Chapter 37 I’m Not Guilty
“Sorry, I haven’t been back for a long time. There’s a bit of dust on it.”
Gao Tao said as he quickly took out a square box from under the bed.
Hu~
The smell of dust filled the air. Qiao Yuan hastily covered his mouth and nose to avoid it. Gao Tao, on the other hand, was completely fine. He looked to be enjoying it.
Then, he gently opened the outermost grey packaging. Qiao Yuan craned his neck out of curiosity, trying to look at what was inside.
A pink box appeared inside.
“She liked pink,” Gao Tao said with an honest expression.
“That was the first time we met in my previous life. She opened the window and her pink handkerchief fell on my face.”
Inhale
Gao Tao took a deep breath, his mind was filled with the memories of her pink handkerchief. He did so, trying to relive the memories of his past.
Qiao Yuan was speechless.
Gao Tao continued to tear open the packaging wrapped around the box. His movements were very gentle, like a woman putting on make-up. Qiao Yuan stretched his head to take a look again. Within the pink box, black packaging was revealed.
Touching the black packaging, Gao Tao revealed a nostalgic expression. He fell into his memories as he recalled:
“That was the first night we spent together, and the first time…” Gao Tao didn’t finish his words but laughed instead. “Hehe!” Gao Tao scratched his head and grinned while thinking about what had happened that night.
Qiao Yuan was speechless again.
After a short while, he continued to tear open the package. This time, Qiao Yuan didn’t try to take a peek. As expected… It was another packaging but this time around, it appeared to be green.
Repeating the same sequence as before, he continued to explain each time he saw a new packaging
When he saw:
Green: “She liked to drink tea!”
Purple: “One of her good friends was redeemed and left her.”
White: “This was her first time receiving it…”
“????” Qiao Yaun was lost for words but he said nothing, he continued to stare at Gao Yao while he kept unwrapping the mirror.
There wasn’t much left, but the more he unwrapped, the longer Gao Tao fell into his memories, until he unwrapped the last one.
Red!
“She liked red the most because she had a red birthmark on her thigh. She was born with… A red peony flower, which symbolizes love.”
Qiao Yuan finally couldn’t help but interrupt. “Isn’t it just a flower or does it have any meaning?”
Gao Tao, who was lost in his memories, was interrupted. He blinked his eyes and asked in confusion, “How did you know?” Qiao Yuan was speechless. “I was just guessing,” he replied. Qiao Yuan shook his head at Gao Tao’s expression.
Finally… After tearing open all the packaging, Gao Tao took out an ancient mirror with a diameter of about half an arm’s length with deep love.
It was an ancient mirror that was dark gold in colour. There were many patterns carved on the back. It looked quite high-end. Even in ancient times, it was not something that ordinary people could use.
“This is a love token. I gave it to her in my previous life. Her soul lives inside.”
Gao Tao touched the mirror, not hiding the deep love he felt towards her.
Then, he reluctantly handed it to Qiao Yuan. Qiao Yuan subconsciously reached out to take it, but his hand froze in mid-air.
After a moment of silence, Qiao Yuan looked straight at Gao Tao. “I don’t think I should be touching your old… wife, right?” he asked.
III1
Gao Tao was also stunned. A minute later… He retracted his hand, because he felt that what Qiao Yuan said made sense. After all, she was his wife from his previous life. She was an elderly person and was quite conservative.
Gao Tao’s actions further confirmed Qiao Yuan’s suspicions.
He was deeply affected by the spirit, so much so that Qiao Yuan’s simple test had made him feel uncomfortable.
But he could still be saved. In this day and age, as long as he doesn’t die from the spirit, he can still be saved.
It would be nothing more than some aftereffects, but it was a small matter. At least he would still be alive.
Gao Tao carried his wife in his arms and followed Qiao Yuan to the living room.
“Does your wife like gold?”
“Is your wife afraid of light?”
After hearing Qiao Yuan’s words, Gao Tao looked at the Golden sun setting outside and shook his head.
“That’s good enough,” he said.
Qiao Yuan took out a pair of sunglasses from his pocket and placed them on the coffee table.
“Can you call her out? I have something to ask her.”
Gao Tao hesitated, then held the mirror tightly. After repeatedly confirming that Qiao Yuan wouldn’t do anything to his wife, Gao Tao gritted his teeth and agreed. “Xiaofang… Xiaofang…”
Gao Tao said softly.
Very quickly, his expression changed, revealing a look of joy.
He placed the mirror on the coffee table. In order to find a good angle, Gao Tao placed the family portrait under the mirror.
Qiao Yuan looked at this but didn’t say anything
He kept repeating in his heart… One million… One million…
He could still be saved. As long as he doesn’t die, he could still be saved!
Then, he looked at the bronze mirror. There was indeed a woman in it. She did look a little like the one Qiao Yuan had seen in the passenger seat for the first time.
“My name is Qiao Yuan. I have a few questions to ask you. I hope you can cooperate with me and answer them truthfully.”
The resolution of the bronze mirror was very low, so low that the woman’s face in the mirror looked like it was fragmented.
She didn’t speak, like a mute. She didn’t even look at him.
