Chapter 40:Please Don’t Leave Me

Wu Lina started bringing her laptop to the room everyday. Yang Xinyu liked the fact that she dedicated herself into studying to create a better future. Moreover, the better she studied, the better marks she would obtain smoothening her way into the Yang Corporation. He wanted to see her soar and be proud of her.

One day after having their lunch he didn't disturb her until four in the evening. He read his office documents and when he became tired he lied down. He wondered how different Wu Lina was from Ying Yue. While Wu Lina valued every opportunity that came her way, Ying Yue was too intoxicated with her success. Her success made her supercilious. Her shallowness had manifested in her character. Yang XInyu thought that had he not met Wu Lina he wouldn't have been able to see through Ying Yue's character. Wu Lina made him realize how valuable one's life was to throw it away for someone as worthless as Ying Yue. Thinking about Ying Yue filled him with disgust. He tried to shrug off her thoughts from his mind and looked at Wu Lina respecting her even more.

Yang Xinyu eventually slept feeling a little anxious. His nightmares returned. He dreamt of Ying Yue chasing him and he was holding a baby in his hand. She wanted to snatch that baby from him. He called out for help and the only name that he remembered was that of Wu Lina. Stop her Wu Lina…!

He woke up shuddering. His vision became unfocused and he was sweating. He mouth was slacking and his throat went dry.

All he could remember was that Wu Lina was holding him in her embrace trying to calm him. He leaned against her and felt reassured. He dozed off…

He woke up again that night perturbed. He saw Wu Lina sleeping on the sofa in his room. Without thinking much he removed his quilt, went to her, picked her up carefully and made her lie on his bed. Then he climbed the bed from the other side and slept next to her. He didn't touch her but faced her, smelled her fragrance and closed his eyes. His nightmares seemed to evaporate and it was a beautiful and a peaceful night.

He woke up next morning sensing Wu Lina's confusion and flutter.

"How did I come there? I am sorry Yang Xinyu! I had slept on that sofa. I don't sleepwalk! I mean, I... I… am sorry!" She was gabbling.

He smiled and turned to the other side to sleep again.

***

Yang Xinyu returned from Tokyo on Saturday evening. Instead of going to the lounge in the office building, he asked the driver to take him to Wu Lina's home. Yang Xinyu couldn't wait to see her.

Wu Lina opened the door and was shocked to see Yang Xinyu bag and baggage at her door. Is he planning to move in with her?

Then she saw the airline tags on his luggage and deduced that he had directly come from the airport to her place!

Without waiting for her to welcome him, he barged in. Wu Lina shook her head and closed the door and went to prepare some tea for him.

He rolled his luggage to the corner, sauntered to the kitchen and gave her a back hug. "Love you..." he spoke softly in her ears. He closed his eyes and snuggled his face in the crook of her neck smelling her, savoring her, cherishing her… He stroked her long black hair pulling her into his chest. With her in his embrace the world stopped still on its axis. The time stopped… there was no wind, no day, no time… his mind was at peace. Her love was pure, unselfish, undemanding and free. He knew that… he also knew that she was holding it back…

She didn't utter a word and continued to prepare tea for him. She poured the tea in the cup while he was still hugging her. She went to her small dining table to keep the cup and he went with her still hugging her.

"I missed you," he said in her ears, kissing them.

Then he sat on the chair making Wu Lina sit on his lap. His arms were snaked around her. He held her face with one hand and kissed her lightly on her lips and said, "Lina, what has gone wrong with our relationship?... Do you love someone else?... Do you hate me now?..."

Wu Lina raised her eyes to look at his beautiful face. She could feel his heavy heart, his pleas of sorrow and dejection. She couldn't help feeling sorry towards him. She felt her body press in his, soft and warm. Yang Xinyu had waited for her. She had prayed for this love and she inwardly thanked God as Yang Xinyu hugged her tighter in his embrace. She didn't want to leave, all her mental and physical pain was dissipating. She wanted to stay in his arms forever, away from all the harmful people of the world. The arms that held her were strong and protective.

Her heart ached and her hand reached his face involuntarily.

This was the man who she had loved senselessly, soulfully and perhaps to the fullest… he had bewitched her body and soul. No one else could ever take his place. The world around her melted away as he squeezed her.

"Why do you keep coming back to me?" she asked. "I have been so rude and indifferent to you. I'm sorry. I have f***ed up everything." she added tears forming in her eyes.

"It's okay."

She shook her head and said, "No, it's not okay. I have messed our relationship and I can't even go back Yang Xinyu."

"I care about you Wu Lina. Nothing has changed between us. Trust me. I can wait for you till the world comes to an end. I could never imagine myself waking up and not seeing you… you define me… you complete me… I don't want to live without you…" said Yang Xinyu and closed his eyes wondering if Wu Lina was trying to end their relationship and whether he would possibly ever see her again. An unpleasantness gripped his heart. He clutched her tighter. "Please don't leave me." The words hardly managed to break out as his emotions choked his voice. He rested his chin on the top of her head. "Please, please don't leave me… I love you..."
