Chapter 142 - 136

The Emperor didn't react nor speak another word. He just stared at Reif as if he would do whatever that man wants to finish this annoying situation

Reif can sense the guards arriving soon and he threw out his surprise to do whatever he has to do

"Join hands with me to destroy the church. As the Monarch, you wouldn't possibly want another power to rise above you, right?" Reif offered although he can already sense that this Emperor is not someone that cares about authority or whatever

He looks like a soulless and empty doll with no ambitions at all. Completely different from what people would expect from an Emperor

The Emperor let out a sigh as if whatever words Reif just spoke is troublesome. "Even if I help, the fate of this world, including ours would never change" he replied

Reif can sense something from those words as if the Emperor already tried that before countless of times

Seems like it was not only Reif or the God of Light that has some ideas of the truth about this world

The few of them know that this world has a set fate that no one could disobey. Whatever fate they have, the world would make sure that they would not be able to change it

It was really like a book where everything is already predestined. However, to have a fate where Reif died and his big brother also dying is not a fate that he could ever accept

He could accept any form of cruel fate this world has for him but definitely not if it involves making his big brother dead or miserable

If Reif does, just how heartbroken would Rhash become? Just imagining about it already makes Reif's heart throb from pain. He cannot let such a fate bestowed on the most important person in his life

"No! We can change it, I will make sure of that. There is no way in hell that I would let everything play as to how fates want things to be!" Reif said with all seriousness as he slammed his foot into the ground

Instantly, a wage of gravitational pressure has spread in the entire Throne Room. The guards that were about to enter were suddenly met with a strong repulsive force that prevents them from entering

Even if they throw magic at the area where the repulsive gravity is present, their magic would just bounce off

This kind of thing wastes a lot of Reif's power but it would all be worth it if he were to gain the Emperor's help

The only thing he could do now was to try his best to convince the Emperor but if that doesn't work, he has to fight him and threaten the Monarch with his life

It's just that Reif doesn't have much confidence. Even if he were to defeat the Emperor, the Emperor might possible just let himself die

The indifferent air around him makes people instinctively know that he doesn't care whether he lives or die

Thus, as much as possible, Reif wants to deal with things by convincing the Emperor and not threatening him

"Do you think that you are the first person to try to defy fate?" The Emperor questioned and Reif narrowed his eyes at that

Aside from him, is there another person that knows the unknown force in this world that turns all the living beings into puppets?

Are there more people like him or... the Emperor, he might be talking to his ownself

If the Emperor really meant himself then Reif can roughly guess the reason why a supposedly powerful Monarch looks this lifeless as if he doesn't have any soul anymore

"Did you try to defy fate and failed?" Reif asked back curiously. Although he can already kind of guess the answer, he still wants a concrete answer

"I did, countless times but I always failed" the Emperor answered and sure enough, that must be the reason why he ended up in this kind of state

"Even if you were to fail millions of times, you must not give up and join me! Do you really want to live your whole life as a puppet and just give up?!" Reif questioned harshly and the Emperor shook his head

"No matter what you do, fate is not something that could be defy" he said firmly as if that is an ironclad truth

Reif's face darkened at that and he forces himself to make the gravity field stronger. There are already more than a thousand Palace Guards trying to dispel the gravity field he created

However, Reif still wants to negotiate as the more information he knows about the Emperor, the more he is sure that that person wouldn't cave in him even in the face of death

"No! I will make sure that fate wouldn't be able to control me forever. You have the chance to do the same so join me!" Reif said firmly, sounding really believable

If it were other people, their blood might already be boiling but the Emperor still don't have much reaction

Instead, he just showed Reif is might

The Emperor raises his hand before clicking two of his fingers together. As soon as he does that, the environment that the two were in instantly changes

The surroundings turned to that of a desert that makes Reif's eyes tremble a bit. He doesn't know what the Emperor does but Reif didn't expect that he would enter this place without him knowing it

Just what kind of power is needed for something like this to happen

After entering the desert, the Emperor clicked his fingers together again and the scenery changes again

This time, they arrived on top of a large ocean where only water could be seen as far as the eyes could see

The Emperor took Reif into different places and although he was already prepared,  he still can't quite comprehend how he was teleported

They entered a forest, rocky hills, volcanic range, lagoons, and etc.

The Emperor demonstrated his power and just changing the place wasn't enough for him

"Fall!" He said while pointing at the skies and when Reif raises his head, he can see several meteorites falling down the sky

Fortunately, they are in a barren place where no life could be seen. If not, these falling meteors would have wiped out all life in it

Before the meteors could land and wreak havoc in the land, the Emperor opened his mouth to speak again

"Shatter" he softly said and the massive meteorites shattered into tiny little pieces that didn't harm the land even by the slightest bit

Not only did the Emperor manage to summon meteors, he even shattered them with so much ease as if they were just small pebbles

"You are not the only one that hypothesized about fate. I sense it far longer than you did and I also tried to defy it many times. In the end, I realize that I am nothing in front of fate in a hard way" the Emperor said and before Reif knew it, they are now back at the Imperial Palace but the guards can't be seen anymore

Although Reif is sure of his power, seeing the Emperor showing his might dampened his confidence a bit. He isn't sure if he can win against a person this powerful and a person like that can't defy fate...

Things seem to be bleaker, however! Reif still won't give up!

"Clearly, you have already given up a long time ago but I still don't!" Reif said harshly before ascending the stairs to the Emperor's Throne

"You have failed countless of times even though you are supposed to be the Emperor, a Monarch, a Supreme Ruler. I can guess that all those failures damaged you greatly especially with the pride the rulers have"

Emperors are Emperors. They are at the top of the hierarchy and that naturally filled them with arrogance especially if they are powerful, wise, and smart

However, if reality slaps them and made them feel like they are nothing in the grand scheme of things, they would break

That is what happened to this Emperor. He thought that he was above everything but he face countless failures. The number of failed attempts were too high enough to turn him into this empty version of himself

Reif could also end up in this situation but he cannot afford that. There is a person out there that is relying on him

"You don't think that whatever you do would change anything. You have already given up and lost all hope but that should not stop you from joining me!"

"Without hope and dreams, you have nothing else to lose. Whether you let things be or join me wouldn't matter much to you since you don't care about anything anymore"

"However! If you join me, you at least have the tiniest bit of hope to succeed in rebelling, don't you want that? Even if you die it doesn't matter to you so why not die while trying?"
