Chapter 20 – Heaven wants to ruin me! (2)

Mrs. Yu made no attempt to hide her looking him up and down. Finally, she smiled and said, “It has been a few years. How handsome you are turning out, huh?”

Yu Yang smiled back. He was mild-mannered and gave everyone a comfortable feeling like basking in the spring breeze, “Aunty is too nice. This is Uncle’s birthday today. I have brought with me a little something for him. I hope he will like it.”

He handed the gift over.

Yu Guohui accepted it with a smile and said, “Oh, look at you. You shouldn’t have.”

“It’s nothing.”

Seeing that more and more guests are arriving, Mrs. Yu interrupted their exchange with a smile, “Yu Yang, go get a seat inside. Aunty and Uncle will come and chat with you in a bit.”

“Okay,” said Yu Yang as he walked inside.

As soon as Yu Yang had walked away, Mrs. Yu softly asked her husband, “Well, what do you think?”

Yu Guohui nodded, “Not bad.”

A Bentley pulled up in front of the hotel, and the doorman ran up quickly and opened up the door to the back seat. Out came Yu Duo.

When Mrs. Yu saw Yu Duo, she let go of her hand that was holding Yu Guohui, “Duoduo is here?”

“Mom,” said Yu Duo. Then, turning to look at her father, “Dad, happy birthday!”

Yu Guohui was the owner of a mid-size business that employed about 100 or so employees. His business had gone belly up, and he had once been on the edge of going bankrupt every day.

Now, his business was growing and everybody in the industry was polite to him, but mostly they were doing that because he was Fu Sinian’s father-in-law.

“Duoduo is here. Come, go inside. It’s windy out here.”

Mrs. Yu exchanged a look with Yu Guohui and, holding Yu Duo’s hand, said, “I will let you greet the guests. I will go inside with Duoduo.”

“Okay, you two go.”

Mrs. Yu walked inside the venue with Yu Duo. Many of the guests had already arrived, when they saw Yu Duo entering with Mrs. Yu, they all turned and looked at her.

The green sequined dress perfectly emphasized Yu Do’s small waist, her flat and straight collarbones, and her round and sexy shoulders. The sequins sparkled under the hall lights, they were sparkly but not overly ostentatious. Everybody who saw her had the same thought – this woman was just gorgeous.

Her arrival had immediately captured everyone’s attention.

Yu Duo wasn’t intimidated at all being the center of attention. She looked nonchalant, her eyes casually scanned across the entire hall as she calmly and nonchalantly walked next to Mrs. Yu.

The event tonight was Yu Guohui’s birthday banquet. Truth be told, these types of birthday banquets were no more than excuses for businessmen to get together and talk shop. Yet, oddly enough, there were a lot of young men among the guests tonight.

To the right of the banquet hall, a few individuals stood together and were chatting and laughing about something. Mrs. Yu walked over with Yu Duo and smiled, “Let me introduce, this is my daughter, Yu Duo.”

Yu Duo didn’t attend a lot of banquets, so she didn’t know a lot of these people.

The group of people smiled and introduced themselves and shook hands with Yu Duo in a friendly manner.

“Hi, my name is Yu Yang. Nice to meet you.” The last person to reach out his hand and introduce himself was Yu Yang. His eyes were very gentlemanly, holding no emotions that should not have been there, as though that was the first time the two of them have ever met.

Yu Duo smiled and held his hand, “Nice to meet you too.”

Fu Sinian stood to one side and coldly watched the two who grew up together pretending that they didn’t know each other.

Who were they trying to fool here?

They had dated for such a long time, like they could just forget about each other because they haven’t seen each other in three years.

They were sure good at reading each other’s mind.

Fu Sinian was surprised as he watched Yu Duo standing to one side quietly and ignoring everyone’s occasional glances at her.

From as far as she could remember, Yu Duo was a timid woman who knew her place. She was not someone who was poised. She was the type you’d keep at home, but not bring to a social event like this one. In his mind, Yu Duo would not be able to handle circumstances like this one.

What he didn’t expect was that not only was Yu Duo not intimidated by anyone or anything tonight, she was glowing and sparkling among the crowd and making herself difficult to be overlooked.

Her poise was not from the makeup alone.

It’d seem that he knew too little about this Mrs. Fu in the past.
