to leave now, Melissa would definitely fight him on it. He didn't want that to happen, so he decided to give her a chance. After all, Leila wasn't doing anything wrong yet.

Charles had called a private detective just now. He wanted to know what had really happened in the past few days, and he wouldn't let anybody else control him.

He just wanted to know the truth.

As Leila left Charles's ward, she took a deep breath. She thought, 'Somebody must have told on me to Charles. Why else would he threaten me?'

Leila was furious. She decided that once she found out who that person was, she'd never forgive whoever it was.

She already had a pretty good guess in mind. Most of the people who worked in Shining Company were pretty much loyal to Charles. But except for David, she couldn't think of anybody else who would dislike her.

Leila angrily headed to Dream Garden.

At the gate of the hospital

Sheryl had just returned, and she had some food with her. She saw Leila was just about to leave. As she recalled Charles's strange behavior that day, she felt upset and blocked Leila from leaving.

They looked at each other and didn't say anything.

Leila spoke before Sheryl could. Her complacent face was a far cry from the utter displeasure on Sheryl's face.

"Are you and Char

th once and for all, he couldn't yet confirm whether Sheryl really did do what he had been told, so he convinced himself that he shouldn't be treating Sheryl like this for now.

"Let's eat together." Charles patted the seat beside him as he asked Sheryl to sit down.

Sheryl didn't expect to find Charles this way. She looked at him in disbelief.

"What? Are you still mad at me because of how I acted?" Charles looked at Sheryl, with a smile.

Sheryl shook her head vigorously. She was finally getting what she wanted, which was to be with Charles. A little fight was nothing.

"No. I... I just didn't know what was wrong with you." Sheryl didn't want to lie to Charles, so she said what she really thought.

"It's nothing. I just don't like seeing that you can't get along with my mother." Charles held Sheryl's hand.

Sheryl was worried, and she didn't know how to explain it to Charles, but surprisingly, it seemed as if he was going to let it go. This must be the calm after the storm.

"Hmm, don't worry. You're here. I wouldn't ever treat your mother badly." Sheryl knew that she and Melissa truly didn't like each other, but they didn't bear too much of a grudge. This was their problem, and they needed to solve it. Sheryl believed that she could.
