Chapter 271 - Be With You

Corbin and Sylvia were sitting on the sofa facing each other.

Sylvia asked, "Still no progress with your effort to find your pregnant wife?"

Corbin shook his head sadly and replied, "I haven't found Rebecca yet, I've been trying to find her, but it seemed she disappeared without a trace. I can't find her..." he replied dejectedly.

Sylvia's brows furrowed. "This is puzzling. The ring was supposed to alert you of Rebecca's whereabouts, but why is it that until now it's not giving us any signal yet?" she said while looking at the onyx ring that her son was wearing on his finger. "Unless..."

"Unless she's no longer wearing the ring and it was hidden somewhere, concealing its location," Corbin finished his mother's sentence.

"Yeah, that's what I'm about to say!" Sylvia blurted.

Corbin released a deep sigh. His face showed sadness, longing, and desperation. "I'm just hoping that wherever she is right now, she's safe, together with our twins inside her tummy," he said.

Sylvia was tapping her hands on her lap. "So, you mean to say that your wife is trying her best not to see you again? That she's deliberately trying to forget you and no longer wishes to see you again? But why?"

Corbin nodded his head. "That's the reason, I guess..."

"I thought you love each other? What's going on, son?" Sylvia asked.

"We did!" Corbin lied. "But I don't know why she had a change of heart. Maybe, she doesn't love me at all," he spoke in a voice filled with yearning and pain.

Sylvia was shaking her head while studying the dispirited expression on her son's face. She realized that her womanizer son finally fell in love with a woman for real. Too bad that woman played with his feelings and left him in misery. "Don't give up finding your wife, son! You will find them soon!" she said, trying to cheer him up.

"I will never give up finding my wife, Mother!" Corbin said. "I will continue searching in faraway places just to find them!" he spoke with fierce determination shimmering in his eyes.

"Sooner or later, your wife will wear the ring again. Unless she already lost the ring!" Sylvia said worriedly.

"I hope not, Mother! The ring is the only thing that can lead me to her, and I'm sure that she didn't throw something valuable that represents our love for each other. The ring represents our union and wedding vows. She will never throw it! I'm sure of that!" Corbin spoke with confidence.

Zalvo descended the staircase and joined his family in the living room.

Sylvia looked at her husband and inquired, "Your men haven't found any news about Laura yet?"

Zalvo sighed heavily. "This is strange! How could a mere woman without power evade our men? My men can't also find her family! As if they vanished without a trace!" he asked in confusion.

"You seemed to have forgotten that Laura is the reincarnation of Princess Rhenephei! At some point in time, her power will resurface, whether in this lifetime or her next lifetime, nobody knows. And if that happens, we will have a hard time capturing her by force!" Sylvia said, her eyes gleaming.

"Let's hope not!" Zalvo said. "What if she had a benefactor providing her protection? Did you remember when you went to her parent's farm? Her entire family vanished in the blink of an eye! Some powerful people are protecting Laura!" he concluded.

Sylvia nodded her head in agreement. "Yes, I remember that incident. I will never forget it!" she said vehemently. That incident was a big insult to her.

"All we have is a frustrating development so far!" Zalvo commented. He looked at his son. "How about you? No progress yet in finding your missing wife?" he asked.

Corbin shook his head. "Nothing so far, Father," he said morosely.

Zalvo sighed. "If you found your wife again, imprisoned her in a room so that she can never leave again! She's adding to our problems! I can't understand the drama of that woman! She married you and then left you! So irritating!" he expressed his disappointment with his daughter-in-law.

Corbin rose to his feet. "I'm going out to find my wife again," he said and walked towards the door.

The vampire couple watched their son exited the door.

Laura and Graven just finished eating lunch one hour ago. They were relaxing at the back of the manor, surrounded by towering trees.

The couple was enjoying each other's company. They love the gentle breeze of the sunny afternoon while sitting on the garden swing.

Graven planted a kiss on his wife's head. "How's Sofia?" he asked.

Laura looked at her husband. "She's fine."

"I hope she won't run away again," he said. "I hate seeing you, feeling stress," he added.

Laura smiled. "Don't worry, my sister already learned her lesson well. She won't run away again!" she said with confidence in her voice.

"I hope so. How are your parents nowadays? Are they comfortable here? No problem, I hope?" he said.

Laura shook her head. "They like it here, but sometimes they were still talking about the farm once in a while," she said sadly.

