Chapter 1883 Tittle-Tattle

Name:The Substitute Bride Author:Mi Lu
"Did you need something, Ms. Zhang?" David had expected Leila to take action, but he didn't think it would be this soon.

Leila looked around. Certain that no one else was around, she turned back to David. "I have something important to discuss with you. Are you free right now?"

"You're going to say it anyway, whether I have time or not. Why bother asking?" David said, feeling bored.

At David's words, Leila's face turned dark. She gestured to the conference room across the hall. "Let's talk there."

"Alright." David shrugged and strode towards the empty room.

Leila followed, her fists clenched tightly. Had they been somewhere else, she'd already have had the man beaten to a pulp.

She shut the door and glared at David. David only raised an eyebrow. "What now?"

"David, you are aware that Charles has already divorced Sheryl, aren't you?" Leila narrowed her eyes. "In that case, I suggest you start treating me with more respect. I am, after all, going to be your boss when I marry Charles." The nerve of this woman! Charles never mentioned anything about marrying Leila, but she was already acting as if they were already engaged.

"Oh, is that so? What do you want me to do then? Do you perhaps think I'm being too harsh on you? Or did you suddenly get scared that Mr. Lu isn't going to marry you?" David shot Leila a dirty look, his glaze making Leila uncomfortable.

She pointed a finger at David and sneered, saying, "Remember your place. Don't act as if you're in charge. What, you think Charles will listen to you?"

"Mr. Lu has his own plans," David replied coldly. "And it is his own business as to who he will listen to." If it weren't for Charles, David would have exposed Leila's true intentions. For now, however, they needed to bide their time and act like they knew nothing of Leila's hidden agenda.

"You-!"

"Ms. Zhang, if you have nothing else to say, then I shall take my leave," David said as he walked towards the door. "Mr. Lu is waiting for me. Oh, and a piece of advice: focus on your job as a secretary and stop dreaming about becoming Mr. Lu's woman."

These words provoked L

d shot her a saccharine smile.

The girl was so terrified that sweat started to drip from her forehead. She looked down to avoid Leila's cold gaze.

This went on for a few more seconds before Leila decided to stop. She took her mug from the counter and walked out of the room without a second glance.

The women let out the collective breath they had been holding, hands clutching at their chests. They couldn't believe what just happened.

The next couple of days were hell for that woman. Leila picked on her work, and she made absolutely no progress in tasks concerning the secretary department.

Today, the woman needed Leila to sign an important document, but her request, like all the others she had made over the past days, was rejected. She had already been scolded by her boss, so, having no choice, she went to talk to Leila.

Leila had just returned from Charles' office and was now sitting behind her desk. Seeing the girl come in, she shifted to a more comfortable position and clicked her fingers on the desk. "Yes? Is there anything you'd want to complain about to me today?"

"Ms. Zhang," the girl mumbled, head bowed. "I am so sorry. I shouldn't have said those things about you. Please, forgive me..." She was afraid the comments she had made earlier would cost her her job. She liked working in Shining Company, and it would honestly be a big loss if she got fired just for offending Leila.
