"Sir, I don't know what happened. Vicky insisted on saying that and asked us for an explanation." The nurse had seen that he was in a very difficult position. She knew that there was no way out of this, so she relayed what Vicky had said just now.
"Fine. Get out. I need to think," the Head of the Nurses Department snapped. Once he was by himself, he began to ruminate.
The rattled nurse went straight to Cassie and told her everything.
Cassie, in turn, grew pale as she listened to the nurse's story. Silently, she cursed herself for having been unable to anticipate that this would have happened. Vicky was far from kind-hearted. She certainly wouldn't allow people who had done her wrong to go unpunished. Cassie was in big trouble if Vicky ever found out that it was she who had been making fun of her.
She couldn't help but tremble at the thought.
"Cassie, are you okay?" the other nurse asked. She had noticed that Cassie had acted strangely several times today. Seeing Cassie this way again made her suspicious.
"Yes. I have to go restock the medicine cabinet," Cassie said abruptly and then rushed away as if somebody was chasing her.
The other nurse, seeing Cassie's reaction, shook her head involuntarily.
When Cassie was finally out of her colleague's sight, she let out a sigh of relief and patted her chest. 'I'm terrified. What should I do?'
After some thought, she began to accept that this was the way things were going and that she could not control this. She could, however, plan her next step carefully.
She thought long and hard before deciding against apologizing to Vicky. Instead, she dialed Nick's number.
Nick had just finished working on a file. When he saw that Cassie was calling, he quickly picked up the phone with a smile. "What's up? Let me guess. Because you haven't seen me in a while, you're already missing me."
"Nick, something's wrong." Cassie nervously looked at her phone and then placed it back near her ear.
When Nick heard this, his smile disappeared. Immediately, he felt mild panic and asked, "What's wrong?"
"I wanted to play a trick on Vicky, but now she's got the upper hand and wants to make the issue bigger than it is. I'm in trouble. What should I do?" It was clear to Nick that Cassie was not in the best mental state while she spoke.
"Don't be nervous. I'm coming to see you. Find
ad been forced to do it, and now, he didn't want to be distant from Nick as well.
"Okay, Mr. Lu. I want to ask a favor from you." Nick decided he had better get straight to the point. He was only trying his luck anyway. If this didn't work, he had to know so that he could start figuring out another way out of this.
"Say it." Charles frowned as he waited for Nick to continue.
"As you know, Cassie hates Vicky, so she played a little trick on that woman. But now, Vicky has sworn to get revenge, and I'm worried that Cassie's going to be in trouble," Nick confessed, unsure of where this conversation was going. Silently, he waited for Charles' answer.
On the other end of the line, Charles was trying his best not to laugh.
He hadn't gotten the chance to deal with that despicable woman himself, and now he learned that Cassie had done that for him. If he was being honest, all he wanted at that moment was to extend his gratitude to Cassie. How could he let her get into trouble?
"I see. Don't worry. I won't let anything happen to Cassie," Charles said before hanging up the phone.
Nick couldn't believe what he had just heard. How could the problem have been solved that easily?
Back in the hospital, Cassie felt restless the whole time. Paranoid, she made sure to keep an eye on Vicky.
As she was doing so, a doctor came in and asked her to go to the operating room.
"Ah, Dr. Zheng. I've never worked in an operating room before," Cassie confessed as she looked at the doctor nervously. She felt that bad things were coming to her in succession.
