Chapter 44 - 44: Murder

"What do you mean by looking at me in that way?!" The muscle guy instantly raged

Just like Reif and Rhash, he too is a B-rank adventurer. That should put him in the same standing as the two young men

However, Reif and Rhash's age made it so that the muscle guy was looking down on them

For him, these 'kids' were just lucky that they managed to complete several B rank missions that promoted their adventurer rank

After all, one's adventurer's rank is not a clear indication of their strength. The power distinction in this world is a bit vague since there is really no 'cultivation realms' similar to the ones in novels

One way to determine one's strength was through their rank but it was not absolute

There were instances when adventurers got lucky and they managed to complete missions that were above what they normally can complete

It was not common but there are still lucky adventurers that have a power that doesn't reach their rank

Since the two are just 'kids', the muscle guy viewed them as one of the lucky ones

It irks his pride that Reif was looking at him in that way. It really gets into his nerves and he had an urge to beat Reif to death

"What do you think?" Reif asked back as his pitch-black eyes were glowing with a cold light

Since this muscle guy dared to lust over his big brother, Reif wouldn't mind giving this guy what he deserves and that is - death

After tasting Rhash's lips, Reif is even more unwilling to share him with other people

If others covet the only person that Reif wants, he doesn't mind killing them

"Arrogant bastard!" The muscle guy replied while using his magic

His fist was instantly covered with hard rocks as he charged in Reif's direction

"Courting death" Reif sneered before a pressure spread with him as the center

The muscle guy's eyes instantly trembled as he felt the gravity squeezing him from all direction

"G-gravity m-magic and this powerful? How c-could this be?" The man was completely shocked

The reason why Reif has the nickname 'Crimson Magician' was because of the magic he uses

Whenever he appeared, crimson explosions would surely appear. His power was greatly destructive that the crimson balls he created brought fear to other people

Most people think that explosion magic is Reif's forte and is the only magic that he was strong at

However, that was not the case. As cautious as Rhash, when there are witnesses, they don't use all of their power

If the enemy knows what magic they can use then they would be able to prepare beforehand and Rhash wants to surprise the enemies that only know him and Reif through the rumors

Gravity magic is destructive but also more subtle. Oftentimes, only the target would realize what magic was being used since it was invisible

This is one of the cards that they were hiding but Reif is using it now

After all, if he were to cause explosions inside the city, it would cause a commotion. But with gravity magic, it was more subtle when killing someone

"Big brother is right, surprising enemy is one of the easiest ways to kill them" Reif muttered

While the muscle guy was still surprised, Reif already appeared in front of him before a pain spread from his chest

The man instantly coughed out a fresh mouthful of red blood. When he lowered his head, he saw Reif's hand is currently embedded inside his chest

How could this be? Aren't both of them B rank adventurers?

Even if he was caught off guard, he still shouldn't have been defeated this easy, right?

In just a single second, Reif's hand already poke a hole in his chest to crush his heart! This was too much of an easy kill!

"You are confused, too bad you wouldn't know why you died easily" Reif muttered as flames spread from his hand that swallowed the entirety of the muscle guy's body, destroying the evidence

Rhash teachings told Reif that if he would kill anyone, especially if it was in the city, he must make sure to not leave any evidence

One way to do that was to destroy the corpse which is what he was currently doing

Even the blood in his hand was burned to nothing

Reif's power is pure destruction but because of that, he lacks magic that has 'special effects', including debuffs, buffs, or healing

Of course, Reif can learn those but he wouldn't be as talented in them as destruction magic

To make up for that, the two of them made an effort to obtain an item that Rhash saw in his dream

In Reif's finger, a ring with a diamond-like thing embedded in it can be seen. Although it looks expensive, it also doesn't look that special

The ring only looks like any normal spatial ring that was customed designed but Reif's spatial ring is not a normal one

It does not only has a space inside but the diamond in it was one of the treasures that the two obtained

The diamond was called an Anima Diamond. It was a naturally made treasure that can be mostly found in places where there were a lot of deaths that occurred. It was rare as it is formed through luck

Anima Diamond is a coveted treasure since it can subtly mess with a person's soul which was what Reif uses earlier

His diamond mess with the muscle guy's soul, causing him to have a weaker reaction time than usual

The soul effect was very subtle and not many people can realize that something is interfering with their soul

Too bad that the diamond that Reif has is an extremely small one. Only enough to form a ring. It was still coveted but not that much because of its small size

Not to mention, the ring cannot be used indefinitely. To recharge it, the user either needs to feed it with their spiritual power or kill people while wearing the ring

It was an item that bordered an evil object that is prohibited. Thus, Rhash made it so that the ring isn't that eye-catching

If b rank adventurers have a lousy spatial ring, it would weird out other people. Therefore, the only way was to make the diamond into an expensive yet not special looking spatial ring

With Reif finally killing a person he only met today yet he already hated, he immediately fled from the crime scene in case other people arrive

If Reif's mind was in its normal state and was not bothered by what happened earlier, he surely would do one more thing and that was to check if there are any hidden witnesses

Too bad that his state of mind was affected and he didn't realize that there was someone hiding in the corner that just witnessed his act of murder

The hiding woman was shaking profusely. Her whole body secretes sticky sweat that clings into her clothes

In her hand was a bag filled with herbs that she just brought. This woman didn't expect that using this alley would make her a witness of a crime

The fortunate thing was she wasn't discovered

"I-Isn't that the Crimson Magician?" This woman is very familiar with Reif. After all, she is living in fear for almost a year because of the rising stars - Bloody Angel and Crimson Magician

At first, she was extremely afraid but in the next second, she realizes something

After wiping her sweat, the woman starts running with a goal in her mind. It took her some time before she reached a clinic that Rhash and Reif are familiar with

It was the clinic of the doctor that refuses to treat Rhash because they don't have any money

"Father!" The woman called out the doctor that was currently treating a patient with a broken arm

"Anna, what are you shouting for? Can't you see that your father is very busy!"

Fortunately, the doctor was already bandaging the patient's arm after treating him with both medicine and magic

Anna realizes that her action was inappropriate and she calmed down a bit

"Father, I need to talk to you" Anna said with a serious face

Seeing that look, the doctor sped up the treatment before sending the patient out of the door

"What is it?" The doctor asked and Anna made sure that no one would hear her first before speaking

"F-Father, I saw the Crimson Magician today" Anna started and both her and her father shuddered in fear

Due to her father refusing to treat Rhash, the two has been living in fear after those kids rapidly climbed the ranks of the adventurers

They fear that the two would resent and kill them secretly. It comes to the point that they almost never left the city where the law is still protected

Even B rank adventurers cannot kill people inside the city if they don't want to get arrested

But even then, there is nothing absolute in this world. If people want to kill someone, there is still a lot of ways!
