Chapter 37 - 37

Lady Melissa wished that this was all a dream, some nightmare of hers.

She couldn't bring herself to even think of losing Sophia yet another time. Sophia was beheaded by the Crown Prince in her first life.

If Sophia died here too? Lady Melissa would go crazy. Her emotions were a complete mess right now, and so were her thoughts.

She wanted to cry and just express all her thoughts.

It would be dangerous if she acted impulsively and just chose to do something based on her emotions.

'I shouldn't let my emotions get the best of me, or else I won't be thinking straight, and I'll be harming Sophia's chances of survival.'

'I can do this, Melissa; believe in yourself, YOU can do this.'

Lady Melissa desperately needed to hear words of comfort or just cry and express all her thoughts.

She just hoped that Sophia would be okay; she couldn't do anything much.

'I'm pathetic, aren't I?'

'What's the use of having a second life if I can't protect the ones close to me.'

Lady Melissa felt terrible, and she still couldn't come to terms with a chance that Sophia COULD die.

She couldn't bring herself to accept it.

'I should've never went to meet Duke Gaston.'

'I should've never been reborn.'

'No, I should've never been born in the first place.'

'No, SNAP YOURSELF OUT OF THIS!'

Lady Melissa then proceeded to slap her cheeks; although she wanted to cry and express her feelings, she could do that later.

'I need to gain composure.'

Lady Melissa slowly stood up, this was a difficult situation, and she wasn't a fragile princess in a locked-up castle.

She was THE Lady Melissa. She, of all people, should know how to act.

'Alright, I'll gain my composure for the sake of Sophia.'

Lady Melissa watched as the maids and servants carried Sophia's body upstairs to one of the empty guest rooms.

The maids and servants were careful not to injure or harm Sophia accidentally, and they made sure to carry her quickly as well.

The butler Derick quickly came down the stairs informing Lady Melissa that the doctor of the Shayla estate was already on the way.

"Lady Melissa, the doctor is on the way."

"Okay, thank you. Please inform me when he has arrived."

And with that, Lady Melissa rushed upstairs, following the trail of maids and servants carrying Sophia to one of the empty guest rooms.

"Lady Melissa! It's dangerous! Sophia might be infected with a disease!"

One of the maids shouted, worried for Lady Melissa's safety.

"I don't fucking care. Sophia is my personal maid. How could I just stand around and sit down? She might even die.

Look, I know you're worried for my safety, but please trust me. And divert all your attention to Sophia. She of all people needs it the most."

"Lady Melissa! The doctor is here!"

The butler, Derick shouted to Lady Melissa, attempting to inform her.

"Okay! I'll be down in a few seconds!"

Lady Melissa shouted back to Derick.

Lady Melissa quickly ran down the stairs, wanting to meet the doctor as soon as possible.

"Doctor!Thank goodness you're here!"

Lady Melissa breathed out a sigh of relief. At least half of her worries would be gone now.

"Good evening Lady Melissa; for what reason have you called for me?"

The doctor asked, wanting to find out the reason why he was called.

"Are you perhaps hurt in any way, Lady Melissa?"

"I'm not the one hurt, but my maid is. If possible, I would like for you to take a look at her and check her condition."

The doctor was stunned that Lady Melissa had gone so far as calling the Shayla estate's PERSONAL doctor just for a mere maid.

Though the doctor was astounded, he understood the severity of the situation, and a life could be at cost if he continued playing around right now.

"Lead the way Lady Melissa. I shall take a look at your maid."

The doctor said, trying to think about what kind of injury Sophia had gotten.

"Alright, doctor, please follow me."

Lady Melissa said. She then went upstairs, leading the doctor towards the room that Sophia was in.

"This is the room, doctor."

"Alright, let's go in, shall we?"

"Yes."

Lady Melissa opened the doorknob, only to be met with a bunch of maids fanning Sophia's body.

"Lady Melissa! Thank goodness your here! And you've brought the doctor as well? That's good!"

"What's wrong?"

"Sophia's temperature suddenly went hot, so we're fanning her, so her body becomes cooler."

"WHAT? SOPHIA'S BODY WAS HOT?"

Lady Melissa quickly rushed towards Sophia's body, touching her forehead.

Immediately Lady Melissa flinched; the maids were right, Sophia's forehead was EXTREMELY hot.

'It wasn't like this in the carriage.'

It was weird to Lady Melissa considering Sophia's forehead was at the average temperature during the carriage.

But in just 10-15 minutes, Sophia's temperature had changed to boiling hot.

"Let me take a look at her."

The doctor quickly responded.

"Can the rest of you please leave?"

Lady Melissa questioned. She didn't want Sophia feeling stuffy or anything.

The maids, now flustered, quickly left the room, only leaving the three of them, the doctor, Lady Melissa and Sophia.

The doctor opened his briefcase before taking out a stethoscope. He then put it near Sophia's chest, checking to make sure her heart was beating.

He then tried to check whether the blood circulation was alright.

After a few more minutes, the doctor was finished checking up on Sophia and had come to his verdict.

"I'm not sure what's wrong with the girl, her pulse and blood circulation are alright, but maybe it's because she's being overworked a lot these past few days?"

The doctor asked Lady Melissa.

"I'm not so sure whether she was overworked these past few days. I'll ask the maids later. Thank you for coming."

Lady Melissa bowed her head to the doctor to express her gratitude.

"No worries, it's my job after all.

I hope she gets better soon."

"Thank you."

"I hope I don't see you so soon next time."

"Me as well."

And with that Lady Melissa's butler escorted the doctor out of the estate.
