Chu Ge didn’t start attacking the Boss immediately. Instead, he avoided the radar range of the Boss and came to a stop in front of a small opening in the wall on the left. There was no door covering the opening, so Chu Ge simply poked his head in and looked inside. It was a small room, and there were four Kobold soldiers seated around a table eating.
Chu Ge heaved a sigh of relief at the close call. If he had started attacking the Boss, one holler from the Kobold Chieftain, and the eight Kobold soldiers from the side rooms on both ends would rush into battle with him. If all the soldiers attacked him, he would likely die. But he had no reason to worry now. Faced against just four Kobold soldiers, he was confident.
As he thought about his situation, he went past the side door and into the small room. Then, he took out his weapon. As per usual, he started his attack with the bow and arrow. Although he had already learned the fireball skill, Chu Ge was not very confident about the power and force of a fireball attack. So, to him, the bow and arrow method was more fatal.
The first arrow hit a Kobold soldier right smack in the chest—instant kill.
The other three Kobold soldiers immediately raised short spears and small round shields and charged Chu Ge.
Chu Ge didn’t panic or get nervous. He shot another arrow, and the sharp trilobate arrowhead pierced through the simple and crude small, round shield of one of the Kobold soldiers. The round shield was split in two, and the Kobold soldier’s HP also dropped to half.
Just as the three Kobolds were about to reach Chu Ge, he stowed the bow and arrows and switched to the zanbato. Then, he swung the sword towards the charging Kobold soldiers. However, the two Kobold soldiers charging in the front had also thrust their short spears toward Chu Ge.
But fortunately, the poor-quality, pig iron cast short spears were not enough to pierce through Chu Ge’s armor. It was only enough to leave two white scratches on the hardened resin armor on the bomb suit that Chu Ge wore. Then, Chu Ge returned with a hack and slash. The next moment, the Kobolds were all dead.
Chu Ge proceeded to search the corpses for treasure.
Besides over 30 bronze coins, the four Kobold soldiers still didn’t drop any other loot. It made Chu Ge feel like giving up on searching for loot from any of the monster lackeys. However, Chu Ge did not become dejected. The Kobold soldiers should be a part of the Boss battle. If they did not drop any treasures, then so be it. Turning to head out of the room where the dead soldiers were, he circled back to the other room on the right side of the large hall. He did the same as before, killing the monsters like in the previous room. Soon, the four Kobold soldiers in the right room were also taken out.
After he returned to the large hall, Chu Ge felt that after settling the subordinates, he could finally start taking down the Boss.
The Kobold Chieftain was still seated on his throne, calm and relaxed as if nothing was wrong. It did not realize that Chu Ge, who was less than 30 meters away from it, had already killed all its subordinates.
Chu Ge took the opportunity to take a rest. Then, he found a rather good angle and shot out the first arrow. The Kobold Chieftain’s body was huge, so it did not have much room to dodge, and the first arrow hit it on its chest. However, the hit did not spill much blood. The arrowhead landed on the Kobold Chieftain’s armor, which let out a piercing scratching sound. With the defense of the chainmail armor, and with the thick layer of fat on the Kobold Chieftain, the monster’s HP had only decreased by less than 4%.
“I’ll be da*ned! The monster is so sturdy!” As he cursed, Chu Ge hurriedly took out another arrow.
However, the Kobold Chieftain already reacted, “Who is the insolent fool who dared to attack the Great King Nargue? I will soon let you have a taste of my prowess!”
Just as the Kobold Chieftain finished, it took up the giant club resting at the side of the throne. Then, it charged aggressively toward Chu Ge.
Chu Ge was, however, was calm and did not panic. He continuously shot arrows at the charging chieftain while retreating backward. The first arrow, the second, then a third. He shot out three arrows consecutively (including the first starting arrow, he had shot out four already). By that time, the Kobold Chieftain had finally reached Chu Ge.
All the arrows shot hit the Kobold Chieftain’s body. However, the damage done was minimal. The Kobold Chieftain was armed with a full-bodied armor, and its flesh was thick. Although it had taken four arrows to its body, the arrows had not been a threat to it.
Just as the Kobold Chieftain was about to reach him, Chu Ge went on a full-force offensive. He aimed at the Kobold Chieftain’s head and shot at it angrily. However, Chu Ge’s archery ability was only at an amateur level. If he were shooting at a body with a large surface, he would be able to hit the target. However, he was aiming at a head, and besides, the Kobold Chieftain was also moving. So, his accuracy had significantly decreased. The arrow shot out had scrapped the skin and flew off. He missed the target.
