Chapter 13 – Comforting Herself (2)

Yu Duo’s expression dropped immediately as soon as she saw the bowl of herbal soup, but she still needed to put up the front of trying to appear fine when she was feeling down.

Aunty Lian put the bowl of herbal soup on the table and said, “Madam, I looked up the calendar. Your period had always been on time and it should fall within these next couple of days. Why don’t you have some herbal soup?”

That reminded Yu Duo instantly, today was indeed the first day of her period.

Yu Duo’s mouth was stiffed. She forced herself to look away from the herbal soup.

She had been drinking this herbal soup for three years, of course she knew what it was.

In order to play her role properly in front of Fu Sinian, Yu Duo pulled out all the tricks to make herself seemed like a Chinese dodder. She was afraid of thunder, rain, and all sorts of bugs. Even during her period, she was like any other fragile girls. She was in so much pain that she couldn’t even get out of bed and needed her husband to hold her and rub her belly for her.

(T/N: Saying someone is like “Chinese dodder” meant they are very fragile and high maintenance.)

Thinking about her own acting in front of Fu Sinian, even she couldn’t help but shudder.

Fu Sinian hired a traditional herbalist doctor to check Yu Duo out and gave her a prescription for herbal soup that was supposedly effective at helping her body regulate and relieving the pain from periods. He had Aunty Lian made her the herbal soup every time during her periods.

Herbal soups were bitter and astringent in nature, and Yu Duo played off of that in front of Fu Sinian as well.

She said that the herbal soup was too bitter and difficult to swallow. She insisted for Fu Sinian to feed it to her, and also made him feed her candies afterward.

Yu Duo got goosebumps just from thinking about her over-the-top behavior in the past.

Speaking of acting, she had really perfected her performances in front of Fu Sinian. She could arguably win an Oscar best actress award.

Welp! That was only because that’s the kind of girl that Fu Sinian liked.

One that was obedient, spoiled, drama-free. A kept-woman who waited at home for him to come back every day. Someone like that was much better than the women out there who were always plotting something.

After all, as far as Fu Sinian was concerned, his company and his career were his entire life. Women were only icing on the cake.

He would woo her when he was in the mood and tossed her aside when he was done.

This entire time, Yu Duo had learned to gauge that to perfection.

Aunty Lian knew that Yu Duo was used to Master feeding her her herbal soup. Now that Master was gone, it would take Madam some time getting used to drinking it herself.

Looking how Yu Duo was staring at the herbal soup, Aunty Lian sighed and said, “Madam, even though Master is not around anymore, you should still take care of your own body.”

Yu Duo looked down and smiled bitterly, “I understand, just leave it here for now. It’s too hot to drink right away, I will have it after it had cooled down some.”

Aunty Lian nodded immediately, then, as if she had suddenly recalled something, she looked at Yu Duo with worry in her eyes and said, “Madam, I saw your post to your friend group, are you… are you alright?”

Yu Duo forced a smile on herself and said, “I am alright, just….” And she stopped.
