Chapter 139 - What a Filial Child

Wenqian was happy beyond words. So many new things happened to her that day that she thanked God a zillion times. She decided to go to the temple to offer prayers to the deities. She had lost hope that she would ever meet Vladimir in her life. But today he had suddenly showed up on her doorstep. She was so stupefied to see him. He had aged but he looked as handsome as ever. When she saw him, she cried. Vladimir held her hands but did not touch her any further as he knew that she did not belong to him anymore.

More than her, he was eager to meet Wu Lina. Wenqian's first question to him was, "How did you know about Wu Lina?"

"Wenqian, I have been banned from entering some countries including China, but I had kept my sources updated about you. As soon as I came to know about you, I came running even if that meant that I had to bribe so many officials."

"But why are you banned, Vladimir?" asked Wenqian, as puzzled as ever.

He looked at her and remembered how he had killed the policeman who was responsible for their separation and his rise as an underworld mafia. He smiled at her and shook his head. "I have my reasons, Wenqian. I want to meet Wu Lina. I have heard that you gave birth to her after returning to the country. Thank you, Wenqian, for taking so much trouble."

It was Wenqian's chance to remember all the hardsh.i.p.s she had gone through after she was deported to China.

"Wu Lina's father had thrown her out when she finished her school because she wanted to continue to study."

This statement made Vladimir furious. He clenched his fists and had a murderous thought of wringing Wu Yi-Zheng's neck. His gaze became as dark as his temper. He asked, "So where is my child? Is she lost in the world all over again?"

"No, Vladimir. She is a strong girl just like you -- very determined and very bright. She graduated as a nurse but I don't know where is she now as she has never contacted us after she left home."

"So how do you know she is a nurse?" he asked, worried as hell about his daughter.

"I assumed that must have finished her graduation," said Wenqian, feeling sad about the fact that she was unable to even take care of Wu Lina. "I am sorry, Vladimir," she said while crying uncontrollably.

Vladimir felt helpless. The dreams he had woven when he would meet his daughter were shattered like thousands of stars in the sky. He stood up, circled the sofa and went inside to hide his tears that had welled his eyes. He had come so far to meet his child and again he was on a blind trail…

Just as he was about to cry, he heard a loud knock on the door. He hid himself in the room and waited for Wenqian to open the door.

When he heard "Wu Lina, my child! How are you?", he felt a surge of excitement running through his body. A moment ago he was in state of wretchedness and now he was filled with joy. When he entered the living room, he saw a young girl sitting on the sofa with Wenqian. He approached her slowly, not able to believe his luck. Was he daydreaming? But the voices were real and so was that girl. He came and stood behind her…

Yang Xinyu had to have lunch along with Wu Lina and Wenqian. The dishes were so tasty that he had to admit, "Wu Lina, had your mother been any younger, I would have married her!"

Everyone on the table roared with laughter. "Auntie, please teach your cooking skills to Wu Lina. She is very bad and I have to employ a housekeeper for cooking."

Wenqian was aghast. "Wu Lina, you should know how to cook nicely. How can you be a good wife unless you know how to cook nicely? What will your children eat?" She scolded her lightly. "Don't worry, Yang Xinyu. I will teach her," she said, offering him more beef.

After lunch, both Wu Lina and Yang Xinyu took their leave. "Mother, don't forget to come for the engagement. I will wait for you," Wu Lina said with an earnest smile.

"I will send a car for you, Auntie. You won't be able to come on your own. The venue is far from the main city," said Yang Xinyu.

"Oh, what a filial child. Your parents must be so proud of you," said Wenqian, happy for her daughter.

Wu Lina cringed a bit but she maintained a smile on her face.

Once they were in the car, Yang Xinyu couldn't hold himself and pulled her on his l.a.p. He took her face in his large hands and kissed her before burying his head in the crook of her neck. "What happened, Xinyu?" she asked softly.

He didn't answer and hugged her tighter. They stayed like that until they reached home.

The person who was most relaxed at the moment was Lu Shiming. The miss had come home without any harm.

Yang Xinyu and Wu Lina took the elevator to the penthouse while Lu Shiming went to check the security footage.

Only two days were left for the engagement and a week for the wedding. Everyone was busy preparing for the engagement.

A strange rumor started making rounds – Wu Lina may not come for the engagement with the CEO Yang. Oblivious to this rumor, the couple was merrily having fun time.

At Moonlight Residences, in a dark room, Ying Yue was sitting quietly on a chaise chair, watching the television and smoking. Only the light from the television was lighting the room. The slap that she had received from Wu Lina was enough to act as a catalyst to her jealousy. 'How dare she insult me? I will create the most horrific of the situations for her. I warned her not to come for engagement, yet she dared to slap me. She doesn't know that she has disturbed a beehive. She will have to pay for this.'