“Oh, crap!” Chu Ge called out in his mind. He intended to take aim and shoot again, but the Kobold Chieftain had finally reached him. Without a word, the club swung towards him. Chu Ge quickly dodged to the side.
Kaboom!
There was a large crack in the ground where he was previously standing.
“Curses! The fat chieftain’s power is so strong!” Chu Ge felt cold sweat dripping down his back. If he had taken the hit just now, even if he did not die, he would most likely end up paralyzed.
The Kobold Chieftain swung down with its giant club again, and Chu Ge hurriedly dodged again. He was still able to dodge easily. By the time the Kobold Chieftain’s third swing of its club came down, Chu Ge was already able to predict and start dodging beforehand.
“Well, well, well! The Kobold chieftain’s attacks are easy to dodge after all!” Chu Ge thought to himself, the movements of the Boss before its attack are too obvious and telling of its intentions. Furthermore, after three swings of the giant club, the Kobold Chieftain seemed to have briefly lost its strength. It started panting heavily while leaning on the giant club.
Chu Ge took the opportunity to run to a safe distance. When he turned back, the Kobold Chieftain had finally caught its breath.
“Haha! The monster was so useless!” Chu Ge could not help but relax inwardly. Although the Kobold Chieftain had thick flesh, and its strength was not to be trifled with—with one strike of its club, he would probably be dead or paralyzed—but its movements were terribly slow. He was exactly like those sedentary fatties who overate junk food. Even if Chu Ge was wearing a bulky bomb suit, he was still able to easily dodge the Kobold Chieftain’s attacks.
Besides, after three attacks or so, it needed to rest for a while before it could continue fighting. Chu Ge was not sure if the pattern was fixed, so he decided to play it safe and continue testing out the theory while attacking and pulling away at the same time.
Hence, Chu Ge sent another arrow to restart the battle and hit the Boss with a few arrows. Although the damage caused by the arrows was minimal, and only one arrow hit the Boss in the face by sheer luck, which reduced the Boss’ HP by 5%, all the attacks had only reduced the Kobold Chieftain’s HP by 20%.
After he dodged another swing from the giant club, when he saw the Kobold Chieftain slumped on the ground, Chu Ge ran off quickly, putting some distance between the Boss and himself.
As he shot another arrow at the Kobold Chieftain, he cursed silently in his heart, “Curses! The bloody thing was really sturdy and troublesome to beat.” Looking at the arrow-laden Boss, who looked like a hedgehog, for the first time, Chu Ge had the feeling that he was really fighting a Boss.
Although he was still fine and wasn’t injured at all, he already had the feeling that his stamina was going to run out. But it didn’t matter since Chu Ge had already figured out the chieftain’s modus operandi.
As an experienced gamer, he was very astute in figuring out the attacking modus operandi and pattern of the Boss. After the two rounds of hard battle, he had already been tablet o figure out what moves the Kobold Chieftain was going to make before he even made them.
After every three attacks, the Boss would slump on the ground to catch its breath for five seconds before it would catch it. The timing was the same the previous two times. Knowing this pattern would make it easy for Chu Ge to kill the chieftain. After shooting another arrow, just as the Boss was about the charge to where he was, Chu Ge calmly and surely prepared to shun and dodge.
First swing! Second swing! Third swing!
As Chu Ge dodged, he silently counted at the same time.
Just as the Kobold Chieftain slumped on the ground trying to catch its breath after attacking three times, Chu Ge did not run away. On the contrary, he kept the compound bow and switched to the battle-ax. Without a sound, he went around to the back of the Boss. Looking at the heavily panting Boss, he then looked at the battle-ax in his hands. One edge of the battle-ax was an ax, but the other side was a sharp rhombus head. It would be very effective against breaking past armor. Chu Ge set the ax edge aimed at the enormous skull of the Kobold Chieftain and swung down hard.
Splat!
The sharp edge of the ax embedded itself into the skull of the Kobold Chieftain, and immediately, the Kobold Chieftain let out a shrilled and painful cry, and blood flowed profusely from its head. When Chu Ge looked at its HP, it had reduced by at least one-third. It had less than half its HP left.
Chu Ge tugged the battle-ax out hard. Without waiting for the Kobold Chieftain to turn over, he had already retreated to the side.
The Kobold Chieftain bawled from the pain, screaming endlessly. It placed a hand on its head and looked at Chu Ge with a predatory glare. However, when he turned around, Chu Ge had already run off.
However, the Kobold Chieftain didn’t rush into battle. Instead, he suddenly called out, “Come out from wherever you are, you bunch of useless soldiers! Your chieftain needs you!”
However, there were no signs of movement from the soldiers’ room on both sides of the large hall, because the Kobold soldiers had already been killed long before.