“Very good. Since you didn’t say anything, I’ll take it as you agree.”
The woman was speechless.
“The first question is your background. Are you sure you were Gao Tao’s wife in his previous life?”
As soon as Qiao Yuan finished speaking, Gao Tao interrupted with a smile. “Little Brother, there’s no need to ask this question. She told me a long time ago that she was my lawful wife in my previous life. I’m very sure…”
A happy smile appeared on Gao Tao’s face again.
The woman replied, “No.” The smile on Gao Tao’s face instantly froze, and his face twitched.
…
Qiao Yuan nodded in satisfaction and took a sip of hot water.

It seemed that the spirit was able to tell the situation, so it was easy to talk to her.
Qiao Yuan didn’t like spirits who spoke in riddles or acted cold, because that would cause their bodies to change color.
“Second question: Who are you?”
At that moment, the mirror rippled like water, and a figure appeared in front of the mirror.
The bronze mirror became abnormally clear, and the woman’s appearance in it also changed. A youthful face with a ponytail appeared in his line of sight. Her eyes were clear and bright, like the girl next door.
Although her appearance had changed, Qiao Yuan could still see the shadow of the woman from before.
There was only a difference in age!
One of them was 18 years old, while the other looked 38 years old.
It was the difference between a young girl and a young woman.
The woman in the mirror spoke.
“He was my first love. After I died and became a spirit, I searched for him.”
A familiar voice came. Gao Tao’s body trembled. After seeing the face in the mirror, he suddenly exclaimed, “You are… Ah Zhen!”
“You… Aren’t you dead?”
Gao Tao’s expression changed drastically, he looked like he couldn’t believe it.
Seeing how agitated Gao Tao was, Qiao Yuan poured him a cup of hot water.
“Drink more hot water to calm your nerves!”
Gao Tao looked in the mirror in a panic and refused repeatedly.
Bang!
The cup fell to the ground and broke into pieces. Water splashed everywhere and Gao Tao’s clothes were soaked.
“I’m sorry.”
Qiao Yuan picked up a piece of tissue and prepared to wipe Gao Tao’s face.
Gao Tao quickly waved his hand and refused, then rushed to the bedroom to change his clothes.
A few minutes later.
Coming back to the hall, Gao Tao looked at the figure in the mirror and began to tell its story.
The Ah Zhen in the mirror was his childhood friend. They were all at the same school, but he never knew that Ah Zhen loved him. He had only treated her as a sister.
After dropping out of school, Gao Tao came to the city alone and vowed to make a name for himself. After his unremitting efforts, he finally succeeded in inheriting his father-in-law’s legacy with the help of his deceased wife and carried it forward.
It was only half a year ago that he got the news of Ah Zhen’s accidental death.
Looking at the woman in the mirror, Gao Tao was deep in thought.
“Is this what the officials say about people with the ability to awaken before dying and being born as spirits with memories?”
“Due to unknown corruption, the emotions in the depths of his heart have been distorted, and it had developed into this state.”
Qiao Yuan pondered for a while and asked again,”
“The third question. Did you kill Gao Tao’s family?”
There were two ways to determine whether a spirit should be killed.
First, a hobby.
Second, behaviour.
Her fetishes were too general. For now, Qiao Yuan could only deduce that the spirit liked men. To be precise, she liked Gao Tao, the kind that would never be separated.
At the moment, it was still normal, at least compared to Li Xiaoling and the overseer.
Then, from its behaviour, what did it do?
First of all, it killed people. Gao Tao had said that it had killed its competitors.
So, based on this, it was clear that spirits were not easy to deal with.
Qiao Yuan had asked this question to help Gao Tao recover as soon as possible.
If Gao Tao insisted that Qiao Yuan had killed the spirit that had loved him, then Qiao Yuan would be in trouble.
On the other hand, if he thought that Qiao Yuan had killed a spirit that committed all sorts of evil, then he might be able to get out of this twisted relationship by doing so. It was also possible for him to give Qiao Yuan a tip.
Qiao Yuan believed that Gao Tao was a man of principle and that he would do what he said.
One always has to keep their promises in life!
He had said that he wanted one million yuan to solve the problem, so he had to do it well. Moreover, this was his first business deal, so he had to make a name for himself.
“I’m not!”
The eyes of the woman in the mirror flickered as she gave the answer.
Gao Tao, whose body was tense, heaved a sigh of relief. Deep in his heart, he was really afraid that such a thing would happen. One was his childhood sweetheart, and the other was his family. It was a difficult choice.
“No… You’re lying!”
Qiao Yuan chided, his eyes sharp as he looked at the spirit in the mirror.
Spirits could only do this once or countless times, and this was something they exchanged their blood for. Just like humans, it was unlikely that they would quit.
Spirits were different from humans. They would only become worse. Qiao Yuan didn’t deny that there were saint-like spirits who knew how to correct their mistakes, but how many of them could there be?
The woman in the mirror was silent. She looked at Qiao Yuan, her face as pale as paper.
“Once the suspicion is formed, the crime is established.” Ah Zhen said while looking at him.
Qiao Yuan was stunned. This spirit was quite interesting to be able to say something like that.
The person in front of him was a college student!