"Just tell me everything they need. I will gladly give them anything that can make them forget the horror that happens on the farm," Graven offered.

"My parents have each other, and we are now living in one place. Seeing their children safe and sound every day is already making them happy especially that Sofia is already back with us. They're not asking for more than that. We are forever grateful for your protection, my love," Laura replied in a grateful voice.

Graven hugged his wife affectionately. "I'll do anything for you and your family, wife!" he said.

"Thank you, husband!" Laura replied.

The couple enjoyed each other's warmth.

A few minutes later, they disengaged from their embrace.

"By the way, how's your family in South Pond Town?" Laura inquired.

"They're fine," Graven replied.

"How about Cooper and his little family?" she asked.

"My brother finally changed his bad habits and now becomes a responsible father and husband to his wife," Graven spoke happily.

"That's awesome!" Laura said with a smile. "Your father finally got his lifelong wish, am I right?"

"Yup! My father is happy with Cooper's transformation. Even Horace was impressed. Of course, I'm happy too! My father loves playing with the children every day, and that is the icing of the cake!" Graven said animatedly.

Laura planted a kiss on her husband's jaw. She caresses her baby bump lovingly. "I can't wait to see our baby soon!" she gushes excitedly.

"Me too!" he beamed and put his hands on his wife's protruding tummy.

The couple continues enjoying the wonderful atmosphere in the garden.

Two hours later.

A female servant appeared in the garden and placed a tray of refreshments on the table near the swing. "My Lord, My Lady... I prepared a refreshing lemonade for you and freshly baked bread. Enjoy your snack!" she said and went back to where she comes from.

Graven left the swing and poured lemonade into the glasses, then gave one to his wife.

The couple enjoyed drinking the refreshing lemonade and loves the fresh-baked bread.

After eating their snack, the couple continues enjoying the calmness of the surrounding.

"Are you happy here, wife?" Graven asked.

Laura smiled brightly and nodded her head. "Yes, of course! It's peaceful here, and I got to see my family every day. And lastly, you are by my side. What more can I ask for? I already have everything that I wish for in my life. I'm truly blessed! Thank you for providing my family everything, husband!" she replied. Her eyes twinkled with happiness.

"Don't mention it. And wife, please stop thanking me. As your husband, it's my responsibility to take care of you and your family," Graven said.

"I love you so much, husband!" Laura declares her love for him again and again.

"I love you more, my beloved wife! And I also love our baby in your tummy," he said tenderly.

Laura smiled radiantly and rested her head on her husband's chest, enjoying his warmth.

One hour later.

Laura was already yawning. "I'm feeling sleepy. Can we go back to our room now?" she asked.

"Sure! Do you want me to carry you back to your room?" Graven offered.

Laura smiled and shook her head. "No need, I can walk," she said.

"Alright, let's go!" Graven spoke.

The couple left the garden.

They walked on the path leading back to the house.

A few minutes later, they climbed the stairs and walked on the hallway leading to the master bedroom. They reached the room and went inside.

Laura went to bed and lay down. "Husband, sleep with me," she requested.

"Sure!" Graven replied and lay his body down beside her wife.

"Let's sleep," Laura said and closed her eyes.

Graven wrapped his arms around his wife and shut his eyes, allowing his body to fall into a deep sleep.

The couple fell asleep on the bed.

Hours went by.

It was already 5:30 in the afternoon when Graven finally awakened. He watched his wife's beautiful face adoringly.

He stayed in that position until Laura's eyelids fluttered slowly, indicating that she had already awakened.

Laura looked at her husband and smiled sweetly. Then she glanced at the window. "The sun is already gone," she murmured.

"Yeah, it's going to be evening soon," Graven said.

"Is there anything specific you want to eat for dinner? I'll inform the cook," she said.

"No need. I'll eat whatever the cook is going to prepare for tonight's dinner," he responded.

"Okay," Laura said and sits upright.

"Wife, I'll go to the forest and have a quick visit to Grandpa Terros. It's been three days already since I last visited his place," he said.

"Sure! Give my regards to him," she responded. "Will you eat dinner here with me or there at grandpa?" she asked.

"I'll return here as soon as possible and eat diner with you. It's just a quick visit, and then I'll come back here right away," Graven said.

"Okay, you can go now," Laura said and rose to her feet.

Graven left the bed, wore his black shoes and his black cloak. A few minutes later, he disappeared from the room.
