“Wake up, my little fish”

“Don’t leave me, mother can’t live without you, take me with you.”

Ye Yu was dizzy. She heard the sobs of a woman. The voice was familiar, as familiar as her mother’s voice. But it couldn’t be, isn’t her mother dead?

Ye Yu’s father is a policeman- an anti-narcotic officer. The kind whose identity is supposed to be concealed, lest the family be targeted. And yet, to no avail, one day, she and her mother were kidnapped when her mother was picking her up from school.

Ye Yu was young and couldn’t remember what exactly happened, but she remembered the large tracts of blood flowing from her mother’s body. The red color that dyed her eyes, and the pervasive smell of rust that wrapped the little Ye Yu like a blanket.

After the incident, she became haemophobic and was prone to go into shock when she saw blood.

And so she studied biomedicine. Her relatives and friends couldn’t understand it, “you faint at the sight of blood and yet, you still want to be a doctor?”

Ye Yu just smiled

She didn’t want to tell them that she studied biomedicine for pharmaceutical purposes, and she had no interest in being an angel in white, saving people in the operating room.

At the age of 22, she went to study abroad, graduated early and returned to her own country, and under everyone’s disbelief, she went to study Chinese medicine, more precisely, Chinese herbal medicine.

She made a lot of special medicines, made a lot of money, and was considered a young and promising woman in her circle. It seemed that everything was going for the better, until her father died.

It seemed that Ye Yu’s sky fell over. Everything she remembers after that was chaotic.

Her father’s calm hand and his thoughtful visage was stained with blood

Her last memory seemed to be of a big explosion. the fire that started with the explosion completely burned her out.

Ye Yu didn’t expect that the day she opened her eyes, she would hear her mother’s cry.

She remembers from her childhood- her mother likes to cry.

When the family of three weren’t separated,

When the hot water fell on her hands, her mother would cry.

When she would try to cook and set the kitchen on fire, her mother would cry.

When her father came back injured, her mother would cry…

And her father, such a cold person, under the offensive of her mother’s tears, can only comfort her, while he himself is at a loss.

So later, When only the two of us were left, her father would always say to her, “Me and you are the knife, and your mother is our scabbard.”

“The scabbard is gone, and the sword will be destroyed. so safekeep the scabbard.”

Ye Yu also became a qualified knife. but Unfortunately it was too late , the scabbard was gone. She never thought that she would hear this familiar cry again.

Ye Yu struggled to open her eyes, and in a trance, she saw a familiar face. Young and bright, the same face as her mother, clad in ancient clothes
