Chapter 12：Meeting with the mayor

Daniel got up from the bed as Ropego eyed him then he just stood there waiting, it should have been enough time for the mayor to get whatever he wanted from his observation. Maroof knocked on the house door and said:

"Mr... umm I actually forgot to ask for your name the esteemed mayor wants to meet you and your feline friend."

Daniel opened the door smiled towards Maroof and said:

"Name's Daniel don't wear it out." Maroof smiled at Daniel's antics, it seemed even though Daniel looked unapproachable he was actually a pretty chill guy with the good folk, there were no problems or grudges between him and Maroof thus he acted familiar with him making Maroof feel like he knew Daniel for a longer time.

Ropego jumped on Daniel's shoulder and yawned then looked at Maroof and said:

"Yo little chicken, take us to your mayor already, stop chatting with Daniel we have some stuff to do."

Maroof was flustered at Ropego's words then he took a look at his wings which then started to go down, he felt embarrassed by Ropego's words and he also blushed.

Maroof guided both of them towards the mayor's office then he knocked on the door while the secretary winked at Daniel. Maroof looked disappointed at her actions, not knowing what to think of them.

After a few seconds of waiting the voice of the mayor could be heard coming from the office:

"Ah yes my guests, come inside I have been expecting you for a while."

Afterward, Daniel and Ropego entered the office while Maroof excused himself with a gloomy look on his face still thinking about the secretary's antics.

Daniel observed the mayor and he couldn't see anything special about him, he looked like a normal old man he wondered how did such a person become the mayor of a city with such a high population?

The mayor twirled his mustache as he observed Daniel and Ropego but shook his head inwardly he couldn't infer much from them, even though he got an explanation about them from Maroof seeing them in person was another experience.

The mayor cleared his throat a bit then said:

"What business do these two great guests have in my humble city? Please I would like to know the intentions of the guests."

Ropego tapped Daniel's shoulder then he whispered in his ear:

"Tell him we are here to help him take care of the black underbelly of the city, we want to create a perfect society with no black spots, Of course, this wouldn't be possible normally, tell him how you took over City Magenta and that you would like to become allies with City Silver Forest you could even enact trade between the cities if you get more strong subordinates."

Daniel nodded at Ropego's words since they made sense he decided to go with his plan, he told the mayor exactly the same words that Ropego told him. The mayor seemed surprised by Daniel's words then he was intrigued.

The underground society of Silver Forest was quite damaging to the finances of the city, they also had illegal deals regarding resources and sometimes they even kidnapped the normal citizens!

With the investigative abilities of the city guards, they could easily infer who was behind those things, but the truth was that the underground society was stronger than the city guards, but to not create complete pandemonium the society worked in the dark keeping the looks that the city was perfect on the surface, it helped calm the common folk and give them a false sense of security so the mayor couldn't do much even though he had a few experts under his belt if he sent all of his experts to exterminate the underground society he could be ambushed and killed!

Even though the mayor wanted a better future for his citizens he was still a little bit selfish putting his safety first instead of his citizens.

Thus the mayor was extremely tempted by Daniel's offer, even though he had to ally with City Magenta that didn't mean he had to do anything specifically, also considering about trading he still had to wait for Daniel's subordinates to come before he had to trade with them! He didn't think they would be able to come with intact goods to his city which they could trade with.

The journey from City Magenta to City Silver Forest was quite perilous, only true experts could do this journey with their bodies remaining intact, seeing that Daniel had all his limbs intact made him quite the expert.

The mayor decided to gamble on this and accepted Daniel's proposal, he wouldn't lose anything from this pact, he would always end up on top regardless if Daniel failed or succeeded.

The mayor told his secretary to call Maroof back so he could show the two how things were in the dark district of the city.

Even silver had some stains. Maroof came back with an ugly look on his face as he looked at the secretary it seemed there was an untold story between the two of them.

Maroof bowed lightly towards the mayor then asked why was he called over, the mayor smiled at Maroof then said:

"These two friends here came to solve our you know 'dark problem'"

Maroof gasped then shook his head then said:

"Don't you think this is kind of embarrassing mayor." The mayor shook his head then continued:

"Come on Maroof, you know we are thin on personnel these two strong friends came here to help us at a very low price, please guide them towards the district."

Maroof looked at the mayor with narrowed eyes, the personnel wasn't so thin if he counted the mayor's personal guards.

Maroof, however, was just the captain of the guards, his influence was little to nonexistent in the big decisions regarding the well being of the city and its residents, all he could do is give suggestions which most of the time were ignored.

"I'm already waiting for the good news."

Then he looked downward at the paperwork as he put himself back to work, Daniel followed Maroof as they walked outside the City Hall and into the streets of Silver Forest.

As Daniel followed behind Maroof the clean streets started to get dirtier and the healthy people started to get sick, things started to change a lot more after tens of minutes they were in the middle of the now known as the dark district.

