'You came here to feed her?' Karizen had a look of disgust on his face at the plan that Neo had come up with.
Sadly, this look, none of them had the opportunity of observing as the only two present here had other matters on their mind.
Neo stared at the child seated on the ground with her runny nose and her swollen eyes, an aftermath of her excessive weeping.
Similarly, Hilda too was staring but not at the man hidden under the robes but at the item before her.
A hand with long and sleek fingers held a loaf of bread whose fragrance wafted into her nose.
She had been surviving on water and just a few crumbs of bread between towns and could only purchase a single loaf, struggling to make it last for as long as it could.
Therefore, seeing an entire loaf being handed over to her by the generous stranger, Hilda could not help but let greed overcome her heart.
Extending her hand, she accepted the loaf from his hand before holding it as though it was something precious.
Her eyes brimmed with tears as she lowered her head and gazed at the baked item.
"Thank you, Mister." She mumbled in a hoarse and cracking voice as a lump formed in her throat.
Karizen frowned when he saw how grateful she seemed for receiving just a simple loaf that was something everyone ate on a daily basis.
He was still ignorant of what exactly had caused Neo to enter this world and get involved with matters that did not concern him.
However, now his curiosity had been piqued and he made a mental note to look into the intricacies of this world.
Having come to that conclusion, Karizen turned his attention back to the God and the child.
Hilda's head was still lowered as she took slow bites of the bread in her hands.
Neo did not utter a word but under his hood, there was a jubilant smile that had formed on his lips.
"Eat up." He whispered after a while but the child needed no encouragement as she was already halfway through the loaf.
At first, Karizen was wondering what Neo was trying to accomplish here but soon his eyes widened in surprise.
This was because the child on the ground was eating in a daze.
Earlier he had thought that the child was moved enough by this generous gesture that she was cherishing every bite of the meal she received.
However, his speculation was proven wrong now.
His crimson eyes leered at the child, particularly her heart which at this moment was beating at a pace that wasn't humanly possible.
"What did you feed her?" He questioned as his head whiplashed towards the God who was now beside him.
Neo did not bother to turn and look in his direction but he was kind enough to answer him.
"Quiet down. There's nothing wrong with the bread." He revealed in an indifferent tone.
He had understood why Karizen had interrogated him just now.
Thus he disclosed that the bread wasn't poisoned which was exactly what the Great Demon Lord had assumed.
Hilda's heart was beating rapidly and it was almost as though it would jump out of her chest at any moment.
Karizen did not know what the God of wisdom had added in the bread he fed her but he knew that there was something wrong with the child.
However, no matter how he looked at it, the child did not display any signs of discomfort or pain that he had expected from her.
This assured him that she wasn't hurt by the bread but it did not change the fact that there was something wrong with her.
His curiosity and surprisingly, even anxiety were high to see what happened next.
With Karizen fretting for her well-being and Neo watching over her every expression, Hilda finished the loaf and even licked the crumbs off her fingers.
The earlier sparkling eyes with which she had gazed at the bread were far gone and now she sat there with a listless look on her face.
The two immortal beings could sense a disturbance inside her heart which was now heading towards her brain.
"Birdy will gobble you up if you do something stupid you a child of his world." Karizen leaned closer to Neo's ear and whispered what was on his mind.
It was common knowledge that the two Gods who once were the closest of friends had now ended up as enemies.
One was fire and the other was ice, they no longer could stay in each others' presence without souring their moods.
Though Karizen knew that it was only Asmodeus who felt that way but Neo was a whole other matter.
However, now was not the time to get into the details of what had taken place in the past.
Right now, they needed to make sure that nothing happened to this child lest the God of this world realized that there were intruders who were messing with what he had created.
Asmodeus would not be able to sense their presence but he would know that there was something amiss in his world.
Therefore, it was imperative to ensure that they did not leave any clues that could lead the Bird God to them.
Neo sneered when he heard the whisper and pushed Karizen's face far away.
The Demon Lord wasn't offended by his behavior but rather smirked when he saw how guarded Neo was.
As much as he wished to tease this God, there were things that needed their attention.
Therefore, Karizen chose to put his selfish desire aside and turned back to the child.
Thus he noticed that while he was attempting to tease Neo, the child had awoken from her daze.
With doubtful eyes, Karizen leered at the child to check her condition.
The disturbance reaching her mind had disappeared without a trace of it ever existing.
Whatever Neo had done to her, he had made sure to cover his tracks.
Even Karizen, someone who was much more powerful than Neo, was unable to find the abnormality that had been seen in the child just earlier.
Therefore, he was sure that the Bird God would also not succeed even if he tried his hardest.
While he was amazed at how much thought and effort Neo had put in to cover his tracks, he still did not understand what he was up to.
He had not yet grasped the purpose of the disturbance and now he never would as it had vanished completely.
"Use it wisely, Child." He heard Neo whispering to the child before him.
Hilda raised her head, finally gaining clarity to her clouded eyes which had been in a daze until now.
Hearing these words, the child's eyes flashed with determination as she gave him a firm nod.
Neo smiled at this sight but she was unable to see it due to his hood.
Karizen sulked at being left out but his curiosity was bound to be quenched soon enough.
"Asmo, you gave one child an unfair advantage so it is only fair that I do the same to this one," Neo whispered while looking at the sky.
The Great Demon Lord was pouting because he was being ignored once again.
However, his expressions shifted in the next second as he gripped Neo's shoulder.
Feeling the pressure on his shoulder, Neo frowned and glanced at the man on his side.
"We need to leave," Karizen uttered in a serious tone which was unlike anything that Neo had seen from the moment they had met today.
The Demon Lord that Neo knew was always playful and mischievous but right now, he could find no trace of his usual light-hearted behavior.
Not bothering about what this God was thinking, Karizen glanced at the child who was alternating her gaze between them.
He looked into Hilda's eyes, maintaining eye contact with her for just a second.
However, even that much was enough for him to accomplish his goal.
The child's eyes grew heavy and even when she wished to continue gazing at the handsome stranger, her body felt weak as she slid sideways.
In no time, they heard soft snores coming from her which proved that she was lost in the land of dreams already.
Neo frowned as he was not yet revealed with what he wished to say to the child and diverted his furious gaze towards the culprit.
"We don't have time!" Karizen urged and in the next second, Neo felt his body beginning to disappear against his will.
"Do your best, Child," Neo whispered one last command before the two immortals were gone for good.
