Book 2: Chapter 4 (1/8)

Kain thought to himself, “I saw Etgar and another level 50 Blood Mages used [Vampire Lord Transmutation] and it seems to be over-power already. I wonder how strong [Vampire Emperor Transmutation] is going to be. [Demon Anatomy V] was my goal of achievement in Black Magic. But [Devil Anatomy] sounds enormously stronger. Does that mean that I can have the power of a Devil? And [Necromancy], I don't know what it is but Noe Clerico sure had received it. As a Blood Mage, I will undoubtedly have to fight with the Mages Council in the future. Knowing your opponents will better your chance of defeating them. I should ask this little girl to explain to me more about [Necromancy].”

Iris saw Kain’s facial expression and knew what he wanted to ask her, she said, “I won’t manifest or explain anything further. Do you wish to start now? Remember, you can not leave the Dungeon until all fifteen tiers are cleared. If you die, no one will revive you.”

“I am ready.”

Kain was then immediately transported to another realm. He looked around and saw he was standing on a peaceful grass field. A city could be seen approximately three thousand feet away. Children were playing with each other. Merchants were selling items and the buyers appeared to be negotiating with the price.

Kain said, “Such a peaceful scene.”

Iris shook her head and said, “The demons are roaming ninety-nine percent in this realm and this is the last human city that managed to survive. The population in this city is estimated to be about five million. Three hours from now, the demon hordes of ten million will swarm into this city to kill everyone. Your quest is to protect the humans here to help them drive back the demons.”

“Playing hero huh? I can do that.”

“Yes, but make sure that no one dies or you will fail this quest.”

“What? How do you expect me to do that?”

“I don’t know. You can figure it out. That is why you should have participated with a group of raiders.”

“Alright, I will figure something out.”

“Oh, one more thing.”

“What now?”

“There is no magic caster in this realm. Even the demons can’t use magic so you will have the advantage.”

“Ah, that is good news for me then.”

Iris disappeared after giving the quest to Kain leaving him scratching his head on thinking about how to handle it. “Ten million demons, and I can’t let any human die. That means the human here can’t assist me in any way. I will have to fight with ten million demons all by myself.”

Kain walked toward the gate and everyone stopped what they were doing to observe him. “Hmm? Is there something on my face?” Kain asked.

An elderly woman asked, “Young man, I have never seen you before. Which family are you from?”

“I’m not from here.”

“I knew it! Demon! A demon taking the form of a human! Run!” The elderly woman screamed while throwing some tomatoes she was carrying toward Kain.

Not just her, all the people and children who were staying outside the city gate immediately rushed inside leaving all of their personal belongings outside. After the gate was closed, Kain could see at least ten thousand archers lined up in the wall and started shooting arrows toward him. Kain casted [Conjure Ice Gargoyle] and commanded the Gargoyle to cast [Ice Barrier] spells on him and itself to block the arrows. Approximately five minutes later, the archers stopped shooting arrows after seeing how it couldn’t penetrate through the Ice Barriers.

One of the archers appeared to be a leader, he asked out loud, “Demon, why are you here by yourself? Where are the other demons?”

Kain scratched his head as he said, “I am not a demon. I am a hero. And I am here to save you, pity idiots!”

“Hero?”

“Ten million demons are coming to attack this city. I am here to make sure none of you idiots will die. So please do me a favor. Stay inside the city and don’t come out until I’m done fighting with the demons. Please don’t attack any demon and just run for your lives if they can come inside the city, okay?”

“What nonsense are you speaking? I only see you here. There is no other demon.”

“In about three hours or so, you will see.”

Kain walked around and found some raw boneless ribeye beef steaks in the meat shop that was abandoned by the owner when he/she ran away. Kain casted [Conjure Fire Demon] spells twice and commanded them to cook the meat for him to eat.

“Demons! He just called out two demons!” One of the archers screamed out loud.

“Relax dude. This is my conjured creature.” Kain explained but none of them understand what is a conjured creature since no one in this realm knows anything about magic casting. All the archers started shooting arrows toward them again and the Ice Gargoyle had to casted [Ice Barrier] on Kain, the Fire Demons, and itself. Kain continued to ignore the archers that were shooting arrows at him and starting to enjoy his lunch.

“What a bunch of idiots… I am a hero, not a villain. I wished I could kill all of you for pissing me off.” Kain complained while eating the beefsteak. He then yelled at the Fire Demons, “Hey! I told you I wanted medium-well, not well done. You have overcooked it. Remember, I wanted the beefsteak to be medium-well.”

“Hmm? They have stopped shooting arrows.” Kain wondered why they had stopped. But when he heard loud noises coming from the other side, Kain turned toward to look and saw an army of demons starting to approach.

“Iris told me they will come in three hours. But it hasn't been thirty minutes yet. Did she lie to me or the time here is different? Ah, screw it. I should focus on fighting with those demons first. Ten million demons huh.” Kain activated [Soul Bridge] and [Second Soul] to call upon Finwe and his Second Soul for help.

Kain asked, “Finwe, can you take care of the flying demons? Make sure none of them can fly inside the city.” Finwe nodded to acknowledge Kain’s request. Kain and his Second Soul are one so he doesn’t need to give any instruction. His Second Soul will have to kill as many as he can while Kain and his conjured creatures defend the city gate.

“Even when those demons can’t use magic, low-tier demons are equally strong compared to seventh-tier warriors. Ten million seventh-tier warriors versus me. My chance of winning is zero.” Kain thought to himself as he prepared to fail this quest. But Kain isn’t the type that will give up before he tries. There is nothing impossible to achieve. Perhaps Kain can pull some kind of miracle like scaring off the demons to withdraw without killing all ten million of them.