Homeless people were everywhere, either abusing drugs or even eating each other, the scene was as chaotic as it could get, Maroof shook his head at the sight feeling bad about each person living in this kind of environment but his strength wasn't high enough to help any of them. Even if he tried to help he couldn't help everyone, if he helped one person he would then need to help another one or else he would incur the wrath of the other people who lived in the dark district.

Shady people were everywhere eyeing Daniel, Maroof and Ropego like they would eye a juicy steak, Daniel shook his head at these people, they were weak people that thought the three of them were easy pickings.

These people tried to approach them discreetly but Daniel snorted and put two fingers together, it looked like he wanted to flick something, the shady men smiled at Daniel's actions but suddenly their smile froze as small holes appeared in their foreheads, all of them died instantly!

Maroof was shaken by the sight he saw then Daniel put a hand on his shoulder which made Maroof jump up in fright, he blushed at the embarrassing situation not knowing what to tell Daniel, Daniel just shook his head at him then indicated it was his time to leave he already did his job.

Maroof nodded at Daniel then saluted him and left quickly to not get entangled in the problems of the dark district, he wasn't someone who could make an impact here.

Daniel approached a seemingly dead person who had a small hole in his forehead and kicked him in the ribs, the guy spat out blood as he started shouting:

"HOW DID YOU KNOW!" Daniel didn't tell him anything and started asking questions directly:

"Who's the one in charge here?"

The man was quick to rat out, he wasn't a member of the strongest organization, he wasn't even a grunt, he was below even trash on the streets, he had nothing to lose if he let his lips loose:

"It's the Devil's burning church, they have a branch in the dark district they are the bosses here, please let me go!"

Daniel killed him instantly afterward, he did his job and told him what he wanted to know thus he gave him a quick death, it wasn't known how many people this man killed, he deserved what he got.

After he knew who was in charge, finding their headquarters was even easier, just go to the building that everyone avoided!

Daniel made his way through the slums of the dark district, the city was extremely big and the slums made up ten percent of the whole city!

That meant twenty million people lived like this, it was a sad sight even though Daniel wasn't a sentimental man he still felt bad for the people who lived like this every day, no hope nothing they could do, weak malnourished, having to eat their own kind, he abolished people who ate humans but he couldn't come to hate these people, they were pitiful and they had nothing else they could eat, the Z Gene users ate human meat to strengthen themselves while these people here did it for survival, actually newly awakened Z Gene users had the metabolism that Daniel had, they needed to eat very little but the personality altering effect of the gene also played a huge role.

Daniel walked directly towards the red and green painted building which none of the people who lived in the slums dared to approach, in front of it stood a giant woman with bulging muscles and three arms, the only way you could identify this person as a woman was that her face looked very feminine and there was also a lack of bulge in the skin-tight pants she wore.

She suddenly started to flex her muscles at Daniel menacingly as she struck strange poses, Daniel decided to humor the woman and he started his own poses, he wasn't in a hurry he still had time. The woman seemed to have drunk energy drinks as she started to do her poses at a quicker speed.

Daniel felt bored after a few minutes thus he decided to just end her quickly, he appeared in front of her as her eyes widened she tried to strike him with her giant fists but he simply grabbed them and directly threw her inside the building.

She made a huge hole in the wall as she bled from her mouth, she wasn't dead but she couldn't fight anymore, she may have been a devilling cause there was actually a bit of resistance coming from her when she threw her in the wall of the building.

Tens of grunts started to stream out of the rooms, it seemed they were sleeping previously as they looked groggy and sleepy.

Daniel showed no mercy towards the people of the Devil's burning church, he only let the woman go cause he found her funny, Ropego watched everything unfolding from a corner as he hid he nodded and smiled, Daniel was doing a great job!

The building started to shake as a shout was heard inside the building:

"WHO DARES TO CHALLENGE THE DEVIL'S BURNING CHURCH IN THEIR OWN HEADQUARTERS?"

It was a Devil Lord! Even though he was still weaker than Daniel by a bit he thought that he could still take care of him.

Devil Lord Berarizo was a strange-looking woman, she had three eyes that were quite ugly looking and she was quite a fat woman but her face and skin looked fair even though she looked like a human ball.

She looked at Daniel with hungry eyes as she licked her lips and said:

"Oho, you are quite a charming fellow why don't you follow this big sister for a night or two? I could care less that you killed these weaklings." She then winked her gross looking eyes at him which made Daniel shudder visibly.

The woman seemed to have been injected with chicken blood as she saw Daniel shuddering then she said in a loud voice:

"I like them when they squirm, mmm So good."

Daniel decided that it wasn't time to go easy on such a person, he didn't want to touch her more than it was necessary, even though her skin looked fair he felt an inherent disgust as she looked at her longer and longer.

He didn't want to look at her anymore thus he launched himself directly at her ready to interrogate then kill her!
