"No…. I- I don't need it!" Zhu Yunqing croaked out while shaking her head.
Though she ached all over, she still didn't want to take a painkiller. The pain was a reminder to her, after all.
"But… miss you need it. I am sure you must be in pain now. You've been lying down for days now. Besides, Dr Qian said to administer it to you," the nurse tried to reason with Yunqing.
But Yunqing would have none of it, so she rejected it once more.
"No! I am fine!" Yunqing insisted. Her sweet mellifluous voice resonating as she spoke. It was now much clearer. Probably because her throat was not so dry anymore.
The nurse wanted to try convincing her again, but Li Qingling raised her hands to stop her.
"It's okay if she doesn't want it," Li Qingling said. If Yunqing did not want it, there was probably a reason why.
"But Ma'am Dr Qian…" the nurse could not finish what she was about to say before Li Qingling interrupted her.
Li Qingling sighed and said, "I will inform Dr Qian myself. Is that okay with you now?"
"Yes, Ma'am," the nurse reluctantly agreed. At the very least, she will not lose her job since they insisted on it. So, she just changes her IV, which was finished before leaving.
As soon as the nurse left, Li Qingling asked her daughter, "Aren't you in pain? Why did you refuse the injection?" She could not bear to see her daughter in pain, and now Yunqing seemed like she wanted to bear the pain.
"Mom, I am sorry. I should have trusted you and dad when you say Tang Chonglin wasn't good enough for me. I am sorry I didn't listen to you before. I don't want it because I want to remember how hurt I was by him," Yunqing said with a solemn tone and expression.
Li Qingling immediately hugged her daughter. It broke her heart to see her like this. Now she couldn't even tell her she warned her because of everything that had happened, nor could she dare to ask her daughter what happened. Her heart would writhe in pain if she asked her daughter to tell her about what transpired to make her take such a drastic measure. She didn't want her to relive the pain again, and Yunqing did not even seem like she was ready to say anything. So she just hugged and consoled her, "It's okay, honey."
"But don't you ever do anything foolish like this again! Okay," Li Qingling sternly cautioned her daughter, breaking away from the hug.
Zhu Yunqing slowly nodded, but Li Qingling wasn't satisfied, so she said, "Promise me! Promise me that you wouldn't do anything this stupid again!"
"I-I promise," Yunqing said almost inaudible to the ears. She was staring at the sheets on the hospital bed as if she wanted to bore a hole in them. Her hands were clenched on the sheets as well.
'Yes, I promise I will never do anything like this; instead, I'll make those scheming dogs pay with everything they've got!' Yunqing vowed to herself.
Li Qingling could not bear to see her daughter in such a state. Though her daughter was initially a timid person, she was never this timid as if she was afraid of losing the world. She sighed and shook her head helplessly. "Come here~," Li Qingling said, pulling Yunqing into a tight hug.
"You should rest. I'll get Aunty Zhang to prepare something for you to eat when you wake up," Li Qingling said as she pulled away from the hug. She helped Yunqing lay on the bed properly.
"What would you like to eat, dear?" Li Qingling asked her daughter.
"Anything, mom~" Yunqing replied, snuggling into the bed. Although it was not so comfy, it was slightly better than the one she had in her past life.
It felt good to be able to call someone' mom' and have them care for her like this. She lost hers quite early. So the only memories she had of her mother was basically childhood memories as she had entered the palace at an early age. After she lost her entire family, the closest she had to a family was Nui. But unfortunately, she was also implicated in the schemes of Noble Consort Jinghua. When she remembered Nui, her face visibly showed a sad look, but she quickly changed her expression before Li Qingling could see it.
"Okay~ I'll let her prepare your favourites then," Li Qingling said, smiling at her daughter and patted her head until Yunqing slept. It was only when she saw Yunqing's ċhėst silently heaving up and down that she stopped patting her head. She sighed after staring at Yunqing's sleeping face for a few seconds. Then, she got up from the bed and planted a loving kiss on her Yunqing's forehead.
After Yunqing slept, Li Qingling immediately instructed Aunty Zhang on what to prepare. "Aunty Zhang, please prepare hot and sour soup, abalone congee, sweet red bean soup, and lightly fried egg foo young. Although she loves hotpot, she can't eat it now, so there will be no need for it. She would probably wake up soon, so please bring them as fast as possible," Li Qingling instructed.
"Yes, Madam," Aunty Zhang replied.
"Add some almond jelly too. Oh! And add some fruit too. Some apples, she loves apples. And some red dates as well. It would be good for her blood. Also, some oranges and....." Li Qingling kept on rambling on and on.
Smiling, Aunty Zhang said after Li Qingling stopped rambling, "Okay, Madam. Would that be all?"
A mother would always be a mother. That single phrase seemed to be the right words for this moment.
"Just make a few dished that Yunqing likes and bring them over. You can leave out those she can't eat now,"
"Okay, Madam, but what about you?" Aunty Zhang asked.
Li Qingling sighed before saying, "I'm okay. I'll just take the food you brought earlier. It should still be warm." She said that as she gestured to the food, Aunty Zhang brought earlier for Yunqing.
"You should take some rest, Madam," Aunty Zhang said before leaving the room. She was genuinely worried for Li Qingling as she had bȧrėly rested since Yunqing was hospitalized.
'Take some rest, huh!' Li Qingling sighed before she whipped out her phone and gave her husband a call to tell him the good news.. She was yet to inform him that Yunqing had woken up.
