Upon hearing this, Damian's face darkened. He thought for a while and replied, "Actually, I don't totally believe in him. But a glimmer of hope is better than despair. I really don't know what to do. Sheryl is now..."
"Damian, do you think it's worth doing so much for this woman? She doesn't even appreciate it. Instead, she threw herself into her ex-husband's arms. How do you feel about that? Aren't you sad?" Duke asked.
A tinge of despair flashed across Damian's face. He forced a smile and said, "Sad? It's not as simple as being sad. I feel as if a knife is being twisted in my heart. I feel the pain all over my body. But now I'm numb, and I can't feel anything."
Duke couldn't help but feel sorry for him. However, he felt like he couldn't do anything as Damian seemed completely entranced by Sheryl. He didn't know what to say then.
"To be honest, I think you should just give up. It's not worth risking your life for a woman who doesn't even love you," Duke said with a sigh.
Damian didn't respond. He lowered his head, deep in thought.
"I know I can't persuade you to change your mind. Forget it. I've tried my best. What will you do in the future then?" Duke added.
Damian suddenly raised his head, his face terrified. "I'll go ask Sheryl," he said.
"What are you going to ask her?" Duke asked hurriedly.
"You don't need to know that," Damian said in a cold tone. There was a look of ecstasy on his face. It was obvious that he wasn't going to listen to anyone.
All he wanted was to see Sheryl and ask her why she did this to him!
Duke had no choice but to give up. Although he couldn't persuade Damian, he couldn't bear to see Damian continue making the same mistakes over and over again. If Damian did something wrong, how could he explain it to Damian's father?
Duke then decided he wo
s with her. If Charles wasn't there, she wouldn't know what to do.
Suddenly, Charles' phone rang.
He immediately declined the call in fear that Clark would wake up.
"Sheryl, it was Vicky. The man she was looking for has arrived," Charles said to Sheryl gently.
Charles had told Sheryl about his plan, so Sheryl knew that the man Charles was talking about was the one who was good at disguises.
"Charles, this is a risky game. We're in a hurry, so we need to be careful," Sheryl urged, sounding concerned.
Charles nodded his head and kissed Sheryl on her forehead. "Okay, I'll go first. If anything happens here, call me. And if Clark wakes up, call Director Liu."
"Okay." Sheryl's heart sank as she watched Charles leave.
After Charles left, the ward seemed much quieter than before. She felt the air in the ward suddenly become so suffocating that she found it difficult to breathe.
At that moment, she heard the door open. She turned her head and was instantly startled.
Damian was standing at the door.
When did he come? How did he find her?
Sheryl's first response was to ask Damian to leave. After all, she wasn't in the mood to deal with him right now.
"Sheryl!" Damian said.
