Chapter 764 - An Early Return

As promised, Rutherford did not spend too much time at the Carter family tea party.

Minister Carter was unhappy to see the child leave ahead of the others but taking a look at her dull spirits, he did not insist on them staying for much longer.

"Do you want to share what has gotten you so troubled?" Raylene caressed her daughter's cheek on their trip back home.

Yvonne looked up, into the worried eyes of her mother before shaking her head.

"Just had a strange dream." She muttered in response before leaning against the soft and warm palm that had been caressing her.

There was no way that she could reveal her true thoughts and hence could only make up a fabricated story about what was on her mind.

In a way, this was true as the dream was strange and had elicited strange emotions from her as well.

The parents glanced at each other, recalling one other strange dream she had in the past.

When she had come banging on their door late one night, she had said something similar, revealing that she had a strange dream and demanded to be taken to the Tanner estate.

The Earl had escorted her there and the Countess had followed later on.

Thinking of the odd request she had made at that time, there were worried expressions now on their faces.

After all, Yvonne's strange dream was about a plague and the death of a few close acquaintances which, in a way, she had helped them avoid.

Therefore, they could not suppress the unnerving feeling upon hearing that she had another such dream.

'No wonder she was silent all along.' The father realized that she wasn't mad at them but was troubled by the dream she had seen.

"Is it a bad dream?" He inquired as his body had an instinctual feeling that he should be wary of what she was about to reveal.

Yvonne pondered for a moment, recalling the interactions between the two best friends in the script before shaking her head.

The Earl was about to sigh that it was not a bad dream but hearing what she said next caused him to halt in his ways.

"I do not know…" She mumbled her reply as the carriages slowed down.

They had reached their home so Rutherford carried her in his arms then helped his wife get off their transportation.

"Let her rest." He instructed Mrs. Jacinth who was standing outside with the two butlers and a few more maids to greet them.

The old maid was quick to grasp the situation as she had noticed something odd with the young miss ever since she had woken up today.

Roselie and Jax followed the older maid who was carrying the child while the couple headed towards their room.

The Valente twins were waiting for Yvonne's return as they had gotten bored, seeing that Howard was still locked in his room.

They had planned to play with their cousin but when they saw her dull appearance, they changed their minds and chose not to disturb her.

___

Inside her room, Yvonne was helped to get changed and following the Master's instructions, the child was laid on the bed.

"Miss, you have been weary ever since you woke up so please rest some more." The younger maid suggested and the older one agreed with her words.

The two maids then stepped out before she could utter another word which was how she had ended up alone in her room as soon as she returned to the St. Claire mansion.

Since her mind was troubled with the dream she had, Yvonne decided that she should accept their suggestion and nap for a little while longer.

She had been spending more time working on the assignments given by her tutor every day which cut short her leisure time.

She was also busy preparing certain matters for CLOVER's expansion which had caused her to feel exhausted in just a few days.

The dream she saw was the last straw that broke the dam of fatigue building up in her little body.

Thus in no time, her exhausted body and overworked mind had fallen into a state of repose.

Demon was standing in the garden beneath her window, worried about her state but when he sensed her steady breathing, he too calmed down and left after staying around for a few more minutes.

___

When the child woke up, the sky was already dark.

A few minutes later, it was Jax who knocked on the door and entered with a tray after receiving her permission.

"Earl thought that you would like to eat in your room." He explained the purpose of the tray as he set it on the bed next to her.

Yvonne did not express her distaste as she was given some privacy to gather her thoughts.

The butler handed her a glass of water before standing at the side, doing what any butler was expected to do.

The child was already used to this by now so she did not mind his presence and ate her fill.

She had not been able to enjoy the food served at the tea party so her grumbling stomach was grateful for this meal.

"Boss, how was the party at the Carter estate?" Jax inquired, hoping to gain some important information from her regarding the kind of nobles who were present there.

Yvonne had ordered him to be aware of the ongoings in noble society so she could only finish eating before revealing what had taken place at the Carter tea party.

Seeing that she did not reject him, Jax waited patiently for her to be done.

"Ahem… So when we first arrived…" The child began and the butler paid close attention to what was being said.

___

The appearance of the St. Claire's family brought whispers and murmurs among the guests who had already arrived.

Except for the Jorbin family who wasn't in the Capital at this moment, the rest of the guests were present.

While a few of the children were missing, the adults had made it a point to gather here.

Taylor and Howard were absent for obvious reasons and so were a few others.

"I suppose Miss Cecily Yona was also absent," Jax smirked while thinking of something he had heard.

By now, this young butler had formed quite an excellent connection with the servants in their mansion.

"Yes, but was that a mere deduction or…?" Yvonne raised her brow at the young man.

"A servant saw that young miss in the Commercial District, purchasing new clothes." He revealed the information he had obtained while she was away.

Since Cecily did not like Klay Carter, the son of the hosts, she chose to skip the party altogether and instead was busy shopping for new clothes.

"She must be preparing for the Kiron tea party," Yvonne muttered to which, Jax confirmed with a nod.

The servant was running an errand for the Earl and had heard something of that sort before he left the Commercial District.

The child shook her head in response then returned to the topic at hand.

Being both a Minister and the previous Marquess, Syrac Carter still held a high position in their society.

Everyone spoke to him respectfully and seeing that he seemed to have a favorable opinion on the King's decisions made them unable to retort even if they did not think in the same manner.

This time, the King's attitude towards the suggestions given by a girl was what had gained more attention than the girl herself which allowed her to remain in the shadows during that party.

"Of course, there was also Earl Blaise who tried to mock Papa." She rubbed the space between her brows while thinking of the man who always tried to suppress Rutherford.

However, the Blaise family business was declining over time ever since CLOVER had emerged, creating the perfect weakness that Earl St. Claire targeted in retaliation to Earl Blaise's haughty attitude.

With a darkened face, the other Earl declared that he would soon regain everything that he had lost due to CLOVER in no time.

However, Rutherford, who was aware of CLOVER's upcoming expansion into the noble market, did not bother to converse with him any longer.

He had better things to do and so, hurried off in another direction after discovering his beloved wife chatting with a certain young man.

Recalling the fierce glare her father had aimed at that man made Yvonne shake her head at his jealous ways.
