Chapter 313

"I had only ordered Lady Camilia to scare you a little bit, I never ordered her to do something like this, and again, I apologize for the Victoria incident…I heard what happened and I apologize, I never meant for something like that to happen to you, Melissa."

Duke Alphonso said, as Lady Melissa felt conflicted, feeling that the apology to a certain extent was genuine enough, though she knew better than to accept it since Duke Alphonso was going to take it as some sort of green light.

"And your last and final question, it's exactly what it means, I've gotten risk of the two pesky mosquitoes. Care to guess who exactly those two pesky mosquitoes that I'm talking about are Melissa?"

Duke Alphonso asked as Lady Melissa mumbled under her breath.

"Gaston…Gaston and Mason."

Lady Melissa wanted to so desperately leave Duke Alphonso, yet she couldn't, she felt helpless, not being able to help whatever was going on outside, instead of having to deal with this.

"Why did you agree with my rebellion against the Crown Prince in the first place? Was everything that happened between us just a plan for you? Was everything just a facade and a lie for you?"

Lady Melissa asked, as tears were threatening to spill from her eyes, as her voice got louder and louder, feeling betrayed and hurt by Duke Alphonso, knowing that she should've never trusted him in the first place.

Duke Alphonso felt guilty, he felt bad for being the reason as to Lady Melissa's tears, as he held his breath, he couldn't let his demeanour crack open, not now, not when he had done so much already for her.

"It wasn't all a facade, everything that happened between the two of us was real, everything that I said, every little action of mine, none of that was planned at all. Everything I said was real and genuine, so will you please just give me a chance?"

Duke Alphonso asked, genuinely hoping that Lady Melissa would say yes to him, even though he himself knew the extreme lengths that he had attempted to get her heart, it was dirty, cruel and even unfair.

However, he couldn't stop himself from doing so he needed to be the one, the one that Lady Melissa would be with, the one she would be happy with, and the one that she absolutely needed to stay alive.

"I'm sorry Duke Alphonso but, I was never interested in you that way, I can't say the same thing for the other two dukes, but I don't have feelings for you, I never did, and I never will."

Lady Melissa coldly said as she felt a pang in her heart every time she lied, saying that she didn't have any feelings for him, it was a lie of course.

Duke Alphonso knew it was a lie too, he had observed her too often, too much for him to know when she was truly lying or telling the truth.

Lady Melissa had expected Duke Alphonso to react in a burst of anger, demanding for her to love him once he had found out that his feelings weren't reciprocated by the woman he had done so much for.

"Fine, if that's how you want to play it. We'll play it this way. This is goodbye for now."

Duke Alphonso said, as he leaned into Lady Melissa, kissing her, as the woman reciprocated the kiss, pulling into it, and before she even knew it, the man had already disappeared, as Lady Melissa only now realized what she had done.

It was a horrible mistake, she had been swayed by Duke Alphonso's confession to her, and she just felt so vulnerable that she had kissed him back, as she quickly pushed the thoughts away, remembering that there were people out there, people that needed her help.

Lady Melissa ran, she ran and ran without looking back at him, she knew that she shouldn't have ever done this, was she in love with Duke Alphonso? No, that can't be, right?

Lady Melissa was going back, back to where everything was happening, she should've known that she could never trust anybody but herself, yet she allowed herself to be swayed.

Her morals, her beliefs, and most importantly her decisions had all been swayed just because of her feelings for Duke Alphonso, feeling that she should've ignored long ago.

Lady Melissa decided that if anything, now was the best time for her to turn off her feelings, there were people who needed her help, people that were in danger.

And that was why Lady Melissa was standing right beside Duke Gaston as she helped to protect him, in case any bullets had decided to hit him from behind or such, even after Duke Gaston persuaded her to evacuate with the rest.

The soldiers had come, as Duke Gaston had called upon them to come just in case there were more enemies that were hiding around in plain sight or going to attack the other nobles.

"I believe that's the rest of them."

Lady Melissa said, as she let out a sigh of relief, relieved that this was all finally over and that she could go back to bed and forget about everything that had happened.

Sure, heck, she had wanted to come back to society with a bang, but she didn't mean for it to be quite literally, though things were much more amusing this way.

"Check up on the other nobles, and I'll inspect the area in case anything happens."

Duke Gaston said as he instructed Lady Melissa to do so, the woman already nodding her head to the man's words.

"Oh and, one last thing Lady Melissa, stay safe."

Duke Gaston said, before the both of them had to part ways, Lady Melissa hadn't heard the last part of Duke Gaton's sentence, her mind too preoccupied on Lady Charlotte.

Lady Melissa had tried her best to not feel guilty, considering the fact that she had lied to Duke Gaston, though one thing was for sure, she was absolutely enraged about Duke Alphonso.
